Going to Massachusetts for the first time ever tonight. Flying into boston, but spending most of our time in Cape Cod. Wanted to try to catch a Sox game, but it didn't really work with our schedule.

We've got some things on our calendar so far, but still have some free time around as well. Any particular restaurants or particular sights anyone would recommend? I want to see a nice lighthouse especially.

No matter where you are staying, try to make a trip to the Outer Cape. The drive is beautiful, and the National Seashore has some of the best beaches and dunes in the world. Past Wellfleet the traffic isn't bad, and the drive thru Truro, where the dunes are on either side of you and the sand blows across the road is stunning. A trip to Provincetown (P-Town) is great, if you don't mind a "colorful" atmosphere.

For lighthouses, there are a bunch. Nauset Light, Chatham Light, and Race Point Light are my personal favorites.

Again, depending on where you stay and what kind of atmosphere you are looking for, Wellfleet is home to one of the best beach bars in the world (Ranked #10 on the Travel Channel). At the top of the 40 foot dunes of Cahoon Hollow (Don't walk on the dunes!! is the cry from the beach), The Beachcomber is in an old Coast Guard Life Saving Station and the food and atmosphere are excellent. Park down the street and take the free shuttle bus back to the beach. The beach is open to the public and has unmatchable views and cold, clear water that can get a little rough. It's one of my favorite places on earth.

We have a day trip planned to P-Town already, lol looking forward to that, I embrace the colorful atmosphere haha. We'll be staying in the Harwich/Chatman area mostly but have some plans to be traveling up and down the cape.

Great, you will be centrally located. Oh and by the way:

Chatham = Chat-Um
Eastham = East-HAM

We New Englanders talk weird.

Awesome time in the city yesterday. Walked the freedom trail and took in a lot of the sights. Went to a CHVRCHES show at Roadrunner too that was damn good. Fun little venue there.

The Bostonia Public House has burgers to fancy, traditional NE fare.

Clarke's has pizza and burgers

There's a Mmmmac and Cheese place people rave about

Too bad my favorite, Durgin-Park closed down. It was a true Boston experience.

Just coming back from P-Town now, awesome experience over there. Very cool vibe! The drive through Wellfleet and Truro were wonderful as you described. We visited the Nauset Lighthouse as well and I really enjoyed it!

We don’t have time for beachcomber tonight so we’re doing that Sunday night. My friend who’s showing us around a bit had actually recommended that before I mentioned your post.

Anyone know a good beer league near Somerville? I just moved to the area, haven't played in a rec league for a few years but looking to get back into it.

Planning a visit in December for the first time. We’re city people. Where would be a very modern hotel in a busy area? $400ish or less per night ideally.

Also where is the best sushi in Boston? Where is the best pizza in Boston?

Heading back from The Beachcomber now after another day at P-Town. Man, that place was incredible as you said! Cahoon Hollow Beach was beautiful(the walk back up, not so much! Haha).

There was about an hour wait for a table so it was a great chance to spend time on the beach relaxing before our meal. Loved the vibe of the restaurant, we sat at a table next to the kitchen and watching then slam out orders was impressive.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. We’re heading home tomorrow evening. Going to squeeze in one more trip to the beach before flying back to Pittsburgh around 6.

Hi guys,

Rivals on the ice but please take it easy on me haha. I heard such good things on Boston and I’m finally visiting September 3.

My friends and I are leaving Montreal Saturday morning to watch the Red Sox against the Rangers (4pm game). We’ll stay at a hotel close to Fenway. We’ll leave Monday morning so Saturday night + Sunday is open.

Any must see places? Good places to eat, pubs etc? I’ve been recommended Quincy Market and Havard campus to begin with.

We’re a bunch of guys between 30-35 years old that love all four major sports for what is worth.

I appreciate all the help!

Quincy Market is ok to stroll through as a tourist but It’s mostly a bunch of overpriced food and stuff places.

Harvard Square area is interesting to stroll through and there are three nice museums on the campus.

For a dinner plan a night in the North End which is Boston’s Italian section. Any place is good but I like Beneventos and Panza. The Daily Catch is good if you like a seafood based meal. For pizza Regina’s is the place to go. And go to one of these pastry shops - Mike’s, Modern Pastry, or Bova.

For a pre game lunch before the Sox game look at Boston Burger Company on Boylston Street or Sweet Cheeks BBQ.

One more pre or post game food suggestion in the Fenway area. El Pelon Taqueria on Peterborough Street, maybe a 10 minute walk from Fenway Park. Some of the best burritos you can get in the area. It’s not fancy with counter service and outside picnic tables so if you want more of a traditional sit down meal then get a burrito there for lunch before the game and then find a dinner spot after.

Durgin Park was amazing. A traditional New England meal never disappointed

Bova! Also, Modern is better than Mike's.

Love Regina's but be prepared to wait depending on when you go.

Agree on Quincy Market. It just isn't the same anymore.

If you go to the market be sure to check out the actual Faneuil Hall where many have given important speeches over the year. As a history nerd, the Hall is incredible.

When I was in college, I was dating a girl from North Carolina. For her first real visit to Boston, I took her to Durgin-Park for dinner. She complained about everything; it was a dump, the wait staff were rude, why do we have to sit with people we don't know, etc., etc.

She ordered the sirloin swiss steak, despite the fact I told her is was ground sirloin, not a steak. I ordered the pot roast. She ended up stealing my pot roast and wolfing it down, I ate the swiss steak. After that, every time anyone visited from North Carolina, we had to take them to Durgin-Park. She even bought a beanpot for her family back home.

Their pot roast was so delicious as were the mashed potatoes. I wish someone would bring it back to life. They got rid of Zuma's too. It was the only reasonable priced place to eat there. The only issue was there was no consistency in their recipes. Some times the meat was too spicy and other times it was pretty plain.

Never had a bad meal at D-P. Plus the staff were hysterical. I once saw a server tell a touristy type that they were all out of Sam Adams, then turn around to the party sitting right next to them (there's that communal seating thing) and ask them if they wanted any more Sam Adams.

Living an 8 minute walk from Fenway Park, there are a bunch of touristy options like the Cask and Flagon, GameOn, etc. But our neighborhood bar, The Corner Tavern, on the corner of Mass Ave and Marlborough Street is one of our favorites. The Old Bay wings are unbelievable and get a side of the pasta salad. It's pesto based and the wings and that are a meal in itself. They have outdoor seating if it's a nice day and usually attract other Sox/visiting fans to talk sports with. The kitchen is also open till 1am if it ends up being a post game option.

About 2 hours from the city now coming from Toronto, going to the Sox vs Jays tomorrow. Any suggestions what to do before the game/what time to get down there?
