Good stat for Ovechkin but the team has to get MUCH better as a team

I'm really disappointed by Russia so far. They are always attacking with only three players as the defense is almost not involved in the play, even on the power play, and only the Datsyuk - Kovalev - Kharitonov line had some good passing play. On the other hand, I'm not impressed by Austria. Apart from the goal, they couldn't create any scoring opportunity.

Exactly. But I'm surprised because that's not how Russia played against Sweden last week. This team looks slower, not very creative in the offensive zone.

We'll see what's it gonna be like in the 2nd period.

Pretty clear broadcast but a couple of 2s pauses during the first period. On the other hand, it takes some time to see the puck becuase resolution is average. I'm sure the quality of the downloaded versions of the games will be better though...

I think Russia really is able to put pressure on Austria. There was hope that we could start some breakaways and just that has happened. It just took a few minutes for the austrian players to get used to wc hockey and i think they are battling hard and do their best within their limitations. should continue to be an interesting game.
 
Now that he's scored a short-handed goal (against a second-tier goalie) on the breakaway, who's going to hype Kharitonov?

actually, he's had several good offensive plays already this game.
 
That was an obvious penalty. How can the ref not see it with Gusev's stick stuck in the Austrian player's pants ?

EDIT : and a bad call to compensate. IIHF referees are back...
 
the ref is horrible.

first he doesn't do anything against the russians attacking brückler, now he doesn't give an obvious hooking call.
 
still 2-1 Russia
