I'm sure the Blues would prefer to trade him before the expansion draft so they don't have to protect him, but they're probably going to need to protect at least one player coming back the other way in a trade so that may not matter. After the draft, Seattle will have additional assets to use to be able to broker a deal where they can pick up Tarasenko and flip him with 50% retained to a team that wants to take a flyer on him but is restricted by cap issues from doing so at full price. For example:

Seattle selects Vince Dunn in the expansion draft.

Later, Seattle sends Vince Dunn back to St. Louis as part of a deal where Seattle gets something very nice from Team C for retaining 50% on Tarasenko, the Blues get Dunn back and maybe a sweetener from Team C, and Team C gets Tarasenko at $3.75M instead of $7.5M.

He didn't just sign his contract. It's 2 years not 7.

He only has 2 years left. I don’t know where you’re getting 7.

Tarasenko has 2 years left. He defiantly did look like an nhl player last year. It took him time to re acclimate. Watch his last 10 games his 4 playoff games and his 5 international games for tram Russia. I have said tgis over and over. It's just easier for people to make sheet up and offer nothinf

Where the hell are you getting 7 years from? Terry Cinco has 2 years left on his current contract.

Thank you all. I am dumb.

Nelson is not going anywhere - Isles 2C.

I don't see a problem with Eberle slotting in where Tank is and feature on the PP.

Seriously, Blues fans - Eberle for Tank a good foundation?
Less than ideal. I'd prefer either LW or LD, or futures.

lmao. no it isn't.

It's a late 1st and an above average defensive prospect for someone who when healthy is a top sniper in the game.

Nevermind that MTL also dumps Drouin in the deal.

It's highway robbery for MTL
Why is Tarasenko excused for injury but Drouin isn’t?

Fact is we add salary for a position we don’t need. Rather keep Drouin who has been are best passer for the last 2 years than add a guy who forced his way out of a former cup team. The last extra pieces are wtv but it’s not a good trade if your building a mtl team.

I’m a huge Tarasenko fan but trading is literally all risk management, this can be a brutal trade for mtl and is just not worth it

The Blues just aren't going to get much value in a Tarasenko trade unless they go with full retention.

He's coming off massive injury risk, has a $7.5m AAV and is owed $9.5 in cash next season. That's tough for most clubs to make work.

Are Schwartz and Hoffman not coming back?

If futures are going to other way - can something like this work
Eberle, Bellows, '21 2nd, & Hickey (with intention of a buyout)
for Tank

The risk in the context of a flat cap outweighs the potential benefit unless St Louis retains a big chunk of his salary.
No touch if I’m the Habs.

Blues don't do buyouts. Think bigger If you ate sending money back 2021 second has little value in this super weal draft

Do you think a deal happens before the expansion draft?
I would think if it has moving parts like Dunn in it as well or a player coming back that needs to be protected no probably right after before nhl entry draft.

If it's just tank for futures then I woukd say yes. I assume the teams doctors would need to check him out before that could take a couple days but we have 9 or 10

Remove Hickey and the 2nd.

Eberle and Bellows don't get it done?

The Salary is almost identical @ 15m owed for Tank and 15.5 for Eberle. And Blues get 2m in cap space.

Too lazy to comb through 15 pages here - @Colt55 - in your opinion, what is the ideal return? and then what is the likely return?

You just added a whole lot of possibilities I didn't think of. Interesting.

They are both distressed assets. One of them has proven when healthy he is an elite sniper. The other when healthy has been a middle 6 guy.

Drouin's career high in points is 53. Tarasenko has never failed to break 65 points when healthy. It's laughable you try to compare the two players in terms of current value.

It would take Tarasenko flopping AND either the late first or above average prospect turning to gold for the Habs to lose that proposed deal. The odds of that are quite long

Why on earth do the c blues want Eberle and Bellows who hasn't blossomed. If Eberle comes think Dobson.

Are the Blues going to protect Faulk over Dunn? I assume that contract would put Seattle off.
