As bad as Kuemper was he's still miles better than Smith.

As an Oilers' fan, this has so far been the most gratifying playoff since 1990.

1990 had an amazing series vs. Winnipeg, a good one against Chicago, and of course there was the whole 'Win without Gretzky!' narrative that made it very special.

The 1991-run was great, but losing to 68-point Minnesota was sad, and the whole year was the last-gasp of the Dynasty. The 1992-run was like another team entirely with all the Hall of Famers gone, and there wasn't the same drama.

The plucky 1997 and 1998 teams were lovable, but they were lower-talented underdogs who won one series.

2006 I mostly missed, as I was living in a sub-tropical country without high-speed internet at the time. Also, I never felt that club was an "Oilers" team, good as they were. They were just a well-constructed NHL team. 2017 was just a coming-out party for McDavid and Drai, but I never felt they were really in contention.

An "Oilers" team has to have some offensive jam, some attack, some excitement. The current club has that!!

I have no idea what'll happen in the upcoming series, but I am sure it's going to be entertaining. Even if the Oilers lose, I feel very satisfied with this season... the most satisfied I've been in 32 years.

Except, it literally is decided by each series. The Oilers are literally in the WCF. The precedent for playoff hockey is dictated every time two different teams meet.

In the 2022 playoffs, Mike Smith - while prone to the odd ridiculous mistake - has a 0.927 save percentage. Your 25 years of "watching playoff hockey" doesn't supersede what actually happens on the ice.

Ultimately, I do get what you're saying in terms of confidence in our goaltender - but the fact remains, the Oilers have a chance to upset the Avs and if it's run and gun like it was in round 2, the series could be closer than you expect.
Again, no it isnt. By way of example, the worst or best team in the regular season is judged both by the standards of that season and historically. The playoffs are no different. The playoff standard in the Oilers-Flames series was worse than anything I’ve ever seen in the playoffs. Just because it’s the standard this season does not mean it isn’t an outlier in terms of quality (or lack thereof) vis-a-vis the playoffs historically. Usually there’s at least one team who has a great defense or great goaltending. Neither side had either. It wasn’t up to par. By a historical margin.

This season is nothing more than a testament to the statistically-backed assertion that hockey success is the least reliant on talent/skill and the most susceptible to luck. This year, the Western Conference got the luck.

Now you're just strangely rambling.
I’m sorry you struggle with reading comprehension.

Cringe posts don’t require a response let alone a substantive one. Your lucky you even got one.
Oof. Talk about cringe.

We will see a new breed of player come 10-15 years because if this series in my opinion. Guys didn’t skate like this decades ago. Should be a great series

We have heard Edmonton fans go on and on about how they played the Avs close during the regular season. Now is their chance to put their money where their mouth is.

Should be good

Again, the Flames were the 3rd best defensive team in the league and had a Vezina candidate goaltender. The Oilers beat them and if you want to attribute that solely to luck go right ahead, but if your justification is "I've watched 25 years of playoff hockey," I'm sorry, I won't buy into that garbage.

In reality, they ran into a generational talent at the top of his game and a supporting cast that all produced like they were supposed too (and may remain hot moving into the next series). More credit should go to the Oilers than is being given to them.

As an Avs fan. Mcdavid and company scare me. Kuemper has been bad while smith has been decent. If smith goes in a run it could smell trouble for the Avs

That said, smith was the ONLY reason the flames were in any game in 2019 against the Avs. They eventually broke him

Rantanen needs to get his head out of his ass to do his thing. If not oilers have a mucho better chance

Congrats to the Avs for winning and getting over the hump!

I am going with EDM in 7. As a neutral fan COL should be the favourites here but I just hope if we win or lose it goes 7 games. A superstar matchup like this should be entertaining. Plus just hope our home fans can see some wins on this stage again.

Ultimately I think we match COL fine on forwards. Goaltending for both is shaky but granted if Mike Smith comes out we might edge out COL there. We don't have Makar though and the COL D-group should be be the better guys. Ultimately COL should take it but I think if Mike Smith plays well you never know.
User name and claim of being a neutral fan don’t check out……..

I’m excited!! And less stressed than the Flames series because there are no bragging rights if we lose to a non rival.

Hope we have a good clean series!!

Avalanche are going to need Rantanen and Burakovsky to pull their heads out of their asses for this series.

Mikko picks up points well but man does he just stand around and dog f*** a lot for an elite player. Move your feet! Burakovsky might be one of the most frustrating top 6 talents I've ever watched. Makar has another level too, hopefully he can hit it. Nichushkin, Kadri, and Lehkonen I would have to imagine draw the bulk of McDavid duty. Also, whatever you do Bednar, do not put Jack Johnson in.

welcome oilers fans here’s to hopefully a wonderful series and I hope wonderful discussions take place that aren’t train wrecked by delusional fans like what happened with the blues series. I’ve got the Avs in 6.

There are a lot of salty flames and toronto fans following the Oilers closely, its guaranteed to be worse then the blues series in that regard
