The pens should probably put in a clause in Bennett's contract precluding him from partaking in contact sports in the offseason.

Yeah I could see Toronto being willing to wait, but Pittsburgh will want to know what they can spend in free agency. Say they decide to wait on Kessel, they likely can't go out and sign Frolik and make the necessary moves to shed salary to fit in another top 6 winger.

If the Pens and Leafs can't make a deal by noon on July 1, I think you see the Pens change course quickly. That would be stupid for Toronto as their return will continue to diminish the longer they drag this out. So while they have time, it would be wise for them to take the best deal possible and move on.

Now if they are actually open to keeping Kessel, then they have plenty of time.

Assuming they are not open to keeping Kessel, which all indications point to, then their window with us will indeed close when we sign or trade for our first 5m a year winger.

I fully expect the JR train to just keep trucking, and sign a Frolik or Ward on day 1 or 2 of FA if TOR doesn't come around. Also, keeping Kunitz in the fold increases our leverage, as we've proven to be just crazy enough to keep him as a top 6 forward. Being nuts can help, in some situations.

Unless we trade Bennett and Kunitz both, it's not quite clear where we could put him. His faceoff numbers are really bad, which explains why teams keep putting him on wing.

Whistle to whistle, I love his game, I just don't see a hole for a $3+ million 3rd line wing on the roster at present.

This general profile fits Berglund as well, who probably has similar value to Sutter for a 1 to 1 trade. I like the player in a vacuum, but he's an expensive 3rd liner or tweener at best with bad faceoff numbers, so we really don't have a spot for a guy like that.

All contracts restrict players' ability to do dangerous stuff like other contact sports or riding ATVs, but roller hockey probably counts as reasonable off season training for professional ice hockey.

I think if the deal is going to be made, there will be something else leaked that is negative towards Phil a day or couple hours beforehand. Like how he doesn't tip at restaurants in Toronto or something. Anything that will lessen the blow for Leafs fans and help them move on.

Yep. Building a roster from scratch, Berglund and Matthias might be the wings I take on a third line, but it's not real feasible to get from here to there.

Well Kunitz is who I had in for Matthias to replace.

At this point, the man has to be a salary dump where the Pens get a draft choice in return and don't start getting greedy in wanting roster players in return.

Would probably be wiser to put Kunitz' money into the top 6 instead of 3 RW. No bargain players we can put up top, unless we want to rush Kap.

If the Pens do make the Kessel trade, I hope that they are smart enough to top five protect the first round pick. Yeah, it is unlikely that they end up there, but the Pens have gotten burned that way before. If it is top five the pick should be the year after.

Yeah there's nothing against it. We go to state wars every year and its filled ahl and NHL players. 2 years ago we played against Missouri which had bolig, Phil maroon, pat maroon and chris terry on it lol. We only lost 5-3. Also pat maroon is fast on roller blades lol
