Compared to the World Cup and the Olympics this is tier two

uh...i know the horrendous bitterness is probably drunkening you into saying such ridiculous things, but the "world cup of hockey" is considered much more of a "tier 2" event than the world championships. it's not even an internationally sanctioned event.

of course, if this had been the olympics or the WCOH, you'd be validating the loss in some other way, so i'm wasting the keystrokes humbling you.

I'll be disappearing until the next big tourney. Just wanted to say congrats to the Czech team. The outplayed us in every aspect of the game, and fully deserved to win the gold.

And I love the guy, but Ryan Smyth should be stripped of any chance to wear the C after that lumberjack display. He didn't look like captain material to me.

I'm proud of our boys for doing their best - just didn't have the horses. We'll be back..... :)

Congratulations to the Czech team and their fans. Very good game and they beat Canada with enough clearance to leave no doubt about who was the better team.

That would be great for you, if you could ice more then one team.. :shakehead

Canada's best team would look like...

Todd Bertuzzi - Mario Lemieux - Martin St. Louis
Brad Richards - Joe Sakic - Jarome Iginla
Ryan Smyth - Vincent Lecavalier - Shane Doan
Rick Nash - Joe Thornton - Simon Gagne

Chris Pronger - Scott Niedermayer
Rob Blake - Adam Foote
Wade Redden - Eric Brewer

Martin Brodeur
Roberto Luongo

IMO that is unbeatable.

and they all played well ... every team had the same chance to get their best players ... every team made their best teams (at the time) so i see no need to differentiate between Team A and Team B. Ifs and Buts ... yadda yadda yadda.

hey, whatever helps ya sleep at night.

meanwhile, the czechs beat my team(the one that the guy...shoot, i forgot his name already, pointed out didn't 'even make it to the semis') and i'm happy for them. the better team won.

i didn't need to go on and on about how roenick, tkachuk, gomez, mara etc etc weren't there.

everyone was missing significant names. blaming the loss on it is both sad and pathetic, not to mention revoltingly unsportsmanlike.

To my fellow Canadian fans: stop making excuses, all the teams in this tourney were missing key players. We lost, accept it.

If Brodeur wasn't solid and many of the forwards who missed out on hockey this season were equally as shaky AND defenseman like Regehr and Jovo looked terrible, how can you be so confident that their replacements, players who spent more time on their couch this season than on the ice, will be unbeatable. Surely you learned your lesson. Your Canadian team, one who despite many absentees was still very, very impressive on paper (especially goaltending and D-core), looked very shaky for the better part of the tournament and, without key performances from Thornton and Nash, would have likely been very disappointing.

They lost to the better team, and I'm not so sure that the additions of many D-man and forwards who didn't do much in the way of hockey this season would make them champions.

At least you guys got a medal. My team is stuck wondering if it was top 5.

I'm tired of people talking about all the players Canada was missing. Even with all those players electing not to come, they still had the deepest team at this tournament. Canada should have won this thing. However, the game is not played on paper and the Czechs cleary wanted it more. (Probably still feeling the sting of going out to the US on home ice last year.)

Congrats to them. I don't think there's any shame in Canada taking home a silver medal after two straight golds. I also don't think it's fair to start ripping into the Canadian players who had poor tournaments. At least they decided to show up.

The above looks a lot like the team in the WCH2004 last September...and it got totally outplayed by the Czechs in the semifinal, only to escape with a lucky goal (as Pat Quinn admitted). How is that unbeatable? Please...

Anyways, congrats to both teams for a good final! The best team won IMO.

And I am proud that the Finns tied both teams on regulation time ;)

I never made excuses, but I will state that only 2 of their 7 defenseman would have played on the team if we could have chosen from everyone.

Excuses aside, the Czechs were the best team in the tournament.

Couch training is pretty effective! :D

I was surprised that Canada actually made it as far as they did....b/c their defensive zone coverage and defensive play overall was pretty awful IMO. Having a chance to play for a gold medal was an accomplishment.

If we are on the subject of Canada's "best" team.... I would do:

Lemieux - Sakic - Iginla
Gagne - Thornton - Nash
Bertuzzi - Lecavalier - Heatley
Draper - Madden - Doan

but thats beside the point. :)

Um, they won the game. They also dominated the tournament. They did not come even somewhat close to losing a single game minus the one against the Czechs. Every other game they blew the other team out of the water. They were not beaten, so they very well may be called unbeatable.
