Because Scuderi didn't have a "material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract" as far as I know. I think the Kings will have to release what he did, because it seems pretty sketchy right now.

What happens in Vegas doesn't really stay in Vegas ...

Seriously though, what is it with that team? Voynov. Stoll. Now this thing with Richards. Which may or may not be as bad as 'not releasing the details' make it sound.

Nice, to see IC putting the Phil deal at 101% I would not have made that type of claim from what I have been told, but maybe he's heard some more information than I have heard last. :handclap:

the 101% thing was a joke, because I got called Rob Eklund

Well, I'm assuming one of the couple dozen mock lineups out there is enough proof that he can indeed fit under the cap with additional players being added.

As for Malkin, I always assumed we would see something like the below if Kessel is brought in-

Perron-Sid-Horny
Bennett-Geno-Kessel

I think Malkin would be happy with that.

As for the other lines, the 4th line obviously has Spaling centering to WBS guys (Rsut, Wilson, Farnham, whoever) and if Sutter stays, he gets Oskar and a Kuntiz/UFA, or if Sutter gets shipped Oskar gets to center his own 3rd line (or 4th if you want to slowly bring him along). If Sutter is indeed moved for Oshie, then you have Bennett move down to the 3rd and you have a pretty decently skilled 3rd line.

It's not going to be easy, but there is enough room under the cap and moving pieces to fit Kessel on the team without hamstringing the team cap wise.

Yeah, I think they're going to pull out the lack of training card as evidence for terminating this contract. It's smart by them, but ****, that makes me mad.

The only way I can see this flying for the Kings is if Richards did something criminal after the season ended [To be clear: I'm not saying he did or anything like that]. If his conditioning was enough to be a material breach how did they determine that wasn't true in season, but it is now? If it's something like "poor reputation impact from non-criminal, yet 'immoral' activities" you know for damn sure the PA will grieve that to the bitter end.

I don't think they'll win that. He can point to his Sept/Oct 14 fitness evaluation (every player has one at the start of camp) and his evaluation at the end of the season, and his offseason training routine... Honestly, I think it has to be something else.

So LA is either being dicks or being dicks. They either knowingly tried to pawn this contract-breaching player onto any team who would take him or after not being able to move his contract they're trying to get out of the contract by saying he breached the contract. Either way, dick move LA.

I think they did something else to get out of Voynov's contract. I don't think it's affecting their cap.

The Kings suspended him, but not for that. He sustained an injury while serving an NHL suspension, supposedly engaging in a prohibited activity.

By prohibited activity, I don't mean something shady (small s), necessarily. Lamoriello suspended a guy without pay for torching his knee while skiing/snowboarding, for example.

So spend the better part of $50M on a guy that is essentially a clone of the two guys we've already got? Except the team he's with now doesn't want him and the team before that didn't want him. Our new coach and GM will straighten him out though right? He'll take us all the way to the SCF?

Why do we need Kessel? We're paying $20M/year for two guys that are supposed to score and take us all the way. In the post season, we've FAILED for half a decade because of injuries, lack of performance, coaching, management, etc. So we bring in Phil to be there when everyone else gets hurt or isn't feeling it in the post season? Is that worth $50M over 7 years, his trade clause and whatever BS the guy brings into the organization, locker room, etc? All so he can say he "wants traded" a year or two from now when he's standing in Sid or Geno's shadow?

Nope.

Show my work? Look it up yourself. Very nice graphic actually. You'll find it I'm sure.

Pens are injury prone. Maybe they've been targeted. Maybe they haven't had any balls on this team in a while. Fact is they were solid, even very good early on this year and went into the ****ter towards the end when it mattered because of injuries. I'd rather see them put together a 90-100% healthy season first before trading away youth (Maata, Kapanen) and spending $50m on another 'star'. We have plenty of those here.

You don't think pairing him with 2 all world talents on the 2nd line is a good idea to see what he can do with them? I think it would tell us/the team a lot about his future.

It doesn't have to be permanent, but I think it's a really good litmus test for Beau.

They might have other options to get Voynov off the books. If he's charged [edit - convicted], they could very likely get the contract voided - especially if he's forced to leave the US.

I'm just looking for any way possible to make the Flyers pay for giving him that contract.

Voynov should have been terminated as soon as he went to court. It's so obvious he's guilty, and him getting a suspended sentence doesn't wipe what he did away. They have enough just from statements.

Interesting take, with the Sobotka news from today, Sutter certainly does make more sense for the Blues. Either way, I'd be thrilled with getting Oshie for Sutter.

This shouldn't be news from "today". It was posted a couple months ago that Sobotka was staying in the KHL next season.

The question I posed and still do is if we get Kessel how does he fit under the cap? He will take a sizable portion of it and then what? What about the rest of our lines? Did we just say **** you Malkin again? Play with what we give you? Where is his help? What about our depth that so many have preached through last season and the playoffs? Where does that money come from? So many of you want ONE big line but how does that help us? Maybe I'm missing something?

I'm all for getting Kessel but what concerns me is the what next? What about what its going to take to get him. Will that completely drain what little talent/prospects we have? Should we even consider it?

There are other options out there. Skinner, Oshie, Sharp, and I recently have been told that Yakupov and Hudler are also in the mix. I admit none of them are as prodigious offensively as Kessel of course but why put all our eggs in one basket? I just don't understand this obsession with one player that will more than likely cost more than the team should pay. I would much rather grab two of those players and have two scoring lines and be able to add depth to the bottom 6 than handcuff the team with one very expensive line.

This. Obvious for some of us. Not so much for others on here.

Kessel is no where near a clone of Sid/Geno (or Horny/Perron if that's what you're getting at).

It takes more than 2 players to score to win. Just look at the last 2 playoff exits.

You've shown me enough to know that you're not familiar with the team, players and the league.

Good luck in your future endeavors

Exactly, this organization is beyond soured on BB, if we turns out to be a serviceable 3rd liner here we are lucky. You'd be seeing a guy dupuis in the top 6 over him on a regular basis , sadly.

If Dupuis is in the top 6, I will smack someone

I've read the names of Oshie, Berglund, Rattie, Barbashev; but the name coming out of St. Louis today that they might be looking to move is Kevin Shattenkirk. If DP goes to the Leafs, might the Pens have interest there? Nice 3/4 with Cole.

I respect your opinion WFH. But your last statement scares me in that this management team couldn't even get under the cap and we ended up playing the last 10 games without a 6th defenseman. Now all of a sudden they are gonna be able to handle a contract like Kessel? And still make the team competitive?

No offense, but that doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

Since Kessel is very fast I would have assumed he would have been played with Crosby being that Sid needs that speed to simply keep up with him. Isn't that what most have been saying on here? Hornqvist didn't really mesh with Malkin last yr so I would think the top line would be PH SC PK unless PH can't play LW. That leaves DP Malkin and ? I doubt Bennett will be here. It would have to be an UFA at that point. Frolik perhaps?

I don't think we have the pieces for a Shattenkirk

So whoever said they know some pens pr people, any hint they're still preparing for a big media spin? Guess they'd try that either way no matter who they get.

The Sutter to St. Louis idea is an interesting one to put it lightly. Sutter certainly seems like the kind of player that would work well in St. Louis under Hitchcock. Backes is a free agent in a year and many speculate that he's more suited as a winger (which seems odd, since his faceoff numbers are fantastic), so maybe they view Sutter as a potential 2C. They are pretty pedestrian in goal scoring outside of Tarasenko, they only had 4 guys with over 20 goals. Sutter scoring 25 goals as a 2C isn't out of the question. Just from looking at their roster, they seem to have a pretty slow forward group overall, which Sutter would help too. They also have a chronic case of failing to produce in the playoffs, while Sutter actually thrived as a 2C in the 2014 playoffs. I could definitely see a match here.

Minny suspended Harding for kicking a wall and breaking a bone in his foot last fall.
