I almost included Rebel Girl but instead I wanted to capture the Riot Grrrl movement's evolving musical ambitions by the end of the 90's. Also, One More Hour is one of my all-time favorite songs, period.

And Human Behaviour is one of the many, many songs that were and are still up for the final three slots on my list. Still trying to work these out, btw.

Edit: I think I've decided that Velvet Underground + Nico doesn't necessarily belong on this list. I reserve the right to change my mind on that.

I do feel like this needs to be on it though:

So my list at present, in chronological order:

1) Strange Fruit - Billie Holiday
2) Be My Baby - The Ronettes
3) Feeling Good - Nina Simone
4) Gloria - Patti Smith
5) Oh Bondage! Up Yours! - X-Ray Spex
6) Kool Thing - Sonic Youth
7) Rid of Me - PJ Harvey
8) f*** and Run - Liz Phair
9) One More Hour - Sleater-Kinney

I feel like I should round this out with something from this century. After much deliberation:

I’m glad someone else went there. I ended up tossing out all Nico songs too, but they went kicking and screaming. Self-titled might be the album I have heard most.

I just listened to it for the first time - it's f***ing great. I think had I been exposed to them a little earlier and more often I would have been a huge fan, because I almost always like what I hear from them.
It's even better once you discover that it's about the end of the relationship of the two people singing it.

They were the most interesting band in the world for a solid decade for their first run, and Dig Me Out is one of my all-time favorite records. Give the whole thing a listen. It's just grand slam after grand slam, with all sorts of really incredible guitar and vocal interplay, with Janet Weiss just being a f***ing monster on drums. I'm still sad she left the band.

I feel they’re missing a lot without her. Don’t get why they pushed her out.

They miss her a ton and their second run as a band has been mostly a disappointment as a result.

I mean, just look at her f***ing go:

Kinda feel it amongst the music audience. Next time they’re coming to Philly is at the TLA. Maybe smaller venues is what they want to do, or simply what they should do.

Any country ladies yet? Loretta Lynn...Dolly..etc
Can’t sort by artist so I don’t know about Loretta Lynn, i thought I heard her. No Dolly yet, which won’t last. Don’t think I’ve heard Carrie Underwood, which, this isn’t a country station but I feel like is coming.

I saw them at Union Transfer when they first came back and it was a killer show. I just not a big fan of the direction they've gone in since. Neither was Weiss, particularly since they started to sideline her instrument, which is why she's no longer in the band. They've also elevated Carrie into a co-lead singer, which would be fine except Corin Tucker has one of the most powerful voices in popular music and it makes no sense to sideline her for half an album.

Carrie and Janet tried to do their own thing and it lasted one album. I never really saw Carrie as a lead either

Down by the Water checks in at 330. Sigh. That might well be it for PJ. Meanwhile we have the entirety of Jagged Little Pill and 40 Lucinda Williams songs.
Just wait for the top 100

I'm going to be honest here. I've never really gotten all of the fuss about Joni Mitchell. Maybe it's because she inspired thousands of folky female singer-songwriters to make some of the most boring self-indulgent music possible, but I take absolutely no enjoyment from her music whatsoever.

I noticed Loretta f***ing Lynn earlier in there somewhere.
She had at least 2 songs because she has 2 of the 4 shortest so far.

She’s revered I guess similar to Bob Dylan, and this is a radio station who I believe has an audience that skews very old based on how these ‘all-time’ lists go.

Voices Carry, one of many 11’s. It’s been excruciating waiting for another one of my songs to hit though. I’ve only had 3 so far and none since Thursday morning.

Hanging on the Telephone is another. Ugh! I could’ve been up to 6 or 7 had I thought my list differently!
