How does 1 game = consistently? Can you please explain the validity of that logic?

In the first 7 games of his career, av fans said he player less than 12 mins and played 4th line minutes. How is he supposed to produce with 4th line linemates and crappy minutes. I saw the game and he looked pretty decent in the limited minutes. I don't like coaches who belive they should start off players with low mins just because they are young and havent "earned" there jobs. Rantanen is a good player right now with a chance to develope into a pretty great player. Coaches like Carlyle, Roy, Therrien, Eakins, Mike Johnson ruin youngsters by playing over hill vets with lesser ability over players like Ranatanen, Yak (he was ruined by eakins), Gardiner (recovered and is a great num 3 now), Gally (for a long time) etc

First off, 12 minutes does not equate to 6 minutes. That's practically doubling the time. I don't like Roy's methods, but I am not going to pretend that he is ruining Rantanen. I hated how he handled Grigorenko, but Grigs went from being disastrously handled in Buffalo to looking like he has an NHL future again. I'm not going to say that Roy is bad with young players. I've disapproved of much of what he's done, but a lot of it has also turned out well. In his first year here, to start the season, he scratched Tyson Barrie and eventually Barrie was sent to the AHL. That was three years ago, and many, including myself, that it was appalling mismanagement. Now Barrie is a 50 a point defensman. I also find that far too much blame is put on coaches for ruining players. Yakupov's IQ never caught up the NHL, and it still hasn't. He can shoot, and he can skate. That's about it. That's on him.

Would I like to see Rantanen get a real chance? Yes. Do I think it's ridiculous that he's playing on the 4th line after dominating the AHL, especially with our two best forwards injured? Yes. Do I think he's ruining Rantanen? No, that's an insanely melodramatic response.

For starters, I never said Rantanen is/was ruined, I said Roy is a terrible coach, which I have stated many times. I compared Roy to Carlyle, which I still stand by.

1 game?

5 of his 7 NHL games sees him getting less than 10 minutes a game lol.

1) I never said you said Rantanen was / is ruined, and 2) Only 2 games fit into the statement you made. It's semantics, but you're shifting the goalposts. Regardless, 2 =/= "consistently," nor does 5.

I don't understand how any Avs fans can still have complaints with how Roy handled Greg. At the time, fine. We had those arguments back then, and I conceded that I could see where y'all were coming from; but now that we're seeing the results? Really? Greg wouldn't have gotten his career back on track like he has without Roy's gentle hand easing him into being an NHL player, before having to be a top-6 NHL player. After how nervous Rantanen looked last night...having to jump in amidst a playoff race with our bitter divisional-rivals; on short notice; while our top 2 Centers are out, one of whom has been our best skater this season (Duchene)...easing him was the right call.

It's one thing to throw kids into big roles when you're rebuilding and there's little expectation of team-success...as we did when were blooding Duchene & Landeskog...but throwing kids into the fire when the pressure is high is much tougher on them. And the risk of stunting their growth if they can not thrive right off of the bat, is much greater. Letting them feel things out and get used to being-/playing-against- NHLers in a smaller role, before adding the pressure of needing to produce to keep the playoff dream alive, does a lot to negate that risk.

And it doesn't even have to be a particularly long easing-in period. Greg was on a lower line for so long because he was struggling with his engagement; but MacKinnon didn't have issues engaging, and he wasn't on the third line for long; nor does Mikko have those problems. He just needs to get comfortable on the ice with NHLers; and to this end, the extra days between games during this part of the season should really be of help, now that he's practicing with the team.

PS;
I also have to point out that Roy was actively trying to get the Rantanen line onto the ice for extra shifts once we were sitting on a lead in the third period, despite his shaky play and how badly we needed the points to stay ahead of Minny. So Roy's not just throwing the kid on a 4th line and saying "force me to give you a chance", like some Torts-clone.

Has been sent down after 9 games in order to not burn an ELC year. Played good today in his limited minutes. Hopefully whoever the coach is next year plays him on the wing and in the top 9.

Here is the most recent quote by Sakic on Rants.
“We’re not going to burn a year, first of all. He will start next year,†Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic told The Denver Post, identifying a potential expansion draft as a factor in the decision. “[Expansion rules] can change, it’s got to be negotiated, but in his first two years he would be treated like a junior player. From our understanding, but not 100 per cent, the first two years he won’t be exposed so you don’t have to protect them. So you can protect your other guys. If expansion (starts) in another year he would be a one-year pro not a two. If we have to protect him, that’s a guy we’ll protect. You only have so many players to protect.â

When regular season ends in AHL.
And what are the odds for Rantanen participate Finland in men's world championships next month
San Antonio has its last game on Saturday night. After that, Rantanen is done with his day job.

What comes to Rantanen's participation in the WHC, it's most likely up to Rantanen himself. If he wants to go, they'll have him.

It was announced today that he will play for Finland at the World Championships.

Nice to hear they don't cut him like they did to Ristolainen. Jalonen has little different approach in his final year as a head coach.

Was he announced that he WILL play for finland? I thought he came to the camp to fight for a spot
Not specifically. But Jalonen said earlier that they're not going to to haul in any tryouts from overseas, only players they intend to have in the final team. Besides, if someone like MaG was promised a spot from the get-go, same courtesy should definitely be extended to Rantanen as well, unless it really matters that much that one spent most of his time upstairs while the other didn't.

Well, though one certainly hopes this principile does not apply to Bäckström.

The 4th line

What do you read into this? I was under the impression that the only reason he wasnt getting good minutes in the NHL toward the end of this season was management, yet the FIN coach feels he is best suited for the 4th line. I am legitimately curious as I ended up picking him up in my hockey pool
