Hedman, Vas, Even someone like McDonagh. We don't have the horses they do.
We don’t even have their work ethic.
Let’s start with that before jumping into lacking talents. I really don’t see how Vas could have save us the last few games as the players just seemed lost. It is no longer can they start on time but more will they even show up tonight?

I think Marner was an ok kid until he was way overhyped. This is good for him and his family (think his dad is most to blame). I am not surprised, I WAS surprised with his production for some time.... considering his speed, shot ability and puck handling really are all incredbily average, and so his effort/grit level. attributed his incredible stats to always playing with very very good players since junior. He has looked overmatched in most of the playoff games, mostly because his lack of speed and a quick shot is severely exposed.

I can't wait until he is moved. Feel for the kid, but his contract does not match his ability and he certainly is no leader.

He is 7-8 million if he were on almost any other team but the leafs.

The level of failure of TML is up there in sports history. And this year looks like another page in that book

Leafs are up there in the hockey world for sure when it comes to being a laughing stock, but just for the record there are plenty of pro sports teams with longer droughts, Sacramento Kings at 70 years, Atlanta Hawks 63 years, I also know the Rangers and Indians have super long ones in the MLB.

Not trying to defend these losers btw.

Muzzin looks like he's hit a wall as well. Rielly looks disinterested. Sandin is butter soft. The defense is a massive problem and I don't trust the current brain trust to build a proper D core.

Considering the popularity of the team I think the Leafs take that cake

i mean babs didnt coach them correctly, now keefe isnt either? at a certain point it becomes more about the student than the material you know?
Babs was coaching them correctly. Dubas provided zero goaltending depth and used ONE bad skid to get his buddy Keefe in the door

Under Babcock we challenged legit cup contenders in the playoffs. Now we lose to bottom feeding teams

Well some teams never even won the Cup and the Kraken never made the playoffs, lol.
For real, it is not about history but more to do with basics. The players with the exception of a few of them really seemed disinterested and just want to get their shift over with.

In terms of popularity and historical significance ya they take the cake. I’d say a close comparable would be the NY Knicks, biggest market in their country, referred to as the Mecca of basketball also, so a lot of similarities, and their drought currently sits at 49 years. Also have like 1 playoff series win in 20 years.

Although they actually look like they’ll win some rounds sooner than later.

Well that's what makes it even worse...Dubas looks at the numbers(the fact Ritchie scored something like 15 goals)...He sees that Ritchie is a big body and can hit people..well there you go...Hyman replacement. Doesn't matter that he has no skating ability like Hyman, work ethic like Hyman, PK ability, etc...To Dubas, eye test does not matter and he's most likely one of those that believes you can just make anyone into a hard worker...Just pay them money and work ethic will come...That's a mistake..a big one..
...
Yup. That what loads of Boston etc. fans were saying after trade.
He will have a hot streak though, but other that that. Not mutch.

I mentioned that in the summer, the last time Leafs started the season without Hyman, Babs got canned.
Not saying Hyman is the glue guy but he is important.

Most of the doubters even assumed the top guys would light it up but ultimately come up short because of lack of depth. /QUOTE]

That is certainly not the case with all of us doubters. I clearly stated from the outset that the pretty boys stole Dubas' shorts. The Nylander contract was the start of it but lets talk about talent. First, signing Tavares was plain stupid. He does not fit into Dubas' vision and never has. Nylander skates nice and has a good shot but hasn't had to have his uniform cleaned since he got here, bails out and always has. But, he has all the skills that makes Dubas giddy. Marner is a Junior star. Think he would go well at Double Rink in North Toronto but certainly not in the NHL. Another fancy dan that doesn't want to get down and dirty. Dubas loves that. Matthews is the biggest puzzle. He has a shot and nothing else. May even look good in the regular season but remember, he was a star in Switerland, Switzerland! He played on the same line as my grandmother in the Swiss All-Star game. Don't forget this highly touted $11 million man lost in 4 straight games in the Swiss quarterfinals. The team they lost to the worst qualifyer for the playoffs, Bern who finished 8th during the regular season. Sound familiar? Dubas analytics should have sniffed that one out. All in all from day one I predicted that Dubas hire would turn out to be the worst hire in Maple Leaf history. And that is saying something.

Dubas obviously believed that someone with decent numbers(like Ritchie) and the fact he's a bigger body, would easily replace Hyman(similar with other shitty players in this lineup)..This is the shit that really pisses me off...Yes, it's easier to replace those bigger, hard working types...That doesn't mean it's so easy nor does it mean every single hard working player brings the same type of game(for example, you can work hard and barely ever have the puck...well, what good is that? I'm also talking about Simmonds and few others on the team...work ethic with very little of anything else...

Dubas ruined the team and there is still time to do even more damage...In any other league, you'd be fired so easily for making a very good lineup so bad..Unreal...

Don't worry...Dubas is not done yet...Rielly is going to walk for nothing, just like Hyman...so pissed!

Suppose we’ll see where they’re at come US Thanksgiving but it really feels like it’s the death knells of the current iteration of this team. Marner is broken, age seems to be catching up to Tavares and Muzzin, team can’t defend, can’t score, has no cap space available to address any of the litany of issues plaguing them, and the Leafs are seriously lacking in prospect and draft capital as well.

Basically the waiting game now. Dubas and Keefe et all will be fired, their dynamic duo an abysmal failure at the NHL level, a lot of it their own fault though outside forces helped doom this team (f***ing COVID freezing the cap). Shanahan will have to answer for handing the keys to the most promising core this franchise has seen in decades to an inexperienced GM and may perhaps be fired as well.

Then it’s a re-tool, can only see Matthews and Nylander surviving as current core players. Rielly will be dealt or walk, Marner too and Tavares if you can find a taker for his contract. What a bummer.

Carolina was playing to get their goalie a win against his former team and start the season 5-0.
They played hard and worked for it.

If this was the Leafs, they would have hung him 6-1.

And that is the difference in team build.

It's sad hearing Keefe saying Carolina is a Cup contender...what the heck happen to this sad sack of a team...the Leafs are supposed to be the Cup contender!

Dubas never bothered to poll the players to see whether they will play hard for Sheldon Keefe before gifting him that 2-year contract.

Actually I got the same vibe as back when Ron Wilson was fired (thank you to the person that posted the video of his last home game, good memories of a horrible coach getting his just desserts).

If anyone remembers, some time before Christmas when the Leafs were playing like utter trash, Wilson cryptically wrote a tweet that said something like "I'm really hoping Santa brings me what I want on Christmas...", and everyone was like what f@ck is this guy talking about? On Christmas day he tweets again "He came He came! I got my red ryder BB gun and an extension blah blah fuggin BLAH" (paraphrasing). Everyone was perplexed because it's like WTF has he done to deserve that? Burke says oh, it's to avoid distractions, yada yada. Two months later and he's fired because the team only gets worse. What any fan (with a brain) realized is that Burkie did his old buddy Ron "a solid" and gave him a full year's salary as a Christmas gift, because dude was gonna be fired for sure - probably from above Burke's head. Wilson knew he lost the room and there was no way he was coming back. It wasn't an accident it happened on Christmas and Wilson tweeting that shit was his big f@ck you to the fans and the org.

I wouldn't be shocked one bit if that's a potentially similar scenario here with Dubas and Keefe. Would any self respecting GM extend a coach who committed two consecutive playoff choke jobs? A coach who has had his team on a down turn since early last season? I mean, I personally don't blame Keefe nearly as much as Dubas, as the coach it's really hard to deal with all of your competent "glue guys" being too expensive to keep season after season, leaving you with the unenviable job of mollycoddling your spoiled brat stars and trying to convince the AHL-quality players below them that you're all one big happy family, all one unit with the same collective goal. Sorry, the players know that isn't true.

So unless the team has some miraculous swing in effort and output (not impossible) I'm going to chalk this up to Keefe having lost the room and it's only a matter of time before he (at least) is fired.

The Cap killed your team.

Bunting and Kerfoot in the top six? Every player in the Leafs bottom six besides Spezza is either damaged goods or were never good. It’s just not a good roster. They could try their very hardest and it wouldn’t be good. 2019 was the best Leafs iteration and was probably only a piece or two away from a Cup, and it lost Anderson, Hyman, Kadri, Brown, Kapanen and Johnsson and has nothing in the lineup to show for it besides Kerfoot.

I wonder why the cap didn't kill other teams...like Carolina...oh right, they don't have Dubas gifting overpaid contracts and then having to strip the team of any depth..."It's my job to work around the margins and find players."...nice way of saying that he needs to find scraps to fill out the roster because he paid too much for some of the wrong players that make up the core 4.
