The Stanton hit was gorgeous, just like the Bortuzzo hit. Both good, clean, hard hits.

Wonder if Stanton's gonna have to answer a call from the player safety dummies. I doubt it.

Agreed. Both hits were freaking awesome. Sadly there is no consistency in player safety. I would have EASILY let both hits go. Great hits.

MJ said he thought Letang would be out 2 weeks from the date Letang was injured, not 2 weeks from yesterday.

I'm curious where you saw that at? This is the tweet I used to calculate his return:

Coach Johnston on when Kris Letang should be back: "I’m looking at probably about 2 weeks. @penguins

So, two more weeks is how I read that. If you have better info, I'll update the first post.

MJ said that yesterday after the morning skate, they played the interview on penguins live, they have the podcast up on the pens website if you want to listen to it.

MJ was asked originally how long Letang would be out and he responded by saying 2 weeks, later on in the press conference he was asked to clarify if it was 2 weeks from today or 2 weeks from the injury.

In all honesty, that wasn't a very smart pass by Sid...

okay, but it's not like the pass was in his feet. He missed the puck a few feet from his body and then put his head down and searched for it. Maybe not a great pass, but I don't think it's the suicide pass people are making it out to be.

It was a bad pass by Sid but Hornqvist put his head down and made himself vulnerable. It's not surprising that the sequence ended badly.

He didn't even last 30 games here...

I honestly can't remember if the league has a problem with hits when a player is vulnerable or not. Maybe if we mess with his birth certificate and say he's 45. :sarcasm:

His blond hair makes him look balder than he is, so it could work.

Johnston says Hornqvist still being evaluated but will take baseline concussion test. Hornqvist walked thru #Penguins locker room earlier.

How is "Comeau 2.0" a solid argument AGAINST acquiring somebody else???

He's actually solved something (Comeau). We'd be significantly worse off without him.

Because we need top six talent? And Comeau, nor Morin solve anything there. It's just adding more of what we already have.

It was a bad pass but Hornqvist doesn't seem to care about whether or not he's in a vulnerable position, he's just balls out every shift.

It wasn't a bad pass at all, in the sense of putting Hornqvist in a dangerous spot. Crosby just lobbed it into an area. The problem is 100% that Hornqvist wasn't paying attention to the defenseman he was skating at.

What are you talking about, the Bortuzzo hit was 100% on the head. He may not have intended to hit Jagr that high, but he deserved the suspension he got.

Give me a break, he hit him in the chest right at the collarbone. If he hit Jagr "100% on the head," his head would have snapped back and Jagr would have been carted off. The league specifically didn't mention anything about it being a headshot either.

He didn't deserve a penalty, let alone to sit for 2 games. The league's a joke.

100% on the head? Why are people flat out lying? He hit him on the chest and had the hit go through the chin. That's not 100% on the head.

I didn't mean the entire hit was in the head. I meant that there's 100% no question that he made contact with the head.

That's not how I remember the video, so I just rewatched it. They specifically mention "bortuzzo drives through Jagr's chest and chin with his right shoulder". And "what elevates this hit to merit supplemental discipline is it's extreme lateness, predatory nature and significant head contact"

Has anyone thought about our "annual chain of injuries" being connected to to our lack of depth so thus over-working and over-playing our top 2 lines? I mean, there have been only two consistencies of this team in the regular season: no depth on the wings and constant injuries to our top 6 and top defensive pairings.

My first post was a bit unclear. I clarified what was meant by it in my last post before this one. That said, your assertion that it's 100% not on the head, given what you thought I meant, is the flat out lie here.

Where does he specifically mention a headshot? A headshot is a hit where the head is the primary and initial point of contact. That's exactly the same as saying the hit was "100% to the head." Which it wasn't. Because he hit Jagr in the chest/collarbone, of course he's going to make contact with the head. That doesn't make it a bad check, or a headshot.

Beautiful hit. Would say the same thing if it was Sid or Geno on the receiving end. That's the kind of hit that got Scott Stevens into the Hall of Fame and immortalized his career.

We were actually doing really well there at first. And, since most of the injuries this time last year were broken bones, it will take less time to get healthy this year ... excluding Duper, of course.

BB should be practicing with the team again next week, with Tanger and Kunitz a few days later. Hopefully they're just being extra cautious with Horny, still waiting on more info on that ... but, the bright side being that we just have to tough it out for another 4 or 5 games. Of course, the dark side is we're still short wingers in the top six, but that's another story.
