Traded Vladimir Tarasenko (1 year, 5 million)

Tank had a rotating casting of centres last year: Thomas, Mika, Trochek, Schenn, Kyrou. I'm curious to see what he can do with consistent time with a better playmaker like Stutzle.

Tarasenko is 31. Likelihood of him having another great season in next 4-5 years is high. Players of his calibre don't just progressively decline after 31.

I remember exact concerns in 2020/2021 season then poof, over PPG leading scorer. Also remember same stuff said of Benn and such. Even Giroux was supposed to get 55+ if "things went right" last year.

Injuries, suspensions and/or cap-shedding roster moves may come, but for right now it's pretty exciting. In back-to-back years they've added veterans who have at times been truly exceptional players to support and guide the young core. That they're no longer at their peak doesn't diminish the impact of their guidance and experience.

Great post. Dorion has done what is needed to be done to field a playoff contending roster.

Rest is on the boys.

Draft reports say he indicated he was willing to come over when asked in interviews and he indicated his contract extended one season after the draft. You've made a narrative about why we didn't draft him, no clue why, but it seems based on misinformation and miss-recollection

2012/13 was the lockout, he played opening night, which was Jan 19th, there were no games in 2012 that season so like many other players he found another league to play in until the lockout resolution.
So he was drafted in 2010, and did not step onto a NHL ice, to play in The NHL until 2013…… pretty much exactly what I said…. And at the time, when the Sens traded the pick, in 2010, “the talk” in local media is that the belief that Tarasenko was not willing to come to North America at the time… was it a bargaining tactic, assuming a strike of lockout was looming, or whatever … the fact is from the time he was drafted until he played in the NHL was almost three years.

I know what I read and heard in the local media at the time, perhaps you don’t…. But IF the draft reports you, or Cannon or Mannix uncovered, why did he not report to the Blues in September of 2010.

I am pretty sure the Sens didn't like drafting Russians back then. Not sure if we just didn't have a presence in Russia or its cause Melnyk is from Ukraine but there was definitely a period of time where we didnt draft russians for whatever reason
Yes that was part of the reasoning, and after drafting Kaigorodov in 2002, and him only playing a handful of games for the Sens a few years later and then bolting for the KHL put them off drafting Russians…. And at the end of the day, not drafting Tarasenko, and eventually ending up with Turris was a good thing for the Sens.

You've moved the goal posts so far they are on another field at this point, if you can't remember what you said a couple posts ago it's no wonder you've misconstrued what happens 13 years ago. Your claim was Tarasenko was committed to play in the KHL for three seasons at the time of the draft, that appears to be false given he said he was willing to come over even for junior in his draft interviews according to the hurricanes amateur scout.

You said wanting someone who they could put in the line much soon and that was their motivation for the trade, again no real evidence supports this, trading for a Dman drafted one year earlier doesn't speak to a desire to get someone in the line quickly.

He signed with the blues Jul 2012 two years after the draft, the lockout is the only reason he played games in the KHL that year, and he was in the blues lineup for opening night, he was one of the more NHL ready prospects that draft and although he was committed for 1 year to the KHL, the list on players drafted mid first that step right in after being drafted is miniscule.

Teams were reluctant with the Russian factor, the lack of a transfer agreement meant they couldn't pull guys under active contracts and the KHL was throwing money at players, but it's a giant leap to say we didn't take him because we wanted someone who could step into the lineup sooner,

Melnyk also bought the sens in 2003 don’t think it’s a coincidence that’s when it started

you're going to have to provide some sort of source, or any evidence other than PIOOMA for me to buy any of this claim that the main reason we didn't draft him had anything to do with wanting someone sooner. Tarasenko only didn't play till Jan 2013 because of the lockout, he came over once the NHL started back up, not after a KHL deal expired.
Whats piooma?

Hmmm. Never heard that one before
I may have sourced it from piooma...

I first heard it from a coworker, he'd be in his mid to late 50s, so probably a bit of an older expression, might be regional, as he was ex military and has lived just about everywhere in Canada, as well as a few places outcan.

Oh I'm quite familiar with the expression, it was the acronym I'd never seen before

I'm in my mid to late 50s and I'd think everyone my age is familiar with the expression

Pidooma’s (d for directly) pretty common amongst my 50-something friends.

Really excited to see how he does. Folks wanted to a dilution of cap spending to round out the roster, and we got it. Kubalik, Korpisalo, and Tank instead of DBC spreads 50ish goal potential over two lines, and shores up the goaltending.

I also just love how we are finally i the mix for good players now. We actually seem to be able to sign some top UFA talent, and we have been able to trade for top young available talent as well.

And we’re a cap team, looking to manage the cap ceiling…

What a time to be a Sens fan, arguing over signing top UFAs lol, arguing about how to get the team cap ceiling compliant…

Hahaha, love it.

I bet the team is once again super stoked at the adds in the off season. Say what you will about Pierre, but he has delivered once again this off season by plugging all of the perceived holes in the roster with some of the very best available talent.

Now back my regular scheduled summer activities :)

Yeah so pumped to see him lineup with stu
30 goals for sure.
Actually prefer him over debrincat.
Kubalik is a nice bonus

Yup it be a nice lineup.
