This made me cry and you’re a wonderful human being for stringing those words together for my benefit

nah, Im just a dad man.
Maybe the only thing I ever truly felt I done right.

We all have doubts and fears going into it. Thats natural. And good. Because it means you truly care. You will always worry. It part of the deal.

But think of the cool things. What did you love as a little kid? What brought you joy or excitement? What experience would you love to share?
Because you get a do over in the best way possible with him/ her.
It will be the greatest experience of your life.

Id give all I have to do it again.

When I got my first one I asked my doctor if I'm supposed to give flowers to the specialist after it's done? She didn't think it was funny for some reason.

this is true story. Many, many years ago my first colonoscopy, they wheel me in and theres this older female nurse. She looks at me. Sees I still have my underwear on under the johnny.

Her-“ how do you think we are going to do this while those are on?”
I just look at her.

Her- “ look, Im retire Army Captain nurse. I hate to tell you but Ive seen hundreds of what you got and it wont be special “.
” Now lose those drawers”.

I kid you not!

Wally is the best.

You will be fine because you care.

You can always come here for advice as there are many dads on this board!

When I got my first, the doctor asked what I did for a job. I told him and said it was boring but paid the bills...He said "I look up people's asses all day"

I'm considering getting a dash cam for my car. Anyone have recommendations? I know exactly nothing about them other than that I feel these days I should have one.

100 pound Bernese Mountain Dog jumps on the bed a few nights ago....lands right on the side of my knee

This knee replacement can't come fast enough

Working and just walking is a struggle
Omg. Straight up nightmare. Thankful my calf injury is on my left leg so the dog didn’t try to snuggle up against it. I’ll need to make an appointment to have it looked at when I get home just to make sure there isn’t something structurally wrong in my knee or Achilles.

I strongly suspect I reinjured it after I nearly fell off the table after my si joint injection. I lost all feeling in my leg and nearly went down. Since then I noticed it bothered me when I was on it too long or if I was going up and down stairs but ignored it.

I hope your knee replacement goes well and your pain is relieved.

Today has been interesting!

Started the day with a pre-Thanksgiving service call for our gas oven which has been temperamental. Good news: the oven is fixed!

Bad news: a few hours later I came home and smelled gas. Called the fire department who came and took some readings, they didn’t find anything except to mention maybe I was smelling my plethora of pumpkin spice candles (side note: not a comment that would have been made to a man). I felt better and went on with my day.

Few hours later, and with the windows open to air out any gas buildup from the service call earlier, I was still smelling gas - so was Joe and a friend of ours. Reached out to the tech that came to fix the oven and he told me to call National Grid immediately, which I did.

Surprise! We had a leak behind the stove. Gas to the stove is off, plumber is coming to replace the broken pipe tomorrow, and all should be well.

Lesson: always listen to your gut (and nose!) when it comes to gas…and always.

Who becomes a dad at 47

Lots of people! My dad was 45 when he became dad for the first time. Does he regret not having kids sooner? Yes. But if he had any kids any sooner, he wouldn't of met my mom when he did. So it all works out. They got married. Had the 4 of us. Have 3 grandchildren here on Earth, 1 in Heaven.

No regrets! He was a very active father, still is! And a very, very, very active grandfather. He picks up my nephew from school every day because he wants to. His doctor said he has the energy of a 40 year old. And my dad is in his 80's. You wouldn't even know it if you ever met him.

Point being. Yes. People are having kids at any age. And that's OKAY. You're going to be an amazing dad, Dan. I truly believe that.

My younger sister uses a Garmin in her car. Not sure what model it is. But I'll ask her. She seems to like it.

When I was younger I used to have one but that was 13-15 years ago, lol. Only bought it because I was young at the time and delivering food all day.

I never caught anything good or worth posting but definitely worth the purchase for your own sake.

I can tell just by looking at the first picture that I can’t afford to even wipe my feet on a rug there

We are staying here: Hotel Manoir Victoria - The 4-star hotel in the heart of Old Québec
We went there for half of our honeymoon. First week in Montreal, second week in Quebec City. It's an incredibly gorgeous city. Lots of history, culture, views etc. I wonder if they'll have the Ice Hotel available in December?
You can take a tour in the Frontenac (it's a few bucks, but they take you to see the rooms that famous people stayed in like JFK).
Your hotel looks great too, and I'm sure it will be. I was actually looking at hotels online in Quebec when Mrs. G and I got back from our Toronto vacation in September. I'm going to check out the hotel that you posted, maybe stay there if we go in the next year.
BTW: Are you driving???

Be very careful, there's a huge car theft ring going on up there and it was all over tv. The cars end up in Africa. On one of the Boston news stations they had a report about Bostonians having their cars disappear while on vacation in Montreal. Our cars are fairly new and I was thinking that the next time up there we'll drive but now, I'd probably rent a car if I drive into Canada.

He was emphatic saying don't worry as IF the PET scan shows trouble it is so small we can treat it and 2 other Doctors on my MGH team have said the same thing.

I suffered severe lung damage 43 years ago when I was trapped in a fire - I really thought I had bought the farm that afternoon - coming down those ladders at that steep angle was not fun.

Oh Dan, you are going to be an awesome Dad. You are a great person and will raise your child(ren) with so much love and caring, there is no doubt in my mind you are going to be a Dad that will be there for them no matter what life brings. It is no easy job, no matter what age you are but the rewards are immense. You will be great!

I don't think it matters where you live, car thefts have exploded. In the last month, my nephew had his new Lexus stolen and my sister-in-law's brother had two attempted thefts on his vehicle. They aren't in big cities but are about 30 minutes outside of the Toronto area.

My nephew was woken up at 2 am by a neighbour because he witnessed the vehicle being driven off. He had GPS in it and could see it was at a gas station close by. He called the police and they sent 5 cars, my nephew arrived there at the same time. The thieves had 3 cars there, gassing them up. The police surrounded the station but they drove the stolen cars over the curbs etc, long story short, they lost them after a chase because the speeds were too high.

He checked his porch camera and the thieves took about 15 minutes maneuvering the car to get it out. He had parked it close to the garage with his wife's car behind. They managed to get it out.
The next day Fedex came to his door and handed him his GPS and ownership - the thieves had thrown them out the window and a Fedex driver had spotted them.

He just picked up a new Lexus and had a theft protection device installed. They can get in the car but they can't start it without the code on the keyfob. Since the device is put in different parts of cars, the thieves don't have time to find it and remove it. Hopefully it works.
