Maybe I've underestimated this crowd and they'll head into the deeper cuts.

I'd love Dance of the Seven Veils but they'd have to make a small edit. I haven't checked, did 6'1" or Glory place yet?
Don’t think so on either. They don’t have numerals on the drop down.

Talkin bout a Revolution, I thought this would be a top 50 or so

There are too many people responding for longshots at the top. The Top 10 in some order is going to be:

Respect
Dancing Queen
Heart of Glass
Nothing Compares 2 U
One Kate Bush song, probably RUTH but maybe Wuthering Heights
Rolling in the Deep
Son of a Preacher Man
Fast Car
Video Games
Strange Fruit

If there's an upset, it'll be something like Sweet Dreams or Like a Prayer.
Let a man dream Jojo.

Strange Fruit is off the board already at 308, so we're cooking.

Also, Fast Car was an actual magical song for my first born somehow. It would immediately calm him down no matter what the situation. It destroyed me.

Dancing Queen went off at 276

Brandi Carlile will be up there. Perhaps twice. Bonnie Raitt too.

I’m almost positive Bonnie Raitt will be top 5, maybe even #1

This is evil.

I've got Édith Piaf, Nina, Cesária Évora, Shonen Knife, Otoboke Beaver, and then I'm reaching for opera and women doing Brassens covers. Does the woman that used to sing with Leningrad until she got tired of being harassed count?

I'm imagining thousands of people turning their radios off as Renata Tabaldi or Dalida blasts through their heads.
I wouldn't be able to vote. Was just struggling to think of artists I've listened to in the past few months with non-English songs: Charlotte Adigéry, CHAI, RaiNao, Silvana Estrada, Kali Uchis, Natalia Lafourcade...

Who gets the highest placed 2nd song on the list? I'm guessing Kate Bush, but I could see Bjork or Winehouse?
I don’t know if I know what Bjork’s most well known song is to put up there, I just know a lot of them that tend to be equally well regarded.

Aretha, Brandi, Carole King, Joni, Kate Bush all in the game.

Sinead is a dark horse here, she died right before the voting opened, so there will be sympathy there.

I’m telling you on Bonnie, though. When they did the last greatest ever list (which was all-encompassing) in 2021, her version of Angel from Montgomery was the highest song by a woman at #15 (Respect was #16), and that song jumped like 400 spots from the last time they did that list 10 years before. I had never even heard it before.

There can be some fluctuation because Losing My Religion went from like 92 or something out of 885 songs to off a list with 2,021 songs 10 years later.

That's the Bonnie song I'm most worried about. Wonder if John Prine's death in mid-2021 had any sway with that voting.

Don't forget Francoise Hardy! Maybe Cap can offer some helpful suggestions about the various K/J-POP groups we should take a look at.

Probably, though it’s on some of the staff lists. Would not surprise me if its #1, and like a 95% chance it’s top 5.

I have to say I was a bit surprised Oh Bondage! Up Yours! made the list. Did a lot of the voters just stumble onto the documentary recently while looking for something to watch or was the XPN crowd always into the UK punk scene? Should I expect the Slits and The Raincoats to make an appearance?
There’s some punks who never had a place on FM radio who landed there so it’s possible that there’s enough older listeners who listen to Land of the Lost every month who voted it in.

I will mark if the Slits show up, that would be awesome.

It's always seemed like the UK scene crossed over more than the US. I consider XRS crossovers at this point.

The Slits are where you might get a straggler. It's the right kind of punk. I wouldn't think Raincoats. I look at X as the line. If they don't make it anywhere, that means no Raincoats, Plasmatics, L7, or Tilt.

This made me look through them. "Seether" is going to be way up there, isn't it?

Seether was 615

There was a brief Slits awareness movement. One day a clip of Typical Girls came through my feed, then I added it, then XPN played it like that night.

That rules, obviously. I kind of consider "Explain it to Me" and "Canary" as one song with two parts, as I can't listen to one without the other, and the latter is probably what I consider her best song. Maybe. Gun to my head, probably. But it's mostly an 18-way tie.

Video Games #235

Finally had the first Amy Winehouse
