What's your proposed lines? It's more of a consequence of Matthias playing with Soderberg and Landy, the former whom he plays well with. This is the "start in their own end" line.

Rants looked okay. Not a lot of minutes but I think that'll change. The penalty honestly could have went for or against the Avs there but Rants gets the call.

I would switch Matthias and Rantanen. I said this a week ago. If he is called up put him(and players in general) in a position to succeed. Have confidence in him. Or just leave him in SA. We will see as the game goes on. Maybe Roy will.

I'd like to see him get even few shifts with players who can keep the puck or even pass.

Thing is that lines playing really well. And Rants is playing centre as a result of injuries.

Ideally if he's switched to a higher line it'll be for Mitchell.

I've compared Roy to Randy Carlyle in the past, and I'll do it again here.

No only do they have similar advanced stats, they both never gave young kids a real chance. VERY few rookies played over Ten** minutes a game(if any).

After two periods he's only played 5:55 minutes, that's pathetic.

He's done the same thing with Bigras and Zadorov as well. It's beyond annoying.

Colorado is ruining him. I wish the Panthers got him...

What line did he play on his first 6 games?

Yup.

Not one good team in the NHL plays players consistently under 10 minutes, playing 3 line hockey is not the way of the NHL anymore IMO.

TOO Old school.

Oh yeah, not one team missing their top 2 centres would limit the time on ice of their bottom line?

There's some context here you're missing.

Not to mention we're in a playoff race here. Winning this game is kind of important.

So do the guys think they continue to "convert" him to C when Mack and duchene are back?

Landeskog was the best player on the ice tonight. In fairness to Matthias he did some good work to get the puck to Soderberg on the Landeskog goal.

I often praise Rants, so I hope this doesn't come off in a bad way. I don't think Rantanen played a great game tonight, nor did he play a bad game either. He only saw 7:52 TOI. So all that was expected from him was for his line to eat up some 4th line mins.

We will see what plans the Avs have for him in the long run. But since this was an emergency call up, I can't fault his limited usage in a win.

But in the long run, will state again, if they are only going to use him for 7 mins a game with 4th line players. They did the right thing letting him develop in SA in the AHL this year.

I can't believe some guys here think that because he gets 4th line minutes as a teenager that he's being ruined. Lots of players start there, even later in their careers and still thrive.

Mikko looked nervous and a little sloppy. With the time off before our next game, hopefully he looks a lot more settled in now that this first game back is out of the way and it's not so much of a surprise. Good think Roy's easing him in like he did Greg. Patrick's got such a deft hand for nurturing young talent.

Nonsense. That line has excellent chemistry and are doing very well facing the toughest minutes. Mikko should not be on that line, certainly not in his first game back in the NHL, on short notice, in which he's playing nervously. If he's more himself in the next matches he'll move up the lineup.

Not sure why you are responding to an older post of mine when there is a newer post that explains my position.

did he play center or? what were Colorado's line combinations and how would you rate his play?

He played centre. Looked so/so. Spent most of the time skating around down low in the defensive zone since he was playing on the 4th line with Skille and McLeod. He did generate a couple of chances though and looked sharp in his limited time with the puck on his stick.

He played 7 minutes so it's hard to say much more than that. Most fans will disagree with it but that's how Roy does things. He's turned the once ruined Mikhail Grigorenko into one of the most dangerous players on the ice by bringing him along slowly this year.

How many coaches consistently play players less than 10 minutes a game, especially players with skill?

Even at a young age, coaches still play forwards over 10 minutes a game.

Kuznetsov under Trotz started as a 4th line center with 4th line minutes, and he wasn't a teenager, and he doesn't look like ruined.

Your agenda is showing.

McLeod and Martinsen both average at least 10 minutes a game. Skille is averaging just under 9 but when he's playing well he gets more ice time.

Rantanen wasn't great but I expect him to look a little more comfortable next game. I think him playing on the 4th line suggests the plan is probably to end him back after his 3 games. I hope he gets a chance in a top 9 role before then though.

Didn't see the newer one until I had already responded to the older one, and your post touched on something a number of people were unhappy with. It was more of a spring board for the general topic of breaking up the Matthias-n-Sodaskog line, so that we could throw Mikko onto our toughest unit.

*shrug* Worked for Grigorenko. No way he's playing this well and engaged if he had just been stuck on a scoring line off the bat, rather than being eased up the lineup. He didn't have his best game last night, playing C for the first time in months, but he was arguably our best forward in the previous match against calgary.

What agenda? I never once have hid the fact that I think Roy is a horrendous NHL coach, I've even made threads that are backed up with legitimate arguments.

How many NHL teams consistently play players 6 to 8 minutes a game?

It's backwards hockey.

I just told you he doesn't "continuously play players 6-8 minutes a game". There is no one on the Avalanche that averages less than 8 minutes a game.

He also plays our top 3 lines fairly evenly. We have 9 forwards who average more than 15 minutes a game.

How does 1 game = consistently? Can you please explain the validity of that logic?
