Better effort tonight please. Last game was abysmal. Especially after the stomping they gave Vegas in game 2. If that team can show up again tonight that would be great. Must win now

Imagine letting your hatred of the goalie override your love of the team.

Some fan you are.
meh. I stated after game 3 that I feel sorry for anybody that had tickets. Myself I would still go, but I know others that would be disgusted to the point of not going again and just selling tickets off.

Its hard to imagine a club as good as the Oilers lineup is laying an egg like that at home ice in its first game on home ice in this round. Tickets are exceedingly expensive now and its reasonable for fans that have to pay deep to have some expectation of seeing their club even contest the game in some way. This was a bad effort even in Regular season terms.

But I think for those that don't go in person, and I long stopped going, we don't really know how bad that game would have felt for fans in attendance.

I routinely drive up from Calgary for games. Often 3-4 times during the regular season and I try to attend at least 2 games a round during the playoffs. I've done this for probably.... 7 years.

Last game was the first time where I legit felt I completely wasted my time and money. We actually left with ten minutes left in the third. And, I've been to some absolute spankings. It was pretty deflating.

I planned to sell my tickets to tonights game, but literally can't even get 70% of face value. So, I'm headed up again tonight. They better put in a better effort.

They also take it to the net because they know Skinner will kick out multiple rebounds and seems to allow a few goals pushed under his pads.

Net front needs to be better for sure though.

It's a terrible combination. Soft coverage of the front of the net and a goalie that allows rebounds is a bad mix. The defense does have the ability to neutralize this threat though, so that should be an area of focus.

Which of course means the Oilers will play their best game of the series tonight. I mean thats how all this works right. The whole rollercoaster. I think I'm more worried about game 5 than this one.

Pretty much. Every time I feel confident they come out flat. Everytime I feel concerned, they come out flying. lol

I'm just reading this as no Hyman in the optional skate which isn't a big surprise if he's nursing an injury. I'll wait for warmups or Woody's presser before ruling him out.
Yeah very well could be. I’m just of the mindset if he really is hurt. He’s more of a liability.

I often think hurt players are more prone to both bug mistakes and taking penalties. When you are in pain your brain and motor skills aren’t always firing as they should be

I believe in this team.

They can do better and they can win. It's up to them to go out and do it. If they're the team we think they are, they'll take this adversity and bounce back even better.

To quote Stauffer, if we don't come back better, maybe were just not as good a team as we thought we were.

But we certainly can win, we can play with this team 5v5, we can match their work rate, and we certainly can take care of our own end and our net better. Need to get back to being hard to play against because in game 1 and 3 we were frankly easy to play against.

they absolutely can win, they just beat Vegas 5-1 in their own barn, they returned the favor. Now it's time to serve it back to them lol. Plus it's not like them to NOT bounce back.

Some people on here really aren't fans. It's disgusting how some ppl act after every loss. Go watch knitting FFS
lol seriously, so f***ing depressing. I just try and avoid this place after a loss until I can think a little more positively.

Everyone has seen me in some heated discussions with another poster here about our goalie selections, but I am not confident in Skinner right now. He’s had multiple games in both series where he’s let in weak goals and it’s pretty easy to tell early on when he’s not going. I wouldn’t mind seeing Campbell getting a start just to give Stu the mental break that goalies need.
I'm fine either way, Skinner might play amazing, Campbell might too or even make the defense a little more aware.

Bit nervous about this one.
I expect them to be better, but even so, things can happen. A couple bounces, a couple bad reads by the d, a miss by the goalie. Being down 2-1 sucks because regardless of if you bring it or not you HAVE TO get the result this game, playing well and bringing the effort doesnt matter anymore if they dont get the win.
I believe in them though, but hockey is hockey...

Every team left in the playoffs has been blown out at least once through the first ~10 games.

Other than Toronto/Florida every team has been blown out at least once this round. This series isn’t over yet.

Time for a big bounce back.

im genuinely scared for this game and next

Man the negativity in here is kind of sad. I understood it when the Oilers were missing the playoffs and things looked bleak, but you're watching a team with 2 future HHOFers in the middle of the 2nd round. They're not down and out, but also even the best teams who have won in the salary cap era don't win every year and often lose out in early rounds. Just enjoy the ride for a change because you're going to look back on this in 10 years when McDavid and Drai are nearing the end of their careers and realize just how blessed we are to even be in the position as fans. This is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, not a constant doomsday every time the team loses a game. You're basically making this a terrible experience for yourselves when it should be the exact opposite.
I think most people are in constant fear of being the only other team besides Lindros' Flyers to have a generational player and not win a cup. We need to win one to get this monkey off the back and I feel a lot of fans would ease up. Were basically the Capitals right now until they finally won one. Just an amazing player, pretty good team. Little bit of playoff success, no cups.

Literally just arrive on time for the game and you have a better chance than not of winning. I don't think this is a must win game because we are capable of beating any team left 3 times in a row. However, were we required to win 3 a row, I don't have much confidence we would be able to stop ourselves from giving one of the games away via apathy.

I didn't post a chatgpt in the last game day thread and we lost so I need to go back to what works. I asked chatgpt which goalie to start:

Well, let's give this a whirl!
I'll start with Stuart Skinner. The first thing to note about Skinner is that he shares his name with a well-known character from a famous animated series, "The Simpsons." Principal Skinner has long been a symbol of authority and order in the chaotic and unpredictable town of Springfield. Does this mean that Stuart Skinner also possesses a similar ability to maintain order amidst the chaos of an ice hockey game? Well, that's for us to decide.
Moreover, Skinner's surname is indicative of skin, the largest organ in the human body. The skin protects us from the outside world, and it's our first line of defense against harmful substances and physical impacts. This could be a metaphor for Skinner's role as a goalie, acting as the team's "skin" by protecting the net against the onslaught of the opposing team's attacks.
Now, let's consider Jack Campbell. His nickname, "Soupy," instantly brings to mind a warm, comforting bowl of soup. Soup is often associated with healing and comfort - does this mean Campbell has a soothing presence on the ice, providing comfort and assurance to his teammates?
The name Campbell is also associated with the famous soup company, Campbell's. Just like how Campbell's soup offers a variety of flavors to suit different tastes, perhaps Jack Campbell possesses the versatility to adapt to various playing styles and strategies. Additionally, soup is often a blend of different ingredients coming together to create something greater than the sum of its parts - just like a well-functioning hockey team.
In a world where soup can dream of being a stew and a man with a mustache is considered wiser simply because of his facial hair, we can't ignore the obvious signs. The universe is clearly suggesting that we should start Campbell because of his soup-related nickname. After all, isn't a team on the ice similar to a pot of soup on the stove? It needs to be stirred just right, heated to the perfect temperature, and each player, like an ingredient in the soup, needs to contribute their unique flavor to the overall taste.
However, we also can't ignore the Skinner principle. He protects, he guards, he allows for growth and healing just like our skin. He is the first line of defense, the barrier that guards against all onslaught.
So, after weighing the evidence, I believe the most reasonable course of action would be to make both of them play at the same time. That's right, you heard me correctly. We will revolutionize the world of ice hockey by introducing a new strategy: two goalies at once. Skinner will be the unyielding wall, the defense, the skin of the team. Campbell, on the other hand, will be the soul, the comforter, the glue that keeps the team together.
Yes, it's unorthodox. Yes, it's unprecedented. But in a world where our logic is driven by soup and skin, it seems to be the perfect solution.

I mean why does any of that matter? Being a fan should be about enjoying the games, enjoying the playoff runs and just the overall experience. Worrying about some legacy of McDavid or the team while he played here is just so odd to me. Like are people afraid of being mocked by other fanbases or not having bragging rights on a forum. If thats how people get joy out of being an Oilers fan then so be it, but thats extremely unhealthy.

I dont think anyone wants the team to be labelled the team who had Mcdavid, probably a player when all is said and done will be considered top 5 all time. And never won a cup. Thats all people will think about in 20 years when talking about this team. I guess everyones fandom is different. You have a point, I dont think everyone thinks of it like you. Most people want to win it all at least once.
