I don´t see the competitive in Smyth´s action. If he had thrown a really hard check or something else but he acts like a coward.

If it was me, and I had some guy's stick in my balls, I'd probably decapitate him.

I agree. You could also see by the way the Czech reacted that they didn't see it as a overly dirty play. Just someone loosing it...

If Smyth wanted to injury someone he wouldn't have whacked at someones skates.
Ryan Smyth wasn't dirty that's for sure. He just lost his mind and gave multiple little slashes. Still, it was pathetic.

Pretty awful game. I didn't know if I was watching hockey or rugby.

The better team won though that's for sure.

Czech A team is definetely better then Canada's B team.

Hats off to the Czechs on the big win. You were the better team the whole game and had limited difficulty shutting down our guys. Absolutely dominating display of discipline, and D the whole tournament. Nice to see an Edmonton Oiler, Dvorak, get the winner against Sweden. Hemskys play also gives me some hope.
Hard to be an Oiler fan and see Smytty doing this....Fischer was so good throughout in clearing Nash, Smyth, out he attracted attention. Classy move on his part not really wanting to respond to Smyth.

Again congratulations and enjoy the great, and well deserved victory!

"Among the toughest of all athletes are the offensive linemen in the NFL. Their job is to protect the quarterback, so their team can keep moving the chains toward the goal line. When the opponent punches them, steps on their hands, calls them names or spits in their face -- the offensive linemen don't retaliate, because the penalty would be too damaging to the team.

This is genuine toughness."

See? Who´s the tougher one? Smyth or Fisher?

I knew this would happen. Canada's lucky series of wins (it's a fact) had to end, and today was the day. Although Canada never gave up! But today they just faced a better team, the Czech Republic, and tonight, I am proud of my Czech half! :D

My pessimism was rewarded! Jsme mistřííííííííííííííííííííííííííí!!! (we're the champions). Hoši děkujem! (thank you guys). :handclap:

Streets are filled with singing, drunk fans in czech dresses waving czech flags, many of them can't even speak, coz their voice is failing. This is a great day, we've waited so long for it!!

It was not luck, like it wasn't for the Czechs.

My two cents are that Morrison is not a winner perhaps. Just like Markus Näslund. Those dudes never stands up in the stanley cups either nor the national team(well, Markus has always been HORRIBLE in the nationa team). And Morrison was really poor in the playoffs in SEL this year as well.

Näslund have not always been horrible. Honestly I think allot of Swedish fans needs to do their homework when it comes to judging players on the nationalteam the last 14 years.

Everyone compares Näslund and Co. with the myth of Forsberg& Sundin. Sundin for example was not a dominating player in 91´, far from it. He scored three really important goals, thats a fact. But he had nothing in the final game against the Soviets except his goal.

Look at Forsberg in 94'. Honestly Forsberg was pretty dissapointing in that tournament. His final against Canada was far from impressive, as a matter of fact had Roger Hansson scored on his penalty shoot people might have had a hard time to even remember that Forsberg where on that team...

Allot of people seems to remember that Sundin and Forsberg carried Tre Kronor to gold and that every other player who doesn't do that from now on is a failure. IMO every time we have won gold its been bacause of great team efforts more then individual efforts.

And what about Näslund in the 99' WCH? Forsberg have IMO only performed better then what Näslund did for the national team in 99´ twice. In the WCH 98' and in the WC 96'.

The Czechs derserved to win today. They simply had the better team. Hopefully we will see a re-match at the Olympics with NHL players. But I doubt that will happen. I guess the next big matchup will be in Latvia!

It would have been an ugly championships if Canada managed to win the way they played.. Czechs were great. By far the better team in this tournament..

Tier two? You don't get an awful lot better than what this tournament has to offer. So a couple of big names for Canada declined the invite to play; big deal. This tournament was still world class, top tier hockey.

Compared to the World Cup and the Olympics this is tier two

Not for most nations. I don't know if it is for us, either. This is a world class event.

Sweden and Russia are not complaining although if we did, we'd have much more to say than Canada, because in fact we missed a lot more players
!

Canada: Iginla, Lecavalier, St.Louis, Niedermayer, Pronger, Lemieux, Sakic, Bouwmester, Brewer, Richards, (Karyia), (Bertuzzi), (Theodore), (Yzerman) and the list goes on...

Russia & Sweden have a longer list than that... i wanna see the lists...with good players...

oh jeez, not again ...

the only thing I'm gonna say is that Russia played with it's 4th goalie, and only Andrei Markov would have been part of the defense if everyone agreed to play
