Classic rpg fans who dug Chrono Trigger, FFVI, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, etc - it might be worth looking at Chained Echoes. Not a perfect game, but a love letter.

Diablo 3 is an extremely good couples game, fwiw. We had a blast playing through the campaign and can't wait for D4. Very addictive gameplay loop.
If you like the Diablo-style gameplay loop (and lots of people do), it's a fun co-op partially because you can drop in and out as needed without missing much except its ridiculous story. My wife and I played through Diablo 3 and it was probably our least favorite co-op experience we've ever had. In fairness, I somehow didn't know enough about the gameplay loop and how it basically auto-battles for you to know it wasn't my cup of tea until we were already a few hours in. The only thing my wife enjoyed about the game was destroying the pots and such and seeing the gold pop out, which she thought was entertaining in an ironic way.

I was actually meaning to ask if anyone had played this. I can’t play the open world games as they make me nauseous, so
I’ve missed out on a lot of new RPGs. I’m happy they are making some old school ones

So It's been 2 weeks since I got Hogwarts Legacy, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. It's not perfect, by any means (no game truly ever will be), but so far the pros vastly outweigh the cons, in my opinion.

One complaint I do have is one I've seen pop up elsewhere--you're only limited to 20 items of gear at one time. Which is REALLY annoying when you don't realize you're full-up and you enter a quest and you do the side shit and defeat hard enemies to claim that loot only to discover you can't because you're full. You can either sell excess gear or destroy it (for nothing). So instead of getting some gold for them you get nothing. I wonder why they capped it at 20 total items...seems really low to me.

Oh, and as an arachnophobic, I want to thank them for one particular quest in a cave in the f***ing Forbidden Forest, that is chock-full of giant-ass (and at times demonic-looking) spiders. f*** YOU, Avalanche! (the game developer, not the team, although sometimes the team)

This was a major complaint from me as well (especially considering I permanently lost a legendary chest item because of it), but without going into detail I'll just say that as you explore the world there will be a solution to the inventory problem. It was by design, for better or worse.

I'm assuming you have completed the Merlin's trials? I've only played about 4-5 hours so you could be including that increase in bag space in your statement.

I prefer games to have tighter inventory management. Maybe it is growing up playing old Resident Evil games and having to pick and choose what works... but I'd consider that more a pro than a con. This is coming from someone who loved BotW's system with shit breaking all the time.

I have only done 1 Merlin Trial, as part of the main story. Is that how you get more inventory space?

It wouldn't be AS bad if you at least had the option to swap out an item for whatever you might get in a chest. Like give me the option to pick it up or leave it.

So if everyone taking the day off work tomorrow to play Octopath Traveller?

First game was solid, but not to that level.

(I also just work whenever I want... so maybe I just don't have that issue  )

Yes, you need to do two Merlin Trials to increase your gear space. If you go to your challenges I believe you claim it there. And that's just the first level. I believe you can increase it further.

There's a Merlin Trials at the Goblin encampment quest in Lower Hogsfield so yo can just bang out both quickly after you've done the Merlin Trials starter quest near the lake.

Inventory management was oddly satisfying and addicting in RE4. It was almost like a game of Tetris.

As others have said, doing the Merlin trials unlocks 4 inventory slots per tier of that challenge, so a max of 40. And as annoying as it is, whenever you are close to full, make a trip to a merchant to sell excess gear. It's the main way to make gold really.

The gear system was poorly done imo. Until far too late in the game, the gear doesn't matter. Just equip whichever has the best offense or defense stat. The ability to improve gear that has trait or upgrade slots isn't unlocked until the back half of the game at the earliest, and doesn't really change anything. Besides finding new appearances for each gear slot (I do like this feature), all loot you find is just an errand to a merchant.

Also sell everything all the time because you can just change the appearance of any gear to any style you’ve ever owned. Great foresight from the devs for that, at least.

Yes. The only annoying this is every time you upgrade gear, you have to go back in and reset the appearance (they may patch this at some point)
How in the f*** did I not know this? And also, how in the hell do you do this?

Because I'm rocking some ugly-ass gear that I would love to get new appearances for.

Right lol... just hover over each on the main gear screen, it's X for Xbox, takes you in and your unlocked appearances from like challenges are first, then anything you've looted below.

EDIT: so yeah, when I'm getting full, I just equip whatever is best, go sell all else and back to questing I go... the Merlin Trials do help make these trips less frequent, and not having to sacrifice gear if you're halfway through something and full.
