ovechkin and kovalchuk played really poor in my opinion. if ovechkin didn't missed the first shot he wouldn't have scored the goal. if there would be just this game i would say they are average players at their best.
I agree totally.

And I have no grudge against them. It's just how the game went.

Brückler deserved the award for best austrian player, he held the team in the game in the first period singlehandedly with 18 saves. Not sure why you are saying the thrid goal was his seeing that the russian player got to shoot from 3 meters in front of him...

He played an awesome game as did Setzinger. But like so often the austrian team collapses in the last few minutes of a game against a big nation.

i totally agree to this. brückler was really good out there and he saved a few big chances. i think with divis in goal we wouldn't be better. that austria collapses in the the last minute is just the fact that they have to work more than the big nations to stay in the game. our skating is just one class weaker. there are just setzinger, kalt, trattnig, kaspitz and welser who have the same class as the russians. koch, vanek and pöck also have but they are injured or in the playoffs.

Russia - Austria 4-2 (1-1,1-0,2-1)

10.10 1-0 Ovetshkin (Malkin)
15.48 1-1 Setzinger (Kalt, Viveiros) pp

23.10 2-1 Haritonov sh

47.07 2-2 Divis (Unterluggauer)
56.18 3-2 Kovalev (Markov)
59.51 4-2 Kovaltshuk en

Goalies
Sokolov RUS 5+11+ 5=21
Brückler AUT 15+ 7+10=32

Brückler did a great job, but i think a goal through the legs, when he even seemed to save it already, you have to give to the goalie. given, unterluggauers failed clearing attempt was the cause of this goal.

I'm completely happy with Brücklers play but I think Setzinger has stepped up this time and has shown what he can do. He is a really dangerous offensive player, finishes his checks and works hard defensively. His performance today was world class and that's why I think he deserved the award over Brückler.

A great stick save by Brückler on a breakaway in the first...

The puck went into the goal in between the pipe and his pad and was scored on a shot a few meters away from him. You either make a tremendous save or you dont, but you can in my opinion never blame the goalie for a goal like this.

It's though, but he has denied better chances in this game...

However, he played a very good game, I don't care who's fault it was :)

I've just read Vladimir Krikunov's comments at the post game press conference, and among other things he criticized the tournament's organizers for the new arena, saying that the ice was really bad and that it was very hot inside the building.

Personnally I don't know if it was hot, but I did have the impression that the ice was bad seeing those Russian rockets like Afinogenov skate slower than my grandpa!
But it's understandable : new arena, new ice ... I'm sure some adjustements will be made.

It's old arend and earlier (2 days ago) Switzerland - Austria exhibition game was stopped cause ice was very bad. I agree that it's better to destroy on poor ice, but ice is the same for both teams and if you want to win you have to be good in every area of the game in every condiotions.

actually there have been big problems with the ice last week. Austria's test game against Switzerland on thursday had to be cut short after two periods of play since the ice broke due to faulty boards and warm temperatures. Yesterday the germans had to cancel their training because the ice wasnt ready.

The arena is no hockey arena, its a convention center that never sees ice hockey except for events like this. Its really warm inside because it is no hockey arena and thus has no sort of isolation against warm weather.

the game austria - switzerland was stopped after two periods because of the bad ice. hopefully they are able to improve the ice for the upcoming games...

really? I didn't know any of it

they better do something because SPEED is Russia's major strength!!!

So Setzinger looked good? He showed incredible talent in the rookie camp he attended a year or two ago for the Preds. He's really picked up his game in the last year and a half. Can someone describe his great play(s) in the game and give a brief description of what his game is like (most Preds fans have never seen him in a real game).

he took the puck in the defensive zone, went coast to coast, undressed 2 Russians D's and almost beat Sokolov who made a really good save

highlight reel play!

that was a big-time play. would have given austria the 3-2 lead :(

what i like most about setzinger is his gritty and hard-working style. he is responsible defensively, has break-away speed and is pretty skilled to. he also finishes his checks and plays in every game situation for austria.

I'd say his game is a good fit for an nhl third line winger.
