Exactly, this organization is beyond soured on BB, if we turns out to be a serviceable 3rd liner here we are lucky. You'd be seeing a guy dupuis in the top 6 over him on a regular basis , sadly.

If Sid and Kessel are the starting points for the first line, Id be ok with Dups as the other winger, IF his speed is still where it was. Those three guys on a line would be ridiculous to maintain, speed wise.

Two of the three can wheel it over the blue line themselves (with speed) OR dump and have Dups chase. All he has to do is hold on to it for like 2 seconds until one of the other guys is open.

I'm not saying this is what I WANT to see. Im saying you have to spread around the love a bit. Dups has shown chemistry with Sid and has phenomenal speed. It could be a lot worse.

EDIT: Which leaves Perron and Horns playing with Malkin .. which is a pretty sweet prospect on its own.

I've read the names of Oshie, Berglund, Rattie, Barbashev; but the name coming out of St. Louis today that they might be looking to move is Kevin Shattenkirk. If DP goes to the Leafs, might the Pens have interest there? Nice 3/4 with Cole.

Why would they move him? It would be pretty astounding to get Shattenkirk though.

I'm just looking for any way possible to make the Flyers pay for giving him that contract.

Voynov should have been terminated as soon as he went to court. It's so obvious he's guilty, and him getting a suspended sentence doesn't wipe what he did away. They have enough just from statements.

Innocent until proven guilty.

While I agree with you he probably did it, that's not the same as the crown (w/e the US equivalent is) being able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did it. And until that happens, I don't think the NHLPA would allow the Kings/NHL to terminate his contract.

You don't think pairing him with 2 all world talents on the 2nd line is a good idea to see what he can do with them? I think it would tell us/the team a lot about his future.

It doesn't have to be permanent, but I think it's a really good litmus test for Beau.

You don't think Bennett would be part of some package deal? I'll be very surprised if he is still with the team.

They've been trying to move Bennett for a while. This year will be the Despres treatment: do just enough to get him Tanner Glass-level value.

Any support for a Mike Ribiero-esque 1yr, 1 to 1.5MM offer to Mike Richards to be the 3C if the contract breaching copout actually works for LA?

whether its merited or not to move beau, does no one on the inside realize how self defeating a way of managing an asset's value that is?

I respect your opinion WFH. But your last statement scares me in that this management team couldn't even get under the cap and we ended up playing the last 10 games without a 6th defenseman. Now all of a sudden they are gonna be able to handle a contract like Kessel? And still make the team competitive?

No offense, but that doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

Since Kessel is very fast I would have assumed he would have been played with Crosby being that Sid needs that speed to simply keep up with him. Isn't that what most have been saying on here? Hornqvist didn't really mesh with Malkin last yr so I would think the top line would be PH SC PK unless PH can't play LW. That leaves DP Malkin and ? I doubt Bennett will be here. It would have to be an UFA at that point. Frolik perhaps?

At least you have valid concerns and scenarios. I can understand all that.

Just me personally, when someone with the skill of Kessel is offered (at a most likely discounted asset price) you take him and mold the team around Sid, Geno, Kessel like they should have been doing all along. Taking on a contract like this might force them to actually be smart in UFA and not always chase the Pairses and Hossas of the market and be left holding the bag. Now you're holding the cards with a loaded Top 6 and last year (and some other years) have shown, the cheap Bottom 6 guys are there. But now you don't have to force them into scoring roles off the bat.

I know this is a lot of hope that the organization has learned some big lessons, and I'm not fully sure that they've learned all of them, but they've seemed to have smartened up some by what (little) I've seen so far this offseason.

Just different opinions for different personalities I guess.

Thanks.

It borders on criminal the way they have handled those two.

This is a battleship-sized loophole in the collective bargaining agreement. Material breaches of contract can only be appealed to the Commissioner's office?

Minny suspended Harding for kicking a wall and breaking a bone in his foot last fall.

Another good example

Sutter for Oshie
Kunitz for a draft pick
Sign Frolik

Frolik-Crosby-Hornqvist
Perron-Malkin-Oshie

This also fits what Yohe was saying yesterday about Frolik sliding down once Kapanen is ready. The most ideal spot for Kapanen long term is on Crosby's LW. The 2nd line would be set in stone as long as we wanted those 2 there, and then Kapanen will eventually bump Frolik off of the top line (hopefully). It sets up our bottom-6 very nicely with size (Plotnikov and Sundqvist), speed (Dupuis and maybe Comeau if they keep him), talent (Bennett if they keep him) and whatever Spaling does.

Neither. If the Penguins sign Ribeiro I'm never giving them money again.

As for Richards, now hes a distractions.

The Pens mismanagement of what talent they have on this team is frightening. Granted Bennett has brought some of the issues on himself, and some is bad luck with health. But still they toss away assets that have value if allowed to find themselves like they have them growing from the trees outside of CEC.

Shero is gone, Disco is gone, but the music being played remains the same.

Which tells you that the guys actually leading the band still are there stinking up the place.

Yup. I could see Bettman siding with LA, then Richards sueing LA and winning in civil court.

when he gets moved, i expect it to be in a package, not for like, ya know, a 7th round pick, that way they can say, "well, we really didn't want to move him, we really like him as a player, but, man, we had an opportunity to get <player X>, and Bennett was the piece they required to give him to us, so, we had to do it"

which allows them to save face, while the other team gets a free shot at a lottery ticket.

i guess knowing/caring become one and the same when you think your optimized objective is to win the most by paying the least. having institutionalized idiocy couched as callous disregard is the most troubling aspect of this whole organization.

Thought Bennett was supposedly part of last year's deal for Kane, before Kane was hurt and went to Sabres? I'd assume he might be a part of any St. Louis deal, as I think maybe Kunitz if he doesn't go to the Leafs. Kunitz may have value to Armstrong, Team Canada tie.
