we are so SOFT. We will never win like this

I’m pointing to the Leafs are a known qty in the league. You’re allowed to do this to them, they let you.

And no matter who the GM brings in, the coach tells them to turn the other cheek.

Fire keefe
There definately seems to be some disconnect there.

The Leafs are no different from any other team. Ironically, you're actually arguing against your own argument and pointing to a time when they did respond.
Meanwhile, proving my point by thinking that type of outlier game is common for any team.

This has nothing to do with the coach or GM. Ridiculous attempt to shift blame.

What are you talking about? According to you there is no blame to shift in the first place !

Don't worry advanced stats are getting better and maybe in the future someone can make you a model ( by definition imperfect representation of the real world) you'll understand.

I woke up this morning with one over riding feeling….

Very simply, why should I as a fan of this team care any longer, when the players clearly don’t?

I’m not saying I’m done, or will completely stop watching, but really what are we all doing supporting this????

There’s been:
18 Wheelers
4-1
Zamboni drivers
Playoff chokes
Last night lack of snot

Beyond pathetic
I woke up wondering the same thing. I've been watching this team play for over 50 years, it's a habit by now so I guess I'll keep watching but I feel my level of engagement took a massive hit after last night and I'm more disgusted than ever by the lack of pride shown by this bunch of p***yes.

Oh they'll still win a bunch of games with all that talent, but you need to win 4 playoff rounds to win the cup and I just don't see it happening with this group and it's just not possible to travel that long, hard road with a group of softies that don't care about each other. There have been numerous previous displays of softness in the past but last night was the final straw for me. I'll still watch until they lose the last game of the year which will almost certainly happen in the1st or maybe the 2nd round and then I'll wait until they announce Marner's next contract in the summer which will doom us to another 8 years of irrelevance.

This is the most talented group of players I've ever seen in Toronto, but it's also the most unlikeable group of players I've ever seen in Toronto. Considering we have basically zero chance of winning the cup, watching them play feels like a complete waste of time.

We would have been better off keeping Lou instead of Dubas. Maybe we'd have a cup by now, and maybe we wouldn't but at least we wouldn't be the softest "team" in the league and have the reputation of being a bunch of p***yes.

Embarrassing.

Time to place your bets against the leafs in the first round

Never forget.

My God I loved Kadri. Can't believe that idiot traded him. So he got suspended in the playoffs. Who cares? We always get guys suspended in the playoffs. It doesn't matter who we have, we'll get a suspension. I'd much rather have Kadri and get eliminated early on, that watch whatever we have become and get eliminated early on.

It was a message to the whole team, you better play it safe if you want to stay Leaf

Unfortunately, Kadri just had to cross the line one too many times.

Being a Leaf fan right now = the first year at Christmas, as a kid when you found about Santa.

You still liked Christmas but the con was over.

At present, there is zero chance of a Cup this year. None. Go Leafs go and all that, but I’m not going to invest much “give a heck’s”.

They don’t deserve it.

This is how I've felt for 6 years now. There has been no doubt in my mind that this team will be nowhere near a Cup. As much as I want it to happen, it just won't.

What occurred last night was a complete embarrassment to our crest .. if i was on da ice i would have wrapped my stick so far up Marchands balls and *ss he would not stand straight rest of his life .. as DD rightly said sometimes you just have to waste one here and there

What's your theory on why there was no response?

Marchand's glow from his huge halo not only blinded the refs, it also blinded our Leafs.

No wonder that idiot Burtuzzi was grinning from ear to ear as his teammate was being helped off of the ice.

Boston's best players should have been targeted for violence for the rest of the game, however our Charmin soft team were too scared to do anything.

Disgusting refereeing, and an even more disgusting non-response from our Leaf players from top to bottom.

Where is the Shanahan toughness ???

Mine is as follows:

The players who should care the most are the highest paid players and the “leaders”. They however are all skill and no grit. 34, 16, 91, 88, 44

As a generalization, the players who are expected to fight, block shots and hustle and be the glue guys - are the lowest paid players.

These lower paid players watch the top guys get the glory and then watch them take every f***ing penny they can get at contract time. The leaders give zero f***s about the crest or their lower level teammates. They care about stats, endorsements, magazine covers and contracts, a cup is secondary.

The whole roster construction and salary structure are the problem. You have to have 2-3 of your leaders being guys who will do the dirty work as well.

It’s as simple as that. That is our current culture and it shows and stinks.

Seems like a pretty accurate depiction.

How many times must I repeat the same line at the start of every season:

This is the same team.

That is it. No one they brought in last Summer is going to change that and none will next Summer either, or the one after that. As long as the Leafs stick with this core four, this is the Toronto Maple Leafs. To change that, they all need to go. All of them.

But since that is not in MLSE's plans, outside maybe Tavares walking when his contract is up, just accept it as I have. The same team, every year.

I love the crest but I dislike the players wearing it immensely.

Unacceptable that there wasn’t an immediate reaction.

These guys are just losers. They have no pride and are a bunch of p***yes.

Honestly sick of being doormats that everyone takes advantage of. The disrespect by opponents should stir up some, but these guys are more concerned about their bank accounts and wardrobe than their teammates.

They aren’t doing shit in the playoffs and are already laughing stocks across the league.

They get no respect because they don’t deserve it. What have they done to earn it?

Pathetic bunch of p***yes, with an idiot of a coach.

Just disgusted by it all.

Last time I saw p***yes that big was at the Atherley in Orillia at least 10 years ago.

I read this like Bob Dylan

As usual, you just make s**t up. Okay, how about: every successful team responds to disrespectful plays that intend to injure.
He is not making it up.

Florida just did nothing after McAvoy crushed OEL.

It happens almost every night where there is no response. We just see when it does happen because it makes highlite reels.

It used to happen all the time, but for whatever reason it has stopped.

the team is soft and typically a soft team is the embodiment of their captain. Teams typically take on their captain's identity.

Tavares has no emotion and the rest of the team follows suit. After that hit everyone on the ice should have attacked the RAT and tried to get at him and who care if they scored while they were attacking the RAT.

Of course the top line was on and they are soft as butter but where was GIO? In Calgary he would have been the 1st one there going after the RAT.

I wonder if MLSE has neutered the team saying we want a fan-kid-friendly brand of hockey so they can sell tons of high priced tickets.

I hope TREE goes down to the team meeting today and puts the clip of Lilly getting smoked and then everyone on the bench but Reeves just sitting there silent on the bench. Hopefully Tree lights them up and says we are a soft bunch of p***yes and you will never win 4 rounds of playoffs playing p***y hockey.

You wonder why guys like O'Reilly say there was something missing on that team and part of the reason why he left. He is a warrior and probably realized this core is soft so no matter how many Reaves you bring in it won't change the culture

How could a team so talented be so unlikeable?

I'm honestly at the point where I'd take some middling fringe playoff team that atleast plays hockey the right way. You know - the kind of teams that oust us in the playoffs.

My apologies for saying people were panicing too early. I am not concerned about them making the playoffs and was coming from that angle.

But this team is as soft as ever. And last playoff it felt good to see a team that pushed Tampa around. Losing Schenn was a massive, massive loss. Both with what he brought to our group and for how well he was playing with Rielly.

Keeping Schenn with Rielly means Brodie is able to help the 2nd pairing. It makes us deeper and tougher.

But that is a small thing. The real problem is Matthews still looks meh, Marner looks meh. Nylander looks great but is looking to be paid. All our signings have been underwhelming to say the least, and the toughness we spent so much on at the TDL all walked and we are back where we started.

It's well known the story about how after Tampa got swept by Columbus the team realized they had to change their approach, from the stars down. And they did, became a nasty team that won 2 cups.

The Leafs have had 3 "come to Jesus" series where the stars/leaders needed to come to the same realization. After the Columbus (they played well in one game out of 5), the Montreal humiliation and this past season against the Panthers.

And yet the stars/leaders still refuse to either see it or make the necessary changes to their approach to the game. And that's why I say they all really need to go, because they have proven they simply don't have it in them.

Okay, now I'm done. For today at least.

What's the solution? We add "sandpaper" and it doesn't do anything.
Because they see the high priced players, making 10 times or more of the money, only being concerned with themselves and NOT the crest on the front of their jerseys.

If you don't lead and care, then why should I being paid so lowly.
