Would you like to debate the two friendly icings where the Oilers D gave up going for the puck at the blue line? There is enough evidence. Makar's goal was good. Just some experts chiming in.

Lol the Sportsnet panel refered to as “experts”

IMHO, series wouldn't even be particularly interesting if it were not for Kuemper's injury, since the Avs' offense versus the Oilers' defense is a serious mismatch.

The only question to me is whether Bednar pull a Sutter and try to slow down the game and play better defense rather than simply cutting loose his offense and outscoring the Oilers. This decision would seem obvious, especially with a backup goalie, but there's no doubt that Bednar turtled the bottom part of the 2nd and the first part of the 3rd, and Sutter did the exact same thing (and totally blew the series).

People don't understand how terrible Edmonton's defense is. They've had to outscore all their problems to get here.

Nurse and f***ing Cody Ceci is a top pairing in the WCF. How in the hell did this happen. McDavid has to pull super hero level shit to make up for that, and none of it will matter if Mike Smith can't finally figure out the Avalanche.

Happened because of the Pacific division, because of the divisional format somebody had to make it out of that division. Nurse/Ceci/Barrie/Keith makes me wanna vomit. Oilers fans still in denial about being in the worst division in hockey, this series is gonna be a reality check.

There narrative that it’s not about “Control” and it’s about “Touch” is also wrong. To the letter of the rule, it states that touches and ATTEMPTS at touch’s are treated the same way. How can anyone read the rule book and go on with this bullshit Touch narrative.

And you were in the worst division in the cap era last year and managed to win 3 games.

If you like goals, this is the team to watch

have to hand it to Colorado fans also, that arena was on fire. Great atmosphere
Have to think that played on the oilers, they’ve never seen an atmosphere like that… probably intimidated them as they’ve never been in a situation where the crowd was loud.
I’ll be back to quote this when it’s a good series and we aren’t “swept” like most think we will be.
You’re victim complex and whining are on par with both teams defences. Less than 6% of posters have a sweep for Avs and I haven’t seen one analyst call for one. But yea, “most” think it we’ll be…

They literally play in Edmonton my dude.

As is always the case after a game 1, this thread is full of positively scintillating takes, but this one takes the cake.

…. And that is the joke my dude.

There are a lot of oil fans claiming that home crowds, specifically for them, are some big advantage. Hence the tongue in cheek comment.
They can be, I think that it's a big reason why Carolina was, until game 7, so successful.

They played like ass and still put up a touchdown.

Glad to see we can agree that home crowds, while causing some energy don’t really have much effect on players.

I'm still kind of shocked that the Avs spent assets on Manson. It looked like he was trying to do his dad's team a solid last night

It is clearly explained that the play is onside by the NHL in the Offside Rules video at 6:15.
