Being "allowed" to talk to him something is meaningless. That's not how it works in reality. If Tarasenko is only willing to waive for FLA, they will easily find that out.
Well, if it was a game of chicken, Staois didn't even start the car.
Maybe Florida already had another deal ready to go and this was their last chance.
It's still a very weak return for a player of his calibre. I think Florida got a steal here.
How do they do that without tampering?
And is getting a middle man to do all the talking/investigating a legal way to goa round this?
There was no other teams.....
I have to negotiate for a living. Once there is no leverage and an expiring timeline you have to take what you can get unfortunately. I hate the return too, but I think people have to understand what type of leverage a full NMC gives a player. A player that has won a Stanley Cup that has a young family. I really think there is a very good chance he comes back next year, I think thats why this trade went down the way it did.

So you are arguing his first act as GM should be to risk being branded a liar? How would they know that? No team is allowed to talk to Tarasenko.
So if staios says to Vegas that Tarasenko is willing to waive for them...surely they might throw together an offer?
And then take that offer and explain to Florida that though Tarasenko prefers you(Florida) he has given us 4 more teams he's willing to waive for...one being Vegas...this is there offer. Are you topping vegas' offer?
How would Florida know that Tarasenko hasn't given Ottawa 3-4 teams he's willing to go to If Florida isn't allowed to talk to Tarasenko?
No, it’s a conditional fourth-round pick in this year's draft (which becomes a 2026 third-rounder if the Panthers win the Stanley Cup) and a third-round selection in 2025… and the Sens retain 50%. Ouch! The 3rd is a 2nd if Florida wins the Cup
Yes having a 3rd and 4th in hand is better than nothing, but that is still pathetic. Its Tarasenko's fault for only wanting to go to one spot.
If he wants to come back and sign here, he better give us a damn discount given this utterly shite return.
Any other GM, or "insider", can tell them what Tarasenko wants.
The return sucks, but what the f*** are we going to do with Tarasenko at this point? Go on another deceiving March/April run before he bolts in the offseason?-Get hired for a GM position by your friend
-Stay radio silent for several months
-Complain about needing veterans
-Trade one of your only veterans for jackshit and diddlysquat while retaining 50% of his salary
Tarasenko isn't all that high a calibre of player. Not someone other teams will play chicken about. Don't want to take the offer? Fine, we'll move on. I'd imagine that's what Florida said.
This is accurate, but boy did that NMC f*** the sens. The fact he has already won I really think effected his value. He isnt chasing a cup, he has also had a good season. So its not like he needs to go out and prove it. He is what he is and other teams know it. Perfect storm to give Ottawa no leverage. Another Pierre Dorion special in asset management.Well, if it was a game of chicken, Staois didn't even start the car.

Unless Staios tells other teams, or Tarasenko outs himself which is a bad look any team trying to get that info could be dinged for collusion.Being "allowed" to talk to him something is meaningless. How would another GM know this?
I wish we held onto him and get absolutely nothing for him instead of trading him within our division. Let's hope we don't meet them in the playoffs this year or this trade may bite us
Tarasenko didn't sign a month after free agency with Ottawa because he wanted to be here lol. He signed because it was the best offer he could get after his agent fumbled free agency. He got a NTC and the ability to decide his future at the deadline if the team stunk. There was no other teams.....

Lets say Vegas says, sure I'll do a 2nd and a mid prospect - Steve takes that Florida and they say they won't match and we just...don't trade Vlad to Vegas because he won't waive there? Then what? Lol
This isn't NHL 24, these are people Staios will have to work with in the league for years and years.
Sure, they can't officially talk to Tarasenko but you are pulling the wool over your own eyes if you think an agent or player doesn't hear "whispers" from other agents or players around the league.
