Darcy with a few too many cocktails before the game lol.

And Makar is just such a treat to watch, I remember watching him years ago when he was just absolutely embarrassing the AJ for Brooks. It was so surprising to me that he wasn’t really getting 1st overall consideration in 2017. I said on draft day I thought NJ, Philly and Dallas would regret not taking him. Out of the three that went before him heiskanen is the only one who could be considered to be even in the same stratosphere as Makar

I mean thats just wrong. Sutter literally said out loud that the atmosphere in Rogers intimidated some of the players on the flames.

Oilers were also a home power-house in 06 due to the crowd. Often changing series when they came back home.
I’ve already replied to a similar post a couple down from yours to address the first portion.

In the second part, almost all top teams have winning records at home, that’s why they are top teams. They take advantage of things that actually make a difference like last change. Avs are 5-2 at home this year. Edmonton are 4-2. Nearly identical records even though Edmonton crowd “gives them an advantage” lol.

How would you explain that an 8 seed has a significant home advantage like 06 then? Or the Oilers in 2017?

Sure, maybe not 60 mins, but if it throws up the opposing players off the opening faceoff for 10 mins and gives the home team a jump that is a clear advantage when the margins are so slim in playoff hockey.
Again, we are talking about players who have not experienced this and even then for a couple shifts… not half a period. And again, under the outcome we are discussing, this is not Edmonton exclusive, it is a player not having seen the playoff experience first hand.

Good teams take advantage of home ice for the actual, tangible benefits like last change which plays an actual part on the games outcome lol.

What’s more concerning is that Woodcroft failed for the 3rd series in a row to have his team ready to start the series
All part of the master plan, according to Oilers fans. When they’re down 0-1 that’s right where they want them.

Laugh

I’d be pretty depressed & struggle to perform my best if I had to go to Edmonton for work, even if only for a week :dunno:

That’s a pretty shitty master plan! Although who the hell knows what Calgary’s plan was

No one is saying its for a full 60 minutes or Edmonton exclusive. But to say a crowd doesnt make a tangible difference is laughable. It has been said by many players, in every sport that going into loud, rowdy arenas/stadiums makes it harder.

It can give the team some extra jump off the beginning, it can add to the momentum when the team is flipping the flow of play, it can get dumb players agitated into doing stupid stuff. There's literally 1000s of examples in every sport.

Edmonton is just really in tune with the game and loud af, comparatively to a lot of the NHL. It wont win them a game, but it can add to moments and is one of many key components to a home advantage.

Game 1 seemed much like my EA sports NHL games when picking up a new version after not having played for a long time. High scoring, horrible goaltending, and players out of position most of the time.

Happened because of the Pacific division, because of the divisional format somebody had to make it out of that division. Nurse/Ceci/Barrie/Keith makes me wanna vomit. Oilers fans still in denial about being in the worst division in hockey, this series is gonna be a reality check.
Or… they have two of the best players in the world who are going god mode and carrying the team. I know as a Leafs fan it’s hard to believe that your best players can perform when it matters most.. but it does happen.

They just lost by one goal + empty net to arguably the best team in the league. That wasn’t the slaughter you think it was.

Because that’s never happened for dozens of other teams throughout playoff history…

So you are saying that the crowd is the reason they won on home ice? Not good goaltending, or special teams? Or timely goals? Or just flat out luck?

06 they rode Roloson, who played amazing throughout the playoffs and pronger was a beast. That’s all I remember from that series. Didn’t watch Edmonton in ‘17, so I can’t comment on what happened. But I do know that San Jose’s home crowd did not lose them any games just like Edmontons home crowd didn’t win them any.

Of course not - you said crowd has no tangible effect on players coming into the opposing barn. I said its one of the key components to home ice advanatge, specifically in Edmonton.

Oilers put up a great fight. I still don't see them winning more than 1 game, even with McDavid being a real life cheat code. If they had legitimate goaltending, completely different story.
