As long as they let players play and police the junk against the star players on both teams there should be no issues. I hate it when refs decide to become a part of the game and randomly call marginal hooks or whatever on fourth liners or every 16th crosscheck in front of the net.
Too bad Sammy G is hurt. I know everyone wanted to see him fight Yamamoto

Agree with you about the momentum. They just won 4 games in a row, let's see how long that continues until they put up a stinker. I'd be surprised if the Avs would lose this series in 5 games but you never know.

One thing I will say about the Avs this season as opposed to years past, is that they are more even-keeled than they used to be. In the past, a game #5 loss in the manner in which it happened would have sent them spiraling down into an abyss of self-loathing and then they'd start to play poorly. No longer. They came right back, played their game and took the play to STL.

Should be a great series no matter what!

I think both of these teams have their star players maturing at the same time... the Avs with more higher end value contracts (for now) and thus the greater depth... not to mention a great pick with Makar at 4OA.

Also a very key trade the Avs made that the Oilers could have also made... the Oilers traded two 2nd round picks for Athanasiou at the same TDL that the Avs traded two 2nd round picks for Toews. If the Oilers have Toews, then don't trade for Keith. Man, Holland is such a clown. Why can't the Oilers hire competent management... Katz is willing to spend, but doesn't know how to spend it wisely.

yada yada yada
Happy to be proven wrong. I root for the Leafs first and foremost, but I don’t hate the Oilers and seeing Canada’s ridiculous Cup drought ending would be really nice. I just think Colorado is the clear Juggernaut out west this season.

Not that I'm an expert on escrow or anything, but hockey players love hating on the big bad escrow that they agreed to in their contracts.
Escrow is the current wrinkle not allowing greater increases in the salary cap I believe. So yes, players do hate it

Man this thread has me really depressed. I'm not looking forward to seeing the Oilers absolutely curb stomp the poor pathetic Avs like this.

Anyone got a towel I can throw in? Will you spare our families if we surrender now?
Under 2% of the votes have Edmonton in 4. The inferiority complex is obvious once people start betting against your team.

Oilers have the best player and the better goalie. It goes the distance but McDrai and Smith get the Oilers to the Cup Final. Where they will lose to Vasileski.

I don't think anyone will convincingly choose Smith as the best goalie in a series. Oof.

Exactly my thinking as well. Likewise with Byram (and Girard for that matter) being best to pair with a guy like Manson.

I would currently have it as:

1 - McDavid
2 - MacKinnon
3 - Draisaitl (clearly injured)
4 - Kane
5 - Kadri
6 - Landeskog
7 - Rantanen (he’s been a disappointment this playoffs)
Hyman has been better than Kadri, Lando and Rant.

Injured Drai has looked better by the game and has been better than MacKinnon.

Also. Kane has been better than MacKinnon as well.

That may be, but if I was building a top line with McDavid tommorrow I would take MacKinnon over Draisaitl. You’re free to disagree, but that’s how I ultimately see it.
Bad take, Drai complements McDavid perfectly. Why would you want an inferior MacKinnon making zone entries when you can have the best player in the League doing it? Then when in the zone Drai is the best passe in the league and might have the best puck protection in the league as well as a much better shot then MacKinnon.

The only thing MacKinnon has on Drai is straight line speed.

Cool. Thanks for sharing your Draisaitl boner with the class.

All Draisaitl has that is superior to MacKinnon is his shot.

If Kadri were to get himself suspended somehow in this series, how would that affect his chances at a great pay day?
Doubt it would. Some GM would still value that "Truculence"
