Next September will be a dog fight for spots. There's a couple other guys that could be ready in Rosen, Rousek on a one way, wouldn't rule out Kozak and maybe even Novikov on the back end. You can't ice 4, 5 or 6 rookies in a season with high expectations, can you?
Noah Ostlund could also be ready next year.

You talk like a guy that has never watched him or something?
I am talking about what a GM would do on draft day. Caufield went 15th when he should have been top 5. Benson went 13th. Dach went 3rd and would likely go well into the top 10 in most drafts. Benson may turn out to be better than Kirby but it is highly unlikely he would go before Dach if they were in the same draft.

He's not even that small....on top of that he's 18 and can still grow a few inches/pounds.
Yeah, people talk about Benson as if he’s 5’6” 150. He’s really not small to the point of it being a weakness, beyond the physical weakness that would be true of almost any 18 year old.

In his prime, he’ll be a shade under 6’ 200.

I see your point but who cares what
some GMs might do on draft day. Aside from being some anonymous hypothetical, GMs are more often wrong than right on draft day.

You would think that Montreal might have learned that taking the Big center in Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Doug Wickenheiser over the "smaller " more skilled guy doesn't always work out but sure there is always that one GM that wants the "safer" pick sure.

Also there is no way that CC should have been picked top 5 either he is a one dimensional shooting version of Benson who plays a more complete type of game than Cole.

The thing is that some of the players from the 19 draft also haven't panned out due to injuries and maybe the Covid thing hurt them too but that's impossible to tell really.
