You've moved the goal posts so far they are on another field at this point, if you can't remember what you said a couple posts ago it's no wonder you've misconstrued what happens 13 years ago. Your claim was Tarasenko was committed to play in the KHL for three seasons at the time of the draft, that appears to be false given he said he was willing to come over even for junior in his draft interviews according to the hurricanes amateur scout.

You said wanting someone who they could put in the line much soon and that was their motivation for the trade, again no real evidence supports this, trading for a Dman drafted one year earlier doesn't speak to a desire to get someone in the line quickly.

He signed with the blues Jul 2012 two years after the draft, the lockout is the only reason he played games in the KHL that year, and he was in the blues lineup for opening night, he was one of the more NHL ready prospects that draft and although he was committed for 1 year to the KHL, the list on players drafted mid first that step right in after being drafted is miniscule.

Teams were reluctant with the Russian factor, the lack of a transfer agreement meant they couldn't pull guys under active contracts and the KHL was throwing money at players, but it's a giant leap to say we didn't take him because we wanted someone who could step into the lineup sooner,

If Tarasenko plays with Stützle AND Giroux 30 goals is the floor.

Giroux - Stützle - Tarasenko
Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Kubalik
Smejkal - Kastelic - Kelly
MacEwan

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Chychrun
Brannstrom - Hamonic
JBD

Korpisalo
Forsberg

That’s a playoff roster and it can probably withstand 2-3 season ending injures

Disagree with the season ending injuries part.

I think it’s a boarder line playoff team, the goaltending still scares the shit out of me personally.

It is a question of who we are going to pass in the Atlantic.

Toronto = no
Tampa = probably not
Florida = probably not
Boston = maybe
Buffalo = maybe
Detroit = maybe
Montreal = yes

Good chance that the Atlantic sends 5 teams this year with NJ, NYR and CAR coming out of the Metro. Pittsburgh might surprise too.

I think we are fighting with Boston, Buffalo and Detroit all year. If any of those 3 teams (including us) gets bad injury luck or sub-par goaltending they are probably cooked. Buffalo has good depth so they may be the most resilient of the bubble teams.

If we lose Batherson from the jump we are gonna be behind the eight ball relative to those other teams.

Tarasenko signing was really important though because without an addition like that we aren’t a playoff team.

If the injury gods are good to the Sens and Batherson isn't suspended and we get adequate goaltending, I honestly think we could be a really good team and be fighting for top dog in the division.

Or DJ proves he is a terrible coach, and we suck again. This has to be make-or-break for DJ and Dorion.

I can see us passing Florida. Their blueline without Montour and Ekblad is pathetic. I see us getting past Detroit as well, not enough fire power in their top 6 even with DeBrincat. Buffalo will be interesting as their only question mark is in net.

Hoping Tampa and Toronto choke big time this season.

Regardless of any criticism of the contract being given, what an absolute gift for Matt Murray. 24 mil for SFA.

That should be said just for the month of October.

I gotta give Florida the edge because they just went to the SCF.

We are probably on the right side of Detroit, agreed.

Top to bottom I think Buffalo is better than we are with better depth but yeah they could get bad goaltending.

So, would it be fair to say that, all things being equal, the Sens were at least as good as Buffalo?
Buffalo was one of the teams least impacted by injuries in the league, while we were one of the most impacted.

Whether that difference explains the 5pts gap is tough to prove, but it's certainly a factor

Buffalo has great forward depth, but even last season losing Samuelsson caused them to go on a massive losing streak, yet we were able to weather injuries to every single good Dman outside of Sanderson.

Our injury situation last year wasn't great, we definitely need better health this year.

You've created a list of the Atlantic teams. Have a read of this article. Written July 19. Who's improved the most. We're 15th and the article was written before Tarasenko signed. You'd think that Tarasenko would bump us up a few spots. Toronto, Tampa, Florida, Boston and Buffalo are all at the bottom of this list.

Idk, we had the big losing streak when Zub got hurt early in the season.

I don’t agree with them about Toronto. I like the moves they made.

Tampa and Boston certainly got worse but it’s a question of degree. They are proven winners with strong coaching and pedigree.

Florida’s IR situation is bad. They are the most likely to fall out of the top 3.

The Atlantic is a jumbled mess this year because you have so many teams that are basically on the same level, at least in my opinion. Hard to pencil us in as definitively better than any of them save Montreal. The proof is in the pudding and this team still needs to show that it can be more than the sum of its parts.

Buffalo has great forward depth, but even last season losing Samuelsson caused them to go on a massive losing streak, yet we were able to weather injuries to every single good Dman outside of Sanderson.

I mean our D injuries hit us pretty hard throughout the year.

Health is going to be a big separator this year.
