Honestly, I would suspect it has more to do with Pittsburgh not wanting this to get in the way of them looking at FA options. It would suck if they focused on this, missed out on FAs and in the end couldn't reach a deal for Kessel.

Honestly, while 4m isn't a minor amount of money, I don't think it's a major stumbling block for either team. Toronto is filthy rich, and Pittsburgh is wealthy enough that if the fee to acquire Kessel is the 4m bonus, they'll likely suck it up.

4.55 to spend on a winger for Geno and backup goalie. (obviously got to leave a little wiggle room) Ideally Kapanen would win that second line wing spot, but he still might be one year away. Which would give us even more money for a winger.

I hope they don't include Sutter in the deal to Toronto. They can get value for him separately. If we're signing Frolik, then just shop him for a prospect. But if the Leafs will give up value for him, fair enough.

Send Kunitz anywhere he'll go to. I'm sure a team would take him for free. Hopefully a 3rd. And just include Scuds in the Kessel deal. Cap problems over.
