Just top five or so protected. I would say to pick seven. If the pick is then it goes to 2017.

That is not unreasonable.

Do you plan on taking out any Pens?

Do we need to put them on high alert?

Jaded is in the stands, take cover!

Otherwise, I don't see the need.

We have been burned in the past, including losing the number one overall pick. It is a highly unlikely scenerio, but anything is possible. Especially with injuries. But that it is highly unlikely is why I doubt that for Toronto that it would be a deal breaker.

I know Rossi said it was Kunitz, Scuderi, Pouliot and a 1st. Is that the actual speculated deal though?

That deal is almost too good to be true to be accurate.

Amazing what opens up when you get rid of the dead weight on this team.

Seriously. Being top heavy is not this team's problem. The awful contracts are. You ship them out and we are actually sitting really pretty.

I think the Riley Nash thing is a negotiation tactic. A few years ago the Pens did the same with TK. No qualifying offer. Then they signed him literally minutes before FA opened on July 1.

I'm noticing Leafs fans' prices for Kessel in the trade board thread are steadily decreasing... lots of people seem to be fine with DP+Kunitz+Sutter+1st now. hope the same thing is happening in real life

Reality is sinking in. We all have seen teams stick to their position of a huge return for too long and get really burned accepting far less later. At what point does a team get too greedy and screw themselves? For Toronto fans, and the team itself, I suspect that fear is creeping in.

Neither team HAS to make this trade.

But of the two teams, Toronto NEEDS this trade to happen more.

Pittsburgh has a number of other viable options. Toronto not as many who can and will pay a similar price.

That's the most likely deal to work. If a deal happens, I'm like 90% sure it will be something like that.

In my job you plan for the unlikely. You have to.

In any event, like I said it is unlikely, which is why I doubt that Toronto balks at the request. If they do, then make them pay for the concession. Giving more somewhere else.

I'm all for Toronto fans having some bad dreams. Maybe they'll wake up in a cold sweat, thinking that they've just traded Kessel + $2.5 million salary for Scuderi, Kunitz, Jayson "Yes, seriously, J-A-Y-S-O-N" Megna, + a 2021 5th rounder.

Still seems odd. Even if he out performed his QO, why not at least offer him that? Retains his rights, and odds are he wouldn't sign it. Sure he has arbitration rights, but this is a guy who has 18g and 49 points in 2 years. He's still only going to get paid peanuts.

Pouliot, Sutter, Scuderi 1st for Kessel
Kunitz, Spaling for Marchand, Talbot (doesn't matter if it makes sense because nothing they do makes sense)

Sign Plotnikov and Tikhonov

Marchand-Crosby-Hornqvist
Perron-Malkin-Kessel
Plotnikov-Tikhonov-Bennett
Sundqvist-Talbot-Dupuis

Just to put emphasis on how incredible this would be:

I'd like to see us make a run at Stafford. I have always thought he'd look good with how Sid.

My question with a Kessel acquisition is, "are there enough pucks?"

You're talking about a winger who like to drive the play. He'd be playing with two centers who like to drive the play. That's a tough one to answer.

How do Saad, Toews and Hossa do it? You can have more than one player to drive the play on a line.

I dont disagree though that there will be an adjustment period for Sid (or geno). But hopefully he realizes he doesnt need to have his line soley revolve around him. And he can focus on being more of a two way player as he ages. Yzerman type transition. His idol.

Regardless, I think he'll play like he does with Geno. Defering. And with Kessel's superior shot and speed, I have no issue with that.

Under the persistence of their calling, they don't balk.

No it's not tough to answer. One of the best goal scoring wingers in the game is available and the Pens can get him. Screw Stafford.

If we could land Kessel and Marchand, I'd be ****ing ecstatic. Holy ****.

The Bruins just might be dumb enough to do it this summer as well.
