I feel better now than I did earlier. But we're still not doing anything until we fill the Voynov hole.

I'm happy for Gravel that he's already our 4th best d-man, but that's not good for a cup contender.

And yes, I realize scoring is the problem.

Ebbs and Flow of the season, The Kings were not going to play lights out hockey all year.

A pretty good slump was bound to happen.

People have selective amnesia. I remember 90% of this board (including myself) wanting Williams gone. What changed? His team getting two points?

I was actually fine with him coming back for the right price, not for what he was basically asking for from the Kings. When the Kings got Lucic, I declared Williams was not coming back because Gaborik replaced him with Lucic going to LW.

I take back everything about them having a chance. Complete and utter ****, reminds me a lot of last year. McNabb belongs in the ****ing AHL, would rather having Keaton ****ing Ellerby paired with Doughty than him. I'd also rather have Buff than Lucic any ****ing day.

Prepare for the Ducks, AZ, and possibly the Sharks passing us. This team has Montreal collapse written all over it.

Wow. You are always like that?

I have a feeling that the Kings won't be sitting atop the Pacific by the end of this road trip.

Only if we lose both and SJ wins both.

The Kings next 5:
@ St.LOUIS
@NASHVILLE
---------------------end of roadtrip
Calgary
Edm
@Ducks NBC GAME:cry:

The Ducks next 5 games:
@Canucks
Flames [flames haven't won in like 25 tries in Anaheim.]
Sabres
Oilers
Kings

Don't worry, as of right now, we're looking okay for Thursday...

You could probably take this and put a little more work in it and start a blog... just come up with some completely crazy calculations and have fun with it...

It's good to encourage the Crazy whenever possible.

Yes, Gravel made a mistake. But you know what? It's not unlike the mistakes Martinez & Voynov made when those guys first were recalled. He'd gunna be fine......

I think McNabb made the bigger mistake on the capitals game winner. Gravel was covering for McNabb who was no where to be seen. When McNabb got back he should have covered Gravel's position, but instead he went where he normally does making gravel out of position for covering McNabb's ass in the first place.

The 9-1 road record against Pacific teams is big right now. Take that record away, and the Kings are 24-19-3, which is 51 points in 45 games, which would come out to 93 over 82 games. The Kings currently have 69 points in 56 games, which would come out to 101 over 82.

Numbers can be broken down a million different ways, to say a million different things though.

7-3-0 in Oct, 1.40 points per game
7-5-1 in Nov, 1.15 points per game
10-3-1 in Dec, 1.50 points per game
6-5-1 in Jan, 1.08 points per game
3-4-0 in Feb, .86 points per game

9-9-1 since the start of the calendar year.

Almost as many regulation losses this month as any other month of the season, with 6 games still to go. 2 more road games, then 2 home games against Pacific teams, and then the Ducks to end the month. Plus what I'm guessing will be an annoying game against the Sabres. Time to turn things around a bit.

And that superstition meter is great.

The offense is just snake bit, but the defense is a long term problem.

Just a lot of bad transactions recently with the defense.

- Use top 15 pick on a defender who can't crack the lineup almost 6 years later.

- Trade significant pieces to acquire another young defenseman because the Top 15 pick is a disappointment. The player you trade for also turns into a disappointment.

- Bring in veteran defenseman who can't even play a bottom six role.

- Re-sign veteran defenseman who can't move

All the Kings needed was one of Forbort or McNabb to have actually lived up to their projections when we acquired them and we don't really have a defensive problem.

The difference between mcNabb and Forbort is that McNabb has been given his full blown cup of coffee and shot at making a go of it in the show. Forbort has been toyed around with. Played 10 road games and 4 home games. Played about 4 games as the 7th D in the lineup. Put into the lineup after sitting for weeks in the press box. Got sick with flu for a couple weeks off. Had to wait patiently as DS goes through his veteran experiements of Ehrhoff, Schenn, and McBain. Team was winning with him playing. Yet, Forbort's stats and numbers defensively have always been pretty steady. Even now being sent down, I think he has had only 3 minuses in 15 games. This is pretty much his game. He doesn't get scored on much, and usually has pretty good Corsi. I think it was good to send him back down. He needed to play hockey. He should have never been kept around while the experiment was taking place. We either need to play our future, like Gravel or Forbort, or trade them for some more old vets that DS and DL seem to want for the playoffs. We should have just played Gravel and Forbort all season long as the third pair, and they'd be fine by now. I think the difference between us and Chicago is that Chicago will sort of rebuild a little bit here and there. I never get the feeling the Kings are thinking that way. I always feel the Kings are thinking they can not trust or play any rookies with cringing and feeling despair about it. It certainly can't be a great environment for these kids to come along in. The pressure from DS has to be rather overwhelming I would imagine. I don't picture DS being this bundle of encouragement. It's tough love all the way!!

LA are pretty good at bringing through rookies though, and Sutters coaching record speaks for itself. I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps tough love works instead of the cuddly environment like edmonton :dunno:

Yup sutter is known for bringing rookies along slowly.. just look at Marleau in San Jose for an early day example.
Toffoli has had to come along slowly too.

The 'Sutter doesn't like rookies' storyline is so played. Every opportunity on this team is earned. That's why Lewis and King are so frequently in the top six - they work their ***** off.

Not sure you can put this on our D corp. If our offense was going off and we're still getting scored on, sure....maybe there's something wrong with our D then. But when the offense isn't scoring, our forwards need to step up and help out in the backend. Can't expect 2 dmen to cover 3 forwards. **** the point shot, Quick will stop those given a clear path. But no way should there be an open man in front of the net.....ever.

I think we're speaking in generalities when it comes to d-men. Can't really put it on the D when the top PP in the league is held scoreless and we hold a team making a mockery of the standings to two late goals while dominating most of play. Can maybe 'blame' HOW they scored on the D in regards to McNabb's focus, but that's a minute detail if we're only scoring one, those were two great plays he'll have to learn from (because those are the kinds of plays that bump out out of the playoffs).

I like McNabb in general, he's just miscast right now.
