As much as I loved Brady-Stutzle-Giroux last year the Brady-Norris-Batherson was just as hyped if not more the season prior. It would be stupid to go into next season with lines set in stone. Throwing Tarasenko with Stutzle at every opportunity will benefit both parties - it's a no-brainer imo.

Vlad will get his payday - with the Sens or not - and Timmy Stu will take the next step towards süperstardom.

Go for the balanced Vegas approach
Put Vlad with Timmy and on his strong side
There is no way they wasting Greig on the 4th line, so he will take Josephs spot once he gets moved.

I am thinking the lines of:

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Tarasenko
Kubalik-Norris-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Giroux
Crookshank-Kastelic-MacEwen

Stutzle the everything guy on that line and he can help both defensively.

Norris if healthy is a strong defensive player that helps with possession and Batherson as the playmaking line driver that can dish it to either player.

Really liked Greigs chemistry with Giroux last season and hopefully Pinto takes another leap forward.

Always been bullish on Crooker and is my dark horse as being a standout next season. Will play that role perfectly.

32 years of age, but... first class player, great guy and always in as good shape as you can expect. Gonna play for a LOOOONG time. Think Jagr. Next season 8 x 8 million. Don't play for free.

Are the Senators cleaning the house when it comes to last seasons second line? The "minus" line. Cat traded, Pinto unsigned and Batherson trade bait?

Erik Karlsson and Barabanov for Batherson, Joseph and Brännström? Or does Karlsson "nix" trade because of competition among defensemen?

Think you guys should play TWO established top players per top line. I mean, the lines below...buddy! It's a GOOD team!

Tkachuk - Norris - Barabanov
Kubalik - Stutzle - Tarasenko
Smejkal - Pinto - Giroux
Sokolov - Kastelic - MacEwen

Chychrun - Karlsson
Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Bernard-Docker
Carlsson - Hamonic

Korpen / Forsberg

Here’s the problem with Simmer.

At one point he was obviously in NHL management and it’s clear that in the way he speaks on air about it (and I hate to use this term) but he “identifies” as that. He longs for being an important front office guy with connections and relevancy.

He’s still desperately trying to cling and hang on to any shred of his past , and it’s only amplified because he’s a single guy with no kids, no family. And so because he’s no longer relevant in NHL circles and never will be again, and because he’s either bored or whatever, his disappointment and dissatisfaction seems to manifest itself in anger, rage, “I’m smarter than you” type behaviour typical of a spoiled child.

Does he have connections? I’m sure he has the odd one from an agent or so but it’s clear they are dwindling and not what they once were .

He’s nothing more than a troll at this point now .

Could have had him for free 13 years ago.:shakehead

sure, BUT Tarasenko was committed to play in the KHL for three seasons, when he was drafted in 2010….. the Sens wanted a player that they could put into the line much sooner than three seasons after he was drafted.

The thing with Simmer is he shits on the team and by extension the city - because when players sign here like Tarasenko Simmer say it’s his only option which doesn’t reflect OttWa in the best light, and Simmer thinks he’s a big shot that’s seen the big time and is back to tell us what it’s really like - and he doesn’t understand the fundamental Ottawa mentality that we don’t give a f***, we know we’re a small market but we also know we can win

Simmer has said before he thinks Ottawa is an insecure city but he’s mistaking insecurity for caring and kindness and that’s a typical American mentality. And that’s why Simmer worked on radio because he was brash and and got by on back slapping and hat works, but the shine domes off when you backhand the city you report on because you’re upset you can’t get back into the NHL and you take that out on a guy (Dorion) who clearly isn’t good at his job and Simmer thinks he can do better. In reality noth Simmer and Dorion are unqualified to be successful GM’s and 90% of Ottawa knows this

So, .8m left to sign Pinto...

One potential outcome, say Bath gets caught up in the TC stuff, but the suspension is modest because his involvement was the rumoured in and immediately leaves. 20-30 games gives us about 1.5 in cap space, enough to sign Pinto, and Bath joins mid season. No need to ship out anybody.

Could be as simple as burying Joseph, signing Sokolov for 775K and Pinto to 1M.

Can we acquire Matt Murray for a 7th ?

That would be too funny, but basically we'd be buying cap space for the deductible on his insurance and a 7th, in theory the Leafs should be paying us something to be on the hook for a 1.6 mil deductible but the circumstances are a bit unique

There is no immediate need to sign Pinto right away, it’s still a lot of time until opening day, when all Cap issues need to be resolved.

with all the additions to the group of forwards, logic dictates there will be a subtraction or two.

Good luck with signing Pinto for one million!
One mil is pretty extreme, but lets say he thinks he's worth 2 on a one year deal right now, and 4.5 is his ask for a 6 year deal, his options are sign a deal this year, or sit until he can come to terms. Could be as simple as an agreement to make him whole on the next deal, spread that missing 1 mil out over a subsequent 5 year deal and give it too him as a signing bonus. So 1 mil now, signs the extension in January to get the 1 mil signing bonus right then, and gets a 5 year deal at 4.7 (4.5x 5 years + a 1 mil signing bonus to make him whole bringing the aav to 4.7)

I guess technically, the math stiffs him relative to the 4.5 * 6 ask, it would have to be a 3.5m signing bonus (to bring him to 4.5) and the new AAV for the 5 year leg would be 5.2 not 4.5, but same idea.

Gotta believe they either have a strong plan to deal Joseph or Brannstrom… OR they pretty much know for certain that Batherson is going to be suspended.

I am really liking GCK's suggestion of acquiring Matt Murray, we're already on the hook to pay him 1.5 mil, what's another 500k to be responsible for the full insurance deductible?

Probably a dumb question, but Dorion doesn’t actually write those statements that are attributed to him whenever Ottawa makes a player transaction, right? It’s gotta be a PR person and/or ChatGPT since they always sound so bland and corporate (whatever you think of Pierre, those two descriptors are nothing like his actual speaking style)

Rundblad was not exactly a sure thing to be in the lineup any sooner, Dmen generally take longer, he hadn't exploded yet so he was still viewed as needing lots of development only having been drafted one year earlier

We were after Schwartz in that draft, he wasn't a regular for 3 seasons anyways, and took another season to be an impact player. I doubt very much wanting a player much sooner than three seasons after draft had any impact on the decision,

I like this signing as it gives us some additional scoring up front. Hopefully Vlad stays healthy and klicks with his line mates.

The buyouts and retained salary are annoying... but we are pretty much at the cap and we really don't have any "bad" contracts. We actually have a few really good contracts. That's actually pretty cool considering where we were a few years ago.

What an odd article. In the first line he says the Sens signed Tarasenko, then in the next sentence he basically repeats that Dorion signed Tarasenko, after the reference to Giroux last summer.

Also: "The Ottawa Senators announced today that they have signed forward, Vladimir Tarasenko to a one-year deal." No need for a comma after "forward."

And: "The 11-year veteran has seen it all in his career scoring 270 goals while adding 304 helpers for 574 total points across 675 career games." Comma after "career" is needed.

And: "With his scoring touch and the way this team has gelled, don't be surprised to see him put up big numbers in a Senators jersey. As we saw last season with Giroux who set a career high in goals in his first season with the Senators."

Should be "With his scoring touch, and the way this team has gelled, don't be surprised to see him put up big numbers in a Senators jersey - as we saw last season with Giroux, who set a career high in goals in his first season with the Senators."

Do they let anyone write for NHL.com these days?
These things are more likely the responsibility of the editor. Yes, the person writing the article should have a better sense of punctuation, sentence structure and readability but they could also be writing articles under intense deadlines - as many of them are moonlighting at several publications - and so they would need to rely on editors to tidy up their work for them.
