It's the darkest day for those who pick players from the Montreal Canadiens on their fantasy team (NHL,NHL2K,etc).

Gillette made bank on this team. Then he bought another team and will flip that too. Here's what he thinks of all your tears!!

Every day Bergevin is allowed to piss on the history and heritage of this team and turn it more and more into an institution to pump up his massive over-inflated ego is the darkest day in Habs history, and every day this goes on is darker than the one before it. It's unfathomable how much this clown has managed to spit in the face of what this team stands for and us, the fans, yet he needs "just one more shot at it".

Unfreakingbelievable.

I mentioned leaving the Forum more as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the ghosts. I agree it was time for a new arena, too bad they couldn't build it on the same spot.

The Richard riot remains as the darkest day. My father experienced it live and it was one of his favourite tales. The Roy affair was devastating and should have served as a lesson about cliques and nepotism in management but it only got worse. Some of the bad trades might be maddening but every team makes them.

Today's situation just might turn out to be the worst yet. PuckSeparator shares my view with his post above. The longer things stay the same, the darker this will get. We aren't out of the woods by a long shot. Saint-Maurice priez pour nous.

To me, it's trading PK. I'm still not over it and will never be. Close 2nd is when the Blair Betts deal fail through because of medical. Heartbreaking.

June 29th, 2016, second only to Roy's exit.

Was about to say the same thing. Those two days were the darkest for me. I stuck with the team through the Houle years and the Roy trade but the Subban trade was different. It was a totally unnecessary trade that is going to set the team back another 10 years. I just don't have the patience and don't care enough anymore.

1.Trading Roy
2.Guy retiring too early.
3.Hiring MB and MT

Notice Trading Roy was because of Mario Tremblay, who was because of Rejean Houle.

Lafleur retiring early was because of Jacques Lemaire.

Management is so important. We need good managers, right now. I have no hope for the foreseeable future.

Fair enough.. perhaps the title should be rephrased "within our living memory" since most of us here didn't experience that in person.

Morenz's career ending injury and subsequent death might be right up there too.
Don't think anyone alive would remember the Morenz injury particularly well.

We finally had another superstar. We finally had a guy every fan of every team knew, who was on all the commercials and was THE guy you thought of when you thought of the Habs. A legit guy who won awards, and who wasn't a goalie... Because as much as I love Price, it isn't the same when it's a goalie.

Trading PK was unnecessary for sure. But hiring Therrien, extending Therrien, doubling down on Therrien???? If that did not tell youy there was an idiot in charge of the teams future you were not paying attention. It was more than obvious then. Long before the PK trade that this team was fu(#ed.
Subban trade was confirmation for the doubters.

Id pay 500$ to watch subban

and around 75$ to watch Weber

Weber might be a good overall player but hes not fun to watch at all.

Ehhh... It's team vs team that's going on...

Once again the PK love is just crazy TBH...

How can you love 1 player more than a whole team is just beyond me.

In recent memory I'd definitely say the Subban trade is #1.

When they announced Markov wasn't being signed this past summer it was also a little saddening. Although I wouldn't classify it as darkest day in Habs history.

It aint skating with the stars.

I paid big dollars to watch the 93 and 89 Canadiens in the finals.

I would not pay to watch the 016 Canadiens. Even with Subban. Or the 018 Canadiens with Weber.

Good TEAMS are what gets me out to watch. Championships or at least the pursuit of.

Oilers in town? MacDavid. Who cares. They stink. Ill catch individual talents on TV. Free.

Amen brother. Therrien should have never been hired.

When they left the Forum.
That was another one. Forcing Lafleur into retirement sucked bad as well. I still remember that.

And there are obviously worse times. Richard riots and Morenz have been mentioned. But they were before my time.

Again, with Roy and Lafleur at least we'd won some cups and those teams were past their prime. I hate that we didn't do anything with the core we had with MB coming onboard. That will always be viewed by me as such a huge wasted opportunity. Just a tremendous waste of talent.
