Great signing, now get rid of Joseph & Brannstrom & they have a playoff team that can contend. Is this the 2nd summer of Pierre now?

How does dumping good depth players make us a playoff team that can contend?
I think we have plenty of depth players, in Belleville there will be Jarventie, Ostapchuk, Reinhardt, Chartier, Boucher, Crookshank, Thompson, Guennette, Heatherington, Larsson, Sogaard & Merilainen. A number of these guys were called up last yr & some did alright for short periods of time, afterall with all the injuries they had last yr some of these guys helped this team get fairly close to a playoff spot. Depth players are for short periods of time as injury replacements & that's what the minor league team is for, I don't think they need those two. IMO I think this team needs Kleven more than Brannstrom, he makes our team bigger, tougher & much harder to play against, I think Sokolov has more offensive potential than Joseph has shown. And then there is the cap situation & who would you prefer to lose off the roster to make some salary cap space?

Saved from our own stupidity.
He could get re-signed if he has a good yr, my guess is it could come down to one of Tarasenko or Kubalik next summer.

I mean....anybody who is trashing a 1 year 5 million dollar contract to a guy who had a down year and still had 50 points in 69 games is just upset that Ottawa added another weapon to their arsenal - or simply doesn't know hockey very well.

This doesn't make us an instant Cup contender (lol), but it makes it that more likely we can at least make the playoffs. And isn't that what we all want right now?

It's a rumour, the fact is Dorion signed Tarasenko to a 1 year, $5M, almost 0 risk contract. Win Dorion, credit where it's due.

It's a great result but let's not act like a 4 year $5.5M deal for a vet with questions doesn't fit PD's profile lol.

He could get re-signed if he has a good yr, my guess is it could come down to one of Tarasenko or Kubalik next summer.

For sure, but that's much different than giving the dude 4 years from the jump.

I think Tarasenko is more likely to stay because he chose to play here. It will come down to how competitive we are this year.

I'm getting a Tarasenko jersey just to thank him for saving us from Dorion handing out yet another albatross contract.

The fact he turned that down and then signed for 1 year makes it pretty clear he doesn't want to spend his remaining career here.

Just wants to hopefully have a rebound season playing with some good offensive players and go back down south.

To me it suggests he thinks he'll have a bounce back year and be worth more than 5.5 for the next deal. If he didn't want to be here, he'd have presumably gone to SJ for more money and similar opportunity to put up numbers (perhaps that is dependent on what happens with Karlsson).

that's wild, so he took less from us? 4 yrs would have come with some risk, but 5.5 for a guy that can put up 50-60 pts isn't bad, and he did put up a pt per game one year earlier...

He's probably not the kind of player who will age gracefully. Not a great skater even in his prime and injuries are taking a toll.

He also provides little value beyond offense. Not great defensively. He kind of has to be scoring 50P/year to be worth playing at all.

San Jose is going to be a bottom feeder, especially if Karlsson is traded.

Don't think he was going to make the same mistake Klingberg made going to Anaheim last year because they paid the most on a 1 year deal.

At least here he'll probably play in the top 6 beside Tkachuk/Stutzle or Giroux/Norris.

Personally I am very happy. I didnt like Debrincat at all last year. And I am not saying that cause we lost him, I think Tarasenko can do pretty much like he did which IMO is not driving a line.

I always have been a fan of Tarasenko. He might have lost a step but just before last year he was ppg and look at Giroux with us. I honestly like the roster a lot, this and Norris coming back pushes Pinto and Kubalik on our 3rd which is a big upgrade.

On paper, to me, this is absolutely a playoff team and I cant wait to be at the opener.

This dude would find issue with Sens trading Joseph for Crosby.

“Did they get too old?”
“Why did Pittsburgh want to get rid of him, concerning"
"Did they get worse on the PK?"
Like when he said Giroux was slowing down last year on a point streak lmao. Assuming its only for clics idk

Right, his plan is to have a bounce back year and be worth more than 5.5 for the next deal with some term

Taking the short term deal here but rejecting the long deal just speaks to that. Coming here over more money in SJ AND Carolina suggests it's more about opportunity than location or money at the moment, there's no reason to assume he doesn't want to be here long term, he just wants to first leverage a good year into negotiations for whatever deal he's on, here or otherwise.

He's not like Giroux, who specially wants to be here, but I don't think he specifically doesn't want to be here either. There is the possibility that he does have a specific landing spot in mind but they won't have the cap space till next year
