For what it's worth I don't see the Kessel thing happening now. I think both teams are probably moving in other directions by this point.

IF a Kessel trade actually happens I think that we can safely say that Maatta will not be part of it at this point.

If he had been part of the offer the trade would have happened. And nothing is going to change to make him part of it.

The ball seems to be squarely in Toronto's court right now to decide if they want to make the trade on the table or not. It seems that the window is limited as well as the Pens likely use at least some of those assets elsewhere within a couple of days if this falls through.

I actually put the drop dead date as wednesday.

However I see your point.

Pens obviously are not caving. Either Toronto takes the deal on the table or not. If they were going to there is no reason to wait until wednesday to see if the Pens blink. Pretty obvious that they are not going to do so. If they want the deal may as well do it now or walk away.

Yeah, I think they're going to pull out the lack of training card as evidence for terminating this contract. It's smart by them, but ****, that makes me mad.

I'm guessing Richards failed a drug test and L.A. is going to use that as an excuse to terminate rather than buy-out his contract.

What direction would TOR go in? Keeping him? Has any legitimate source linked Kessel to any other team than PIT since the draft?

The deadline for this deal may well extend into free agency until the Pens either make a deal with St. Louis or Carolina (or even Edmonton, I guess) or signs a Ward or Frolik.

Yeah I could see Toronto being willing to wait, but Pittsburgh will want to know what they can spend in free agency. Say they decide to wait on Kessel, they likely can't go out and sign Frolik and make the necessary moves to shed salary to fit in another top 6 winger.

If the Pens and Leafs can't make a deal by noon on July 1, I think you see the Pens change course quickly. That would be stupid for Toronto as their return will continue to diminish the longer they drag this out. So while they have time, it would be wise for them to take the best deal possible and move on.

Now if they are actually open to keeping Kessel, then they have plenty of time.

Let's not jinx ourselves here. Karma is brutal. Let's ease up on the trash talking of Boston until we see what our incompetent GM does this summer.

JR could easily make worse moves, just wait until philly acquires Kessel and he trades a 2016 1st round pick for Sharp and signs Obduya to a 4 year deal.

Incredible to me how nobody talks about Matthias. Completely under the radar.

Unless we trade Bennett and Kunitz both, it's not quite clear where we could put him. His faceoff numbers are really bad, which explains why teams keep putting him on wing.

Whistle to whistle, I love his game, I just don't see a hole for a $3+ million 3rd line wing on the roster at present.

Let's be serious about one thing. The fact that nobody else is publicly linked doesn't mean anything. There could be a lot of calls going on that nobody has reported.

I think it would benefit Toronto to leak those teams' names if that were the case.
