The rule on offside sucks but that was not offsides it’s clearly a goal. Oiler fans move on you still let 8 goals in.

At the end of the day it’s two very good teams going at it

Same with Edmonton and Calgary. It blows my mind that people seem to think they know everything after game 1 you know? We beat Calgary 4 games to 1. That doesn’t make me think they aren’t a superior team. It is what it is. People like to use their labels though. It’s funny
Barely scraped by the kings and then the Calgary series was an anomaly as markstrom just folded. I don’t agree and think Edm is on same level of Avs just a fortunate turn of events and a weak division. Gotta be good to be lucky though and Mcdavid more often than not is the best player on the ice for both teams. Edm defense and goaltending is not it though. I want them to win for that poor little boy who has brutal brain cancer who really never had his life start and seems to genuinely care about the team but I wouldn’t hold my breathe.

I’m less confident after game 1 than I was before. Avs might be in trouble if Kuemper is out long terms. What’s up with goalies falling apart everywhere this playoff?

His cap hit will more than Makar, Hedman and Josi. 😂

That’s not how it works. What if Kuemper plays how he usually does, and/or doesn’t get hurt?
You’re just proving my point even further. It’s one game!!!!! Exactly. Keumper didn’t play good either. There were times the oilers looked bad and then very good and same with Colorado. I know we are fans and we base our opinion off one game all the time.

Hell one period of play against Calgary and everyone had us being swept lmao. It was a fantastic game last night. I’ll be back to quote this when it’s a good series and we aren’t “swept” like most think we will be.

It’s clear that Colorado is further along in their contending period, they’re deeper and as a team they have more playoff experience.
We’ve seen growth from the Oilers, they used to fold like a cheap tent at any sign of adversity but this year they’ve started to hang in there when things don’t go right and they find ways to climb back into games. Getting better at not getting too low game to game and shift to shift but they’re clearly still struggling with the opposite. Too many times this post season they’ve scored a goal only to give it right back, need to tighten that up and learn to go right back to work shift after shift. In the meantime maybe Woodcroft looks at putting together a veteran line that he can throw out there after a goal for, guys that he knows he can trust to not give one right back.

There was a play where the puck was behind his net and he skated away from it and just let Landeskog have it. I was legit confused as to what he was doing.

I’m not sure it’s injured related unless it’s a head injury.
Well he's always injured in the head.
Now he supposedly has a hernia.

I don't know how Woody thinks playing him is better than a lesser paid but uninjured player.

One thing I will say. The Oil can outscore their problems.

Not that the ‘80s Oilers had a lot of shortcomings, but this version reminds me of them in the sense they can score at will and are never really out of a game.

it's injury related if he's second guessing what he is capable of. I'm on the fence on it. They might be saying it's his injury just because it's a convenient excuse. It's safe to say he has been a lot better than this in the past. He used to carry the team in minutes and now he's not even at the top. We'll see how he does next game, but if we are getting some similar performances from him and a couple others, we should start thinking of sitting guys, or in Nurse's case, going with 7 D and tanking his minutes if he doesn't sit.

Avs won period 1&2. Oilers won period #3. Avalanche outshot oilers period 1&2. Oilers outshot, outmuscled 🤨 avalanche in period #3. Looks to be good series. Expect game six or game 7.

Sometimes I agee with that comment.
Avs outshot the Oilers 16-10 in the third.

Oilers probably outplayed them in the 2nd though.

I respect your opinion. That’s what makes us great fans. I also disagree. Smith will rebound. The defense wasn’t good but they haven’t been all year. The offense is elite enough in my opinion to carry this team assuming we get some solid goaltending like we have. Smith was bad in game one against Calgary and rebounded. I trust he will do the same against Colorado. I’m not saying they are totally on the level of Colorado. I’m saying this is two very good teams and anyone that thinks we will be swept is wrong. This series will go at least 6 if not 7.

Also, scraping by LA is true but they always play us tough. Always have and always will. Quick was outstanding in the playoffs. I know goaltending very well trust me. He was absolutely on his game. Oilers problem in most of that series is they shot low, and Quick is the most flexible goaltender in the entire league he makes those stops all the time!

The shots were high in favour of the kings but most were garbage shots and not high quality. Kings have a much better team than fans give them credit for. I was expecting a tight series, as I was with Calgary and as I am with Colorado.

It’s the playoffs. It’s the best of the best teams that make it. Only team that looked pretty bad was the Preds, and if they had their starting goalie in they probably take a couple in that series as well.

Just my opinion.

One no goal and should have not been given an assist on the Kadri goal.

Point is, neither team is going to win many games giving their opposition that many goals.

I didn't mind the underlying metrics overall though I would like things to slow down a bit. Anytime you outshoot the opposition by 10, you're doing alright. But the Avs do have a tendency to dominate game 1's before laying eggs in games 2/3. Edmonton was the opposite last series. Overall, I'm not sure game 1 tells us much of anything about the series moving forward.

I appreciate the Avs can win that type of game against the Oilers, but I hope game 2 is more normal, especially if we can get a lead. The trailing team is always going to be happy to play a little fire wagon hockey and trade chances. Koskinen did a really good job of not letting the game get away from the oilers in the 3rd. They gave up some pretty decent chances and he bailed them out.
Yeah, the Avs failing to even look like they were trying to lock things down after they went up by 4 has to be concerning for Avs fans at this point. Even Gretzky called out the defense at the intermission for jumping up to make it a 4-on-2 rush while they were up by 4.

The Avs defensemen are definitely better offensively than Edmonton's, but the coach needs to remind them what their main job is. They could've won that game easily if the defense kept their shit together even a little. The breakaways they gave up despite having guys back were brutal.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but it's outrageous that the Oilers scored 6 goals in back to back opening games of a series and lost both by a combined 5 goals...

Also, put me in the camp of what Draisaitl is doing injured is the most impressive thing about these playoffs. What a beast.
