I just thing Torres gets nothing and then he has free range on the Kings. I dont care what the new Kings fans say, but goons deter these kind of hits. Why do you think Gretz had Semenko and demanded McSorley came in the trade to LA? It's not a myth no matter what you think

Thanks for the lecture, Mr. 19 posts.

I wasn't going to say anything about Torres, but after having looked at the replay for a couple minutes, it looks like a probable headshot, although the snapping of his head makes it hard to tell.

At the end of the day I don't think that will be the bottom line, this supposed contact with the head. I think the focus must be on the charging of a particularly vulnerable individual that resulted in an injury.

In any case, I'd sooner we win Game 2 than hold out for the suspension of a peripheral player like Raffi Torres.

Quick wants another Conn Smythe!

Can you blame him ? :sarcasm:

A PAIR of these ...

Quick could win back to back Conn Smythes and Rangers fans would still say Lundqvist is at another level above Quick.

Torres will get two games, that's my prediction.

I felt that the Kings went into prevent-defense mode the entire third period, and if the Sharks just connected on a few passes this game would have turned out far differently.

After what happened to Toronto last night you would have thought the Kings would know better. Guess not.

That was a tough third period to witness from the cheap seats, but nothing compared to what St. Louis put me through. Watching the third period tonight was pure enjoyment after biting all my fingernails and toenails in the St. Louis series.

The Sharks obviously like to play wide open. For sure, that is going to get their offense rolling but it will also allow our star forwards to shine as well. Should be an interesting rest of the series.

Agreed completely. And hockey was better with straight sticks. And that forward pass fad needs to GTFO.

I don't know if it's going to be a suspension because Torres got the shoulder, but once again it's a blindside shot from a guy who keeps getting suspended for hits to the head and blindside shots.

The NHL has an obligation to put a stop to it.
the NHL and in particular the NHLPA have an obligation to change the size/materials of the shoulder/elbow pads...sooner or later someone will get killed.

I highly doubt it. His record probably makes it much more. To miss 20 games for a disgusting hit and to miss one for another bad hit is inconsistent.

Yeah but that inconsistency would be consistent to how terribly inconsistent shanahan and the department of player safety have been for a while now.

Someone mentioned that it seemed more reckless than malicious, an assessment that I agree with. It obviously caught Stoll on the head, but Stoll often skates well hunched over, and the impact was shoulder on head, not elbow on head.

I think if Torres get suspended, it will be his reputation that gets suspended more than the actual hit.

I bet if Brown had thrown that same hit you know everyone would be complaining that he was a dirty player and should be suspended.

This is why we need Westgarth. Who is going to deter Torres from doing that again? No one

Westgarth would be a waste of a roster spot that would weaken both our offensive and defensive play, and getting in a fight isn't a deterrent for that meat-headed neanderthal anyway.

Am I crazy? I've seen a couple angles of clear head to shoulder contact, but a lot of people are saying clean hit.

I read the Sharks PGT and I must have been watching a different game. A majority of posts were folks happy with the Sharks performance. If the Sharks players feel that same way - no wonder they've never won a Cup. Talk about setting your standards low. They were shut out. Who the heck feels good after a shutout loss? Apparently some Sharks fans.

GO KINGS GO!

It's not just the fans...http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1429791 (Sharks players interviews)

IMO, they just don't exude "winning" (y'know what I mean). We are going to crush these guys. Count on it. Still gonna be a tough series.

Especially the way Torres and McLellan are completely denying the headshot...have some class. Hopefully they got a better look at it after the media interviews. :sarcasm:

TSN didn't mention once that Jarrett Stoll was hurt or missing from the bench. Pretty disappointed in Ferraro and Cuthbert. How are they not aware of this? They didn't even notice that Colin Fraser was bumped to the 3rd line. Kind of weird, you'd think at least someone from the TSN crew would've noticed.

Maybe I missed it
Weird indeed. They never mentioned it. Until there were 4 minutes left, I was wondering, if I had seen Stoll in the 3rd period.

Not sure if that's a good or bad thing...

I'm just fascinated, that the Kings are winning despite their "issues" (meaning no Greene, Mitchell, probably injured Kopitar). I just hope Stoll is alright.

I seem to remember Dustin Brown throwing one or two similar hits and not getting suspended for them, but I could be wrong. Didn't look like a clean hit to the head to me, but it's right on the edge which might be trouble for a repeat offender like Torres. Who knows, suspensions are a crap shoot anyway.

Gonna be interesting to see how they handle it if Stoll is gone. Him and his line have done an excellent job of getting in on the forecheck and making things happen. Do they put Lewis at center, after the great job he's been doing on wing and despite him sucking at faceoffs? Do they split Carter and Richards and move Toffoli up as a top 6 RW? Can Richardson take over the 3rd line? Lots of options but none are ideal.

Anyway, super happy with the win, but they're supposed to win their home games. Going into SJ with a split could be bad so they had better be prepared to play the full 60 minutes tomorrow.

Stoll being slightly bent forward during the hit should not matter one bit, just as it didn't when Pominville leaned way forward to execute a poke check and was elbowed by Brown.

Shanahan better get this one right.
