Darkest day for me was koivu’s cancer announcement, that went far beyond the game. Besides that though the Roy trade followed closely by the pk trade. It wasn’t necessarily that they were traded, just the fact that both trades were so lopsided in the other teams favour.

Good way to put it. Not necessarily the fact they were traded but what they were traded for. Knowing what we know P.K. should've netted us a young top center. And that's the problem, is that he was replaced by a win now player. Knowing that we are not going to win now the young center would have been probably better for us at this stage than having Weber or even P.K. for that matter.

Richard riot and the Morenz and Vezina sagas too.

Joe Hall passing away and the series being cancelled.

My memory was the final game of the 1969-70 season when the Habs lost to the Hawks and missed the playoffs. (all they needed that night was a tie or ?3? goals scored and didn`t get either). It was the first time they had missed the playoffs since 1948, the only time in Jean Beliveau`s career.

This was truly a sad day for Habs fans, particularly the fact that Detroit sat out all their star players, letting NYR's run up the score. Leaving the Habs(Needing a win or 5 goals to get into the playoffs, tragic):thumbd::thumbd::thumbd: playing against Tony "0" Esposito(15 Shutouts that year.) against Chicago.

While the Roy Trade hurt many of you so much, I was mere 10 years old and it crushed me. That being said, I was 10 years old so my emotions were probably high, but then would quickly be distracted by a super Nintendo or going outside. Unable to really comprehend or understand relationships or what was occuring.

The PK trade happened as a full fledged adult (I haz a job!) after decades of interest into this franchise. So I was able to comprehend what is occuring and also attempt to understand why such a stupid (non) hockey trade might have been made.

To me, the PK trade hurt more.

It hurt more because it represented everything I hated about the current regime had been manifested into moving away one of the few players I truly enjoyed. PK's play was able to send shivers up my spine/ made my hair on my neck stand up with excitement ( See PK vs Boston in the PO's when PK jumps from the P box to a breakaway).

Roy was a dedicated and decorated player no doubt but PK bleed for that symbol on his jersey, he was built for the pressure cooker that is MTL and this city fell in love with him . He donated 10 million of his own money to a hospital ( the kids won on that one, regardless if it was for PKs brand or not)

Perhaps it just has to do with me being older, but when they traded PK, that was the darkest day for me.

To comment on this, who wouldve thought an American businessman would care more about our franchise than a born and raised quebecer with 100 years of family history behind him.

Again, I get that Molson isn't exactly aiming for a cup here, but neither was Gillett.

That was the day I became a die hard Habs fan. I was listening to that game on the radio in Po Dunk Alberta as a little boy. Still remember it, I cried when the game ended.

It's all on Molson.

We know who Bergevin is. He's built enough of a track record for anyone with a brain to know what he is. He won't change. I'm done with him.

Keeping him on board and all his subsequent moves are on Molson.
I suppose a guy like Poile and his years of success would be a track record you like.

Poile track record is pretty much irrelevant. He spent about 30 years of his career with an inside salary cap restriction, not being allowed by the owners to spend enough to be competitive. Nashville only recently started allowing him enough money to ice a decent team and he's running away with it.

Sunday night hockey on CBC radio?

The lasting memory was Claude Ruel pulling the goaltender with 8 to 10 minutes left in the game and the Habs still couldn`t score.

Maybe it made it all the sweeter when they rebounded and won the Cup the next spring.

The day Jacques Demers cried on TV, and he was sad for Jean Beliveau, and people were tracking the plane and waiting for the RCMP to arrest to the Kostitysns.

I too recall listening to the game, I believe the Habs pulled the goalie with 10:32 left in the game. Certainly was a dark day Indeed for Habs fans everywhere!!!...:thumbd::thumbd::thumbd:

I don't have any Dark days cuz everything I see has some positivity.
This year = a long overdue rebuild
Subban trade = a chance to trade his value without his consent
Sergs trade = Drouin
Shaw trade = a good laugh at MB

Sure, we lost all trades but still don't see why to keep looking back and feel bad.

trades two early seconds for grinder Shaw and signs him to 6 year 4 million AAV contract. Then says there's not enough money for Radulov and Markov. Then signs Karl Alzner to big contract. Then says Shaw isn't available at the trade deadline.

Same mistake over and over again: prioritizing slow/unskilled bottom pairing dmen/bottom six forwards over talent.

Because these things, didn't have to happen. Better quality personnel would have done a better job. This is why people keep looking back...

Not sure about that, Gilette came in with alot more work ahead of him than molson, the team had been in the dumps forthe better part of a decade, he brought back some respectability at the very least.

For me, the worst moments I've actually experienced are the following (too young for the Richard Riot):
  1. The Roy trade. It was the end for a team that had won two Cups and been to a 3rd Finals, all because of some headstrong egos.
  2. The break-up of the franchise after the '79 Cup. Sam Pollock retired, Scotty Bowman left because he didn't get the GM job, Dryden retired, Lemaire left, etc.
  3. The Chris Chelios trade.
  4. The PK Subban trade. Could swap this with #3.

No one cares
Geoff is the starting point. He hires and falls in love with Bergevin and the rest happens.
Going forward the target is clearly on his back, Bergevin is a terrible GM and has nothing left to prove in that regard but with Molson sticking with him and making comments to defend him that have absolutely no validity you have to wonder why the man would put himself in this situation?
