This thread is now eerily reminiscent of the VAN-EDM thread after the Oilers went down 3-2, when many wrote the Oilers off entirely. A lot of fans are yet again treating game 5 as if it was game 7. The series isn't over, each game lives a life of its own. No doubt the Oilers put the choke on Dallas to get within a victory of moving on, but let's not pretend that the Stars are beaten.

EDM has looked too good at home all postseason, I doubt they do not close this out. Florida who has been better on the road is another story

It's definitely not over, but I think the last 5'ish periods by the Oilers have been extremely dominant stretch in what was otherwise a very close series. Stars do look like they're on the ropes and will need to regroup here, whereas Oilers/Canucks was back and forth the whole way.

The good news for the Oilers is they've only lost 2 games in a row once these playoffs. That bad news is that it was against Dallas.

Sorry again, off topic question:

If I would buy (on Ticketmaster) a Game 3 or 4 final ticket with location in Edmonton and that game doesn't happen do I get my money back or what exactly happens?
Or do I lose the 200$ fees only?
Are those games forsale on ticketmaster already?

I'm a supporter of the Oilers, but why are people talking as if this series was done and the Oilers just won their 4th game?
Their hardest task is yet to come in game 6, where they will play a furious Stars line-up and have to finish off the series.

Does someone have the numbers on how many 3:2 leads went to game 7 compared to 4:2 series wins?

I don't know how serious this is, that's why I am asking.
I'm guessing they won't be available on ticketmaster until after they win this round, if they win. So game 3 and 4 would be a sure thing at that point. Ticketmaster would return the full amount for any game not played. Most legit sites return the full amount for games not played

I think it's a bit over 50%, but overall a team that goes up 3-2 ends up taking the series 80% of the time.

Having said that, the Oilers have obviously seen that a 3-2 lead guarantees nothing as recently as the previous round.

The Stars are a strong road team and will likely come out and play their best game of the season. The Oilers are gonna do the same. It's gonna be a tight one.

Wise words, and while I'm not sure of all of NHL historical numbers, do know teams coming back from 2-3 down is far from impossible. My favorite team, Lightning, are 4-6 when down 2-3 in a series. So Lighting are just short of winning 1/2 their playoff series when down 2-3 historically.

Curious to see how much Stars have left in-the-tank after playing very tough Western playoff road to this point. Who knows, Stars might get their 3rd or 4th wind these next game(s). One never knows what kind of response one gets from a capable, experienced, and desperate team. That 4th win is the toughest to get, but even tougher when team aren't that far apart like this series. Hoping McDavid can win a "Stanley Cup" eventually, this might be his best chance right now. OIlers defensive play has been biggest surprise for me from Oilers this postseason, that has been biggest difference maker when considering if Oilers are legit "Cup" contenders. McD is amazing player, and with this yrs team, he just might have enough of a supporting cast to get it done. Still loads of work to go for all that though, like you're wise post points out.

Good luck and enjoy the ride..... :)

Seguin mentioned how much travel there's been in this series. I do wonder if it's adversely affecting the vets who might not be used to this.

Lots of redeye flights with the sun blaring in your face till 1am due to how far north Edmonton is.

Dallas young players are buzzing, but their greybeards look gassed.

Well, I'm on Oilers bag wagon. And wish them the Stanley CUP. That will close the Mathews vs McDavid comparaison.

Also, they are so fun to watch. It is all in type of hockey. Hope their netter don't play garbage.

Oilers is also a nice place to bring back the SC in Canada.

This is IMO, surely a additional challenge for teams playing in the west.

Lol 1am - they aren't playing in yellownkife in late June. Sunset in Edmonton at this time of year is around 9:45-10:00pm which is pretty much 1 hour and a bit later than MTL, TO etc...

Yeah poor central teams and their travel. Pacific definitely doesn’t have it harder all year

To think Broberg could've like be had for a late 2nd or maybe even a 3rd a couple months ago.
No he couldn't. Holland himself said he wasn't trading him. Broberg was frustrated over sitting on the bench and asked for a trade. Holland sat down and talked with him and he was sent to the AHL where he played on the top pairing. Broberg will replace Nurse in a few years.

Sunset that late must be weird. Sun is setting in Boston/NY at about 8:15pm, while it goes down at 9:55pm in Edmonton.

Edm has the second oldest team in the league and they have been okay. Dallas is third. Poor excuse by Seguin plus he’s in the West. He’s been a part of the western travel for many years. Lol.

In case people forgot how old Skinner actually is he reminded us that his favorite player growing up was... Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
In 20 years we are going to see him at the hockey analysts table inbetween periods and think that the panel must be interviewing this kid that just got drafted.

Nugent Hopkins is the Dick Clark of the NHL.

I went to my cousin's wedding in Edmonton in July of 2008 and I remember heading back to where we were staying at around 10:25PM (mountain time) and there was still a bit of sunlight left. It was an interesting feeling. In Ontario all year round by 9:00PM (if not before) it's pretty much dark

This is what humans do, including many here to at one time or another. Humans come up with possible reasons to why this or that haven't worked out. The question is: would fans rather any player/team say this -vs- Having player come off with negative mentality of they're toast, they're not good enough, and no matter what they do they don't control own fate. More than not, humans will grab any rope to help cope with failure. If having excuses like this one helps team believe they still controls their destiny. What's the big deal? What do fans want Seguin to say....."Yeah, our team just doesn't have the goods no matter what tangibles are at play here, they're going to beat us silly moving forth". Would love for a player to say that, just to see fans/media reactions. Anyways, not a fan of excuse making all-the-time, but when teams/players are trying to deal with coming up short in real time. All that makes it easier to understand why anyone would gravitate towards any belief that helps them believe team can overcome it. Those who've never come up excuses, throw that 1st stone and all that jive.....

There was never a comparison.
