More than a year ago. Let it go...

What you're saying is that players can't change. And I'm saying they can. And Brownie is a perfect example from kings perspective.

Well, so long as it only happens after 12 months have gone by, right?

I don't think that most of us are saying it was done with intent, but Torres just seems to be a guy that doesn't have a clue about what he is doing out there. He doesn't ever pause even for a second to think about the hit he is about to make. The guy is reckless and careless with the livelihoods of his peers.

Torres has a long history, plus he looks like Butters from South Park.

Great to get off to a good start. I like the fact that every player post game all were level and no satisfied, all saying they have to play better, have not played their best. They're not satisfied, even being up 1-0. That's a team that is showing why they are champs. And that comes from the GM putting the right pieces in place and a Coach that knows his stuff.

Sick about Stoll...put a dark cloud on the night. I think the fact that Stoll was in a vulnerable position when he was hit and the multitude of angles Shanny will use and past history should give Torres some press box time. You always get the feeling watching him that he's on the hunt. I've never been comfortable watching him and his repeated offenses speak volumes.

Pierre LeBrun wrote a really nice column about the Kings on ESPN today and a good part of it was about MR and how he steps up ,etc .and played his usual 'thorny' game.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/24327/kings-showing-their-championship-swagger

Last year after the Kings disposed of the Canucks, Le Brun predicted the Kings would go all way because 'nobody lin the playoffs have 2 centers that dominate 200 feet of hockey like Kopitar and Richards"

He echoed that refrain this morning:

When you’ve got that kind of 200-foot protection from both your top two centers, there’s little room to breathe for opposing forwards.

ON the Kings having the ability to frustrate every team they play "

“We have players that are capable of scoring greasy, dirty playoff-style goals,” McLellan said. “But it’s going to have come out in this series.”

Of course, these were things the Blues talked about last round without quite enough success in pulling it off.

They were also things that Vancouver, St. Louis, Phoenix and New Jersey spoke about last spring.

Easier said than done.

Indeed .

I just thing Torres gets nothing and then he has free range on the Kings. I dont care what the new Kings fans say, but goons deter these kind of hits. Why do you think Gretz had Semenko and demanded McSorley came in the trade to LA? It's not a myth no matter what you think

What you are posting was true before the instigator rule.

The league doesn't want the players to do the police work, it wants Shanaban to do it

Guys like Torres and Cooke will never stop until someone does the same thing to them. It took McSorely's stick to his head for Brashear to settle down a bit.

Sharks are a good team and they managed some decent chances. Not gonna say this will be an easy series but I will say I didn't really have any fear that game.

The St. Louis series was so tight it really was a stark difference out there. The Kings had time and space to make plays. The tension I felt watching last series was gone. Does this mean anything, probably not.

LA needs to be ready for San Jose's adjustments Thursday.

I love Quicks game. He is just unique and I don't think broadcasters get him. He has an accrobatic style and never gives up on a play. Love how other fan bases keep saying how Quick doesn't look that good in games even when he is shutting them out.

Does anyone have a video or "the Penner hit" that people are *****ing about on the main board? I honestly don't even remember him laying anyone out, but according to some it was cheap, dirty, etc...

Was it on Wingels? He crunched Wingels pretty good late in the second, I believe.

Exactly. If Shanaban can't do anything I hope someone on the Kings exacts revenge. Lombardi always said you need a few criminals, ala Brian Marchment. Either way I want Torres gone from the league, by violent force or not. Seeing the compilation video on YT makes me think its long overdue that he needs to vanish....

I'm completely wasted after these 4am games, and my sleep cycles is already in the toilet from the QFs... But. A win always makes the day so much better. For some reason I feel much more comfortable after game 1. I think this series should be easier for the Kings then the first. But after one, or even two home wins, you can still get Blues'd, so gotta watch out. Can't say I'm any sort of an expert on SJ never having seen them during the regular season, but I haven't seen that much in game 1. Kings seemed to have the game under control throughout, but the last 10 minutes when they [willingly?] pulled back, they had more room on the ice, and Quick was a puck sponge. Must say I'm quite confident that the Kings will advance, want to see how game 2 goes though. Will they adapt and overcome or will the Kings go wild yet again.

Don't know why, but I never felt the Kings were threatened in the 3rd period even with the disparity in shots (16-4, I think). The Sharks had a couple of good chances, but most of the other shots came from outside. A lot of attention on Quick's 35 saves, but there were only 19 shots through two periods, and the Kings had their way in the 2nd period.

I have read the Sharks' PGT and their fans feel pretty confident that if the Sharks play as they did in the 3rd they will have nothing to worry about. I think they misread what happened in the game though, because the only reason the 3rd period was so lopsided in shots is because the Kings were up by 2 goals.

I'm hoping that the Sharks get to play at least 3 more third periods like that in this series.

I actually think that big ear Regehr doesn't receive enough praise lately. He's been exactly what we needed on the blueline. I am hoping Dean was right when he said that Robyn was a guy he targeted because he felt he could re-sign him in the offseason. He is a perfect guy to throw out there with Doughty or Voynov and let them go crazy and know that he has things covered everywhere else on the ice.

Mainly because in that game it felt like the Kings were up 5 goals. That was the first two goal lead the Kings have had in the playoffs so far.

The 3rd period was very expected. Sharks were desperate and the Kings weren't. Even though I wasn't wild about the Kings sitting back, they did because Quick is a stud, and it worked. So long as they win.

I'm never a fan of teams sitting back in the 3rd with a lead. It usually comes back to bite them most of the time. Kings should have kept pressing the attack in the Sharks zone. But I'm pretty sure they were trying to conserve themselves for the rest of the series and save their energy. The absence of Stoll also hurt the forecheck in the 3rd...

None of us are ever happy to see the Kings take their foot off the pedal with a lead in the 3rd period, but last night it seemed like they were in total control for some reason.

This is a team with a lot of playoff experience now, and they seem to know what they are doing. San Jose expended a lot of energy trying to get back into the game in the 3rd period and a lot of shots seemed to come from the outside, or Quick saw them all the way.

I would like to see a San Jose shot chart for the 3rd period.

Agreed totally. This game reminded me a lot of Game 2 vs the Canucks last year. Canucks had 46 shots but the game was never in doubt. Once the Kings went up 2-0 going into the 3rd, I felt the game was well in hand. The Sharks repeatedly shot the puck into Quick's chest, which used to be a Kings specialty in the past.

The Kings don't have the defensive strength they had last year, and they've adapted their game. The maturity and craftiness displayed is what's so frustrating for these other teams. One of the funniest comments was the hope the Kings had some "Leafs in them". The Kings are the anti-Leafs when holding the lead. Good luck wresting the game away, especially down by 2 goals.

A thing to really think about how times have changed in Kings-land. The Kings now have had an 8 game playoff winning streak and a 5 game winning streak in consecutive seasons. Unfathomable just a handful of years ago.

he has a tenacity to him that Mitchell/Scuderi and even Greene cant match. i love every bit of it

What lefty said. :)

But I like that our defensive D Men stay underrated because then teams are more surprised when they play us. Scuderi, Greene, Mitchell are all underrated. I think Scuderi got notoriety in playoffs with the Penns from his goal stop in the finals. Other than that, we don't hear about the Defensive D Men and I think that's a good thing because it means these players are not making mistakes.

Regarding our upgraded 44, he has played responsible and takes less bone headed penalties than Greene and can hit. He doesn't seem to have as big of a mean streak as Greene near the crease for the after skirmish whistle, but he might be a good replacement for Mitchell if he is truly done. If a healthy Mitchel comes back, we will have one heck of a D for years to come provided we can keep Voynov.
