Last night, Bednar took his foot off the gas somewhere in the bottom of the 2nd period and almost paid for it. He can't do that again.

I'd agree, minus the note suggesting this was Bednar's plan. Beds doesn't seem to have any grand plans like this in his bag of tricks. Avs just get a bit complacent at their 3+ goal leads.

Good news is I don't see the team trying to change the game much, the Oilers were playing into the Avs game and the Avs are much better at it when dialed in. Avs just need to try to stay focused for 60mins and not give in to the Oilers trying to capitalize on mistakes.

Not gonna lie, I spent more time than I wanted on the topic lol

And now there is news that Jean Claude Van Damme might be retiring if oilers lose this series and Van Damme retires…… only so much me person can take.

I couldn’t imagine being that invested in so many sports lol. I’d be bald or dead.

If the Oilers lose this Series, I think that every member of the Oilers management and coaching staff should have to walk up to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and apologize to them personally as to why their all time great performances are not resulting in cup rings.

Or… they have two of the best players in the world who are going god mode and carrying the team. I know as a Leafs fan it’s hard to believe that your best players can perform when it matters most.. but it does happen.

They just lost by one goal + empty net to arguably the best team in the league. That wasn’t the slaughter you think it was.

My favorite part of the Oilers playoff run has been Leafs fans losing their shit and trying desperately to soothe their disappointment by deluding themselves that their team of overrated chokers would have been able to beat LA and Calgary.

McDavid and Draisaitl proving, once again, that they're both much better than any player on that roster just rubs a dump truck of extra salt in their wounds.

Bednar has had Murray behind JJ since early in the season.

I don't know the reason, but apparently Murray is not impressing enough in practices to get higher in the depth chart. If Johnson's awful blue-line give away vs. the blues didn't get him benched, then I suspect Murray may remain on the bench for a while.

FWIW, Smith is only one part of the Oilers' defense puzzle, with the other part being that the defensive players in front of him are not good, to be kind.

The real key is Bednar: If he pulls a Sutter and tries to play better defense and thus slows down the game, as opposed to just trying to outscore the Oilers, there is no reason to suspect that the Avs will do much better than the Flames, particularly with a backup goalie. By contrast, if Bednar can just keep the foot on the gas, the Avs should win comfortably albeit their defensive statistics will look awful.

I was in the building... you couldnt hear the person next to you at times. The decibel reader had it between 103-105 dB which is about the equivalent of a jet flyover @ 100 Ft.

You wanna argue it didnt effect the players sure.. but it was f***ing loud.
