Duchene and MacKinnon went down, the Avs finally got desperate. I'm glad they turned to him and not a fill-in. Duchene isn't supposed to be out long, no idea on Mack, so it's possible they try to patch the lineup for 3 games with Mikko and then don't burn the contract. I wanted him up in January and wasn't entirely concerned about the contract but to do it with 10 games left it a bit frustrating. If he stays in the top 6 it's worth it though. I'm very excited to see him at the NHL level again. I've even been watching those painful Rampage games and Rantanen was doing all he could.

It's also worth it if, as a result, the Avs manage to hold off the Wild

Damm, Colorado missed on a fantastic draft, couldn't even make it on ice :shakehead:sarcasm:

It's damm great to see him up, but not that great that it is because of injuries instead of rewarding his play.

It's going to be a tough spot for him, 2 of Colorados best offensive guys are out and a playoff race against Minnesota.

Hard to believe that in most years, people would be saying he should've gone top-5, but the draft was so strong in 2015 that 10th is still good value for him.

McDavid, Eichel, Marner, Strome, Hanifin, Connor, Zacha, Werenski

Just crazy talent already.

Don't forget Provorov. Best dman in the entire CHL this season.

Well Roy's bright idea is to start him on the 4th line with Mcleod and Skille tonight. Such a waste of talent and an ELC year if they play him 4 or more games.

Duchene+Mack gone and starts Rants on the 4th line :shakehead
That's really not trying to replace their offense.

Can't wait to see the bust comments after the game if he doesn't get a point

I assume it will change quickly, we've seen it before where someone starts on the fourth line only to move up quickly after the start of the game. I'd bet he only gets a handful of shifts there before going to the top 6

If that's true, it just further proves that Roy is terrible.

Rantanen slated to start the game on the 4th line.

Typically a left wing, Rantanen will be playing center between Cody McLeod and Jack Skille when the puck drops Sunday night.

“He’s going to start on the fourth line with McLeod and Skille, and we’ll see how he’s playing,” Patrick Roy said. “We’re not going to put too much pressure on him to start with. [We’ll] give him a chance to feel comfortable on the ice and adapt, and we’ll see from there.”

The positional shift is of little concern to Rantanen, who has been playing center for the Rampage as of late.

“I played center in the AHL like the last 15 games, I think. So it’s not new, but of course players are faster and better here,” said Rantanen. “So I’ll have to defend better and try to bear down in faceoffs too. There’s good faceoff guys in this league, so I’ll have to bear down.

I really hope it's just for a few shifts.
Not the easiest start for Mikko, 1st game as a C with 4th liners going against McDavid/Dra/RNH

You're right. Has nothing to do with working an inexperienced player into the lineup slowly who is playing his first ever NHL game at centre.

He said he'd start him there and see how it goes. It allows him to shelter him for a bit as the top 3 lines are going to be facing McDavid, Drai and RNH down the middle.

Is there a reason they're making him go centre? Don't the avs have duchene and Mackinnon at C? Doesn't seem necessary to me.

Mackinnon and Duchene are hurt. Rantanen played 3:52 in the 1st. Took a PIM. But definite 4th line mins.

I hope Roy elevates him in the lines and trusts him some more. Matthias playing as a Top 6C is kind of silly if you ask me.

What's your proposed lines? It's more of a consequence of Matthias playing with Soderberg and Landy, the former whom he plays well with. This is the "start in their own end" line.

Rants looked okay. Not a lot of minutes but I think that'll change. The penalty honestly could have went for or against the Avs there but Rants gets the call.
