For me it would be.

Mcdavid
Eichel
Provorov
Rantanen

Hanifin, Strome, Marner, Connor in no particular order. I also think others deserve top 10 billing like Barzal. But Rantanen does seem to be the one player that has really imposed his will into the top 5.

Pretty difficult to judge at this point with Strome and Marner forced back to junior and Connor playing at Michigan which is pretty under the radar for the Canadian media (who tends to drive a lot of the conversation, for better or worse). Rantanen's play has definitely opened some eyes though. Think the top-5 stays the same for the purposes of ceiling and the junior factor, but Rantanen and Connor have willed their way into the 6/7/8 conversation for me. I'd probably go:

McDavid
Eichel
Strome
Marner
Hanifin
Rantanen
Provorov
Connor
Werenski
Zacha

I'd say that's fair and it's also difficult to compare across different leagues. What should be known is Rantanen is by far the best player on his team. Many of the others are on great teams, because of them no doubt but they have good teammates too, Rantanen has absolutely nobody.

Rantanen and Connor were in the discussion for 6/7/8 at the draft. If Provorov weren't there Philly would've picked one of them, and the Avs were trying desperately to trade up with CBJ for Mikko.

There's a reason the Leafs brought Rantanen up to Toronto before the draft and showed him around (and nobody else). We also know that they approached Columbus about flipping picks if they wanted to move up. I think it's very possible that Mark Hunter had Rantanen next on his list after Marner and that they would have chosen him at #4 if the Coyotes had picked Marner, or at least called Columbus back and made a better offer. They might even have considered the difference small enough to give up Marner if they could have snagged those extra 2nd round picks. The Leafs list must have looked something like this:

3. Marner
4. Rantanen
5. Provorov
6. Strome
7. Hanifin

Rantanen with his 20th goal last night to tie the game up with 3 mins to go, where SA went on to win it in OT.

That's 20 goals in his first 38 AHL games. Was also +3 last night.

I've been sleeping on this kid. He's been really great in the AHL. 5th in scoring in the league as a rookie. I'm way jealous of this kid. Obviously early but he must be making some GMs second guess themselves.

I thought that Zacha and Meier ahead of him were kind of head-scratchers at the time. At the moment Rantanen seems to be challenging Marner and Strome.

Top five plus/minus players on Rampage:

Rantanen +27
Everberg +10
Street +8
Redmond +6
Cliche +3

How is that possible? Did Rampage have bad stretches when Rantanen was injured or in wjc?

He is one of the best players in the league so his line is going to be really strong. Add that a lot of the other strong forwards on the team were long term injured (Street and Agozzino in particular) so they have had depleted depth.

Since Pickard has been up in the NHL for a long while and Will and Martin has a .900 and .902 sv% it's quite impressive to have that good a +/- since the team is leaking goals against.

God, he's so ****ing good.

I think I now know why the leafs had him in mind when they thought about trading down to 8

I said this before but I had him at 3 and closer to Eichel than the next guy. I was disappointed with his WJC though he played well but it's hard going from NA pros to Euro juniors on the big ice. Not surprised at all at how good he's been in the AHL, I thought he'd stick in the NHL no problem, tbh.

Yay, the Rantanen/Nylander rivalry can continue! Does someone remember when San Antonio got their latest win?

About time. He managed to get point/s almost all of the games lately and they've lost them all.

44gp 52 points, 21+31.

He's been centering some ECHL call ups too while doing that. That team is a disaster but imagine how bad it will be now that he's gone.
