Like I said, I don't want to hear about "bad 80s goalies" ever again. This was putrid.

I thought it was off-side.

Both offenses are fantastic though and a pleasure to watch. The 80s are back! :D

IMO, that was not entertaining hockey. I had anxiety watching that game. Non-existent defense and goaltending, an offside that has been offside since I'm 5 years old, is suddenly onside.
It's going to be interesting what happens when one of these teams meet Tampa? in the finals.

As someone who is in the eye healthcare business...it's totally possible that this is from the stick in the first round. Sometimes the cornea gets like a mini fracture, which will result in a real fracture (water gets into the cornea, results in blurry vision) later on, which appears to be coming out of nowhere.

I just hope it´s nothing serious.

Oops seems the same Oilers can score 4+ on a "good team", not just the pathetic easy Pacific teams. I don't have time to quote the 1k bad takes on this forum, just lol.

Loved that both backups came in, Oilers chaos, and another 14 goals scored. Still great discipline from both teams. Avs avoiding the box was huge for them, but the style of game is Oilers Hockey which is ideal for Edmonton.

Congrats on scoring 4+..... Getting 8 in the own net doesn´t help in that department, but hey, at least a "moral victory". :D

14 goals and all 4 goalies in action.... I bet we wont see that again anytime soon. Just insane. :laugh:

I really doubt we will see this "style of game" for the upcoming games either. The Oilers and AVS will make their adjustments.. They have to...

What a slop fest. Still entertaining though. Get the immediate reaction for being butt-hurt by a questionable call in the middle of the game but the mental gymnastics by Oilers fans to continue to play up this “nobody believes in us”, “we have the Avs right where we want them, our plan was to lose this game”, “we so out played the Avs even though we are this team of misfits card” is getting a little ridiculous.

- There’s literally a poll on this thread with over a thousand votes and it is 60/40 - this hardly makes the Oilers “the little team nobody believes in”.

- I’m not sure Woodcroft or McDavid would agree that “the Oilers have the Avs right where they want them”. This isn’t last round, the Avs aren’t the Flames and to insinuate that a loss to start the series leaves you in a good place against the top team in the West all year is some kind of hubris.

- While both teams had their moments good and bad, the idea that the Oilers played the Avs off the ice last night other than a single goal that shouldn’t have counted is simply ludicrous. Credit to the Oilers for sticking with it, that defintiely was impressive when they could have folded shop - but I’d say the Avs were value for the win at the end of the night.

Series is still very much in the balance - but I’d rather be the team up 1-0 and no, I don’t believe Smith was playing possum on purpose to tank game one, hand the Avs the win and then go on to repeat the Calgary series because that’s some sort of big brain strategy.

What happened to the days of intense playoff hockey where everything is tight. I like goals
..but the league has become a lacrosse league with its scoring at this point

Edmonton team is truly build to only play offense.

Surprised how bad Colorado looked as well defensively considering they have 3 1D’s
Colorado limited Edmonton to 24 scoring chances in this game while totalling 40 of their own. Tampa Bay for an example is averaging 23.3 scoring chances against per game.

The difference in why you might look at a Tampa game and think they played great defence and then look at last nights Colorado game and think they played bad defence is the goaltending.

I think the defence was fine especially considering the type of game the two teams were playing, it was the reason Colorado carried the play to the degree that they did even without Girard.

For another example, the Colorado defence (and Mackinnon gets a ton of credit here as well) limited McDavid to a CF% of 41.8% and a SCF% of only 35.38%. If that level of domination continues Edmonton will be in a really rough spot.

While the overall scoring chances favoured the AVS, the grade A scoring chancing and xgf were pretty even

I wonder how the high scoring west teams will do vs Tampa/NYR (Most likely Tampa) who have elite goalies and espescially Tampa can also shut things down defensively while they have scoring threats themselves.

And people complain about the Rangers winning their two series against Domingue and Raanta.

I guess the WCF winner won't actually have a worthy series victory either by the same standards.

Oilers' Dynasty teams' playoff offence vs. the 2022 club so far:

1984 = 4.95
1985 = 5.44
1987 = 4.14
1988 = 4.58
1990 = 4.23
2022 = 4.46

So, they're outscoring the '87 and '90 teams so far, and basically matching the '88 team.

Now, if only they could get some defence...

I’m not sure I would go that far, the xGF% for the Oilers was 45.22%. The worst teams in the entire league this year were ARI and CBJ at 42.8 and 45.2% respectively. That’s a significant difference in hockey.

I appreciate the Avs can win that type of game against the Oilers, but I hope game 2 is more normal, especially if we can get a lead. The trailing team is always going to be happy to play a little fire wagon hockey and trade chances. Koskinen did a really good job of not letting the game get away from the oilers in the 3rd. They gave up some pretty decent chances and he bailed them out.

Did you even read the original post and responses between me and the poster I quoted? If so, you'd be able to figure it out for yourself.

Like I said in the original post, the fact that the Oilers are in the series is offensive to some people. You and the previous poster are proving my point.
? Don’t you have to win at least a game or two make this claim. With the parity in this league any team can beat anyone But I still don’t see the Avs needing more than 5 games to advance. But Francour may the equalizer.

To me the Oilers top players have been incredible. But after the top guys the rest of their team is very meh.
