I have to think about this now, but I love you for picking this. I will never forget the day I walked into Repo Records as a teenager and I heard this playing. That's the fastest I've ever ran up to a clerk to buy something.

It's spectacular, isn't it? Barking mad and awesome.

f***ing Evanescence. I feel like someone at XPN should have made an executive decision that all of the votes for that one were obvious sabotage by deranged maniacs and thus should be discarded.

@Captain Dave Poulin, "Your girl" Lizzo bested your girl Liz by a couple spots. I also think that Never Said at 418 might be Liz's high-water mark. What a sad reality we live in.

Correction: Why Can't I?, otherwise known as that time Liz got sick of not making money and decided what she really needed to do was go full Avril Lavigne, will definitely be higher on the list.

That or "Supernova."

I don't want to talk about how hard this was to figure out. No repeats of anything or anyone mentioned. Covers count. I have a special affinity for taking a song I can't stand and forcing me to change my mind.

Very specifically this understated version of Valerie, not the uptempo thing with Mark Ronson that charted. Although anything is better than the original.

In addition to Rachael Price singing, you've got Bridget Kearney killing it on the upright base.

I checked twice. There's not one Bjork song in here from any of you people, so I know the world is ending. I fixed it.

I don't like the album quite as much as some other people. Half of it is amazing, but the other half is completely forgettable. Here, the dissonance smacked me upside the head like the first time I heard Monk Alone in San Francisco.

*Edit* I can't count.

Not the most talented maybe. But I’ve always lived. We will see if this was a true farewell tour.

To start with, I could have sworn I put a Bjork Hyperballad in here somewhere, but if not, she absolutely needed to be included. Here’s more.

I didn't mention it, but I went and listened to "Venus As A Boy" yesterday while we were doing this. It would definitely be there or thereabouts.

And Bikini Kill is the absolute tits.

Monster Magnet…. If you enjoy listening to albums in their entirety, “Spine of God” and “Superjudge” are amazing if you are in the correct frame of mind. Here’s a taste.

I almost included Rebel Girl but instead I wanted to capture the Riot Grrrl movement's evolving musical ambitions by the end of the 90's. Also, One More Hour is one of my all-time favorite songs, period.

And Human Behaviour is one of the many, many songs that were and are still up for the final three slots on my list. Still trying to work these out, btw.

Edit: I think I've decided that Velvet Underground + Nico doesn't necessarily belong on this list. I reserve the right to change my mind on that.

I do feel like this needs to be on it though:

So my list at present, in chronological order:

1) Strange Fruit - Billie Holiday
2) Be My Baby - The Ronettes
3) Feeling Good - Nina Simone
4) Gloria - Patti Smith
5) Oh Bondage! Up Yours! - X-Ray Spex
6) Kool Thing - Sonic Youth
7) Rid of Me - PJ Harvey
8) f*** and Run - Liz Phair
9) One More Hour - Sleater-Kinney

I feel like I should round this out with something from this century. After much deliberation:

Not having a Bjork song on my top 10 may be my biggest regret, among others. I decided not to do more than one song by an artist, and I don’t know if my favorite Bjork song would make it. Of course, it can’t if it’s not voted for. But it’s not like others I like wouldn’t either. I always say had i done it one a different day it would be different.

Gold Lion was just played at 407
All I Really Want at 404

They’re gonna go to 6pm, so might get down to around 300.

I just listened to it for the first time - it's f***ing great. I think had I been exposed to them a little earlier and more often I would have been a huge fan, because I almost always like what I hear from them.
