Their problem is that it will ultimately end up benefitting her financially and I mean, so what? Where's the call to boycott every single platform that streams or rents out the HP movies? Or bookstores? It's just an easy target to virtue signal. Do I think JK is a piece of shit? Oh absolutely. But it's not gonna stop me from playing an awesome game that hundreds of devs have poured they hearts and souls into.
Here's my stance on that--will it really benefit her financially? That's not a flippant question, but a serious one. WB already has the license to make anything HP they want, I think they own the license in that regard (everything but book publishing), but I'd have to check that to be sure. I know they at least possess the license currently to make movies, games, etc.

So the question becomes how much, if any, does JK benefit from that license? Probably some, no doubt, but I'd ultimately put it less than what she likely makes from HP book royalties.

So I guess I answered my own question lol. The funny thing is, the Potter books mean so much to the LGBTQ crowd, and the story and its heroes are so easily identifiable to members of that community, that her really f***ed up views are just dumb. Talk about a weird situation of being able/having to separate the art from the artist.

There is pretty much zero way you can send your money to any corporation and not have it feeding something despicable. Corporations are not your friends and any thought that they are is placed there by clever marketing. JK Rowling will make money off the game, but Nike will make money off Vietnamese sweatshops. Bayer grew into a giant company based off Nazi contracts... and now has simply moved on to Monsanto (which is the basis for a lot of food... so you literally can't buy things at a grocery store). You could list about every corporation out there that has ugly things around it. And based on how the world sees things, Rowling's views are likely still the majority world wide (likely not western world, but world as a whole)... you can be sure that the trend fits inside corporate offices around the world too. They are just not vocal about it.

This is admittedly some whataboutism.... and I get the taking a stand and trying, but there is simply zero way to be completely ethical with your spending. This is literally screaming into a hurricane for it to stop. Life is way too short to be angry at everything, find what makes you happy... if it is a dumb game about learning to be a wizard, buy it, enjoy it, and try to find some peace in this mess we call life. If you can't find enjoyment out of it, don't try to stop other people from having their enjoyment because someone connected to it is a dinosaur.

On the video game topic and relating to the Harry Potter game... what happened at Limited Run Games was utterly despicable. That was cancel culture at its absolute worst. Viciously attacking a normal person for a tweet and who they follow to try to destroy their lives.

Yup. Don't buy anything even remotely German ever again if this specific connection bothers you. Which is also why it shouldn't, but with how separated the current cultural rhetoric around Nazism is from any kind of historical context, you know it does.

For all the nerds (I say that lovingly as I'm one too!) who really follow this stuff, how good is Starfield expected to be? I see stuff here and there on social media and there's quite a bit of hype but haven't read too much into it myself. Is this truly going to be a can't miss? Something that I should buy an Xbox for? So far I've been content with my PS4 while waiting for something to make me get a PS5.

The hype is a bit much for me, but I think Starfield has a real chance to be great. Even at a low end expectation of typical Bethesda/Fallout 4 (meaning interesting and fun but buggy) in space sort of RPG it should be a blast. Now if they can get Fallout 3 NV in space, they'll have a game of the generation on their hands.

Also I take back my comment about HiFi Rush's combat... it is deep and utterly fantastic. This is the best new game I've played since Elden Ring... and it is definitely more enjoyable than that game. I gotta wait until I complete it and go for another playthrough... but this is one of the best games in recent years. Everything is utterly perfect... zero surprise given how many ex Platinum/Clover employees worked on it. It like the best mixture of Sunset Overdrive (super underrated game BTW) and Bayonetta.

StarCraft was my life for a long while back in the day. I was kind of a weirdo though. I didn't play the normal game too much, but I loved the UMS(use map settings) playlist and played all the weird RPGs and unit spawning battle games. I remember I loved playing the DBZ and Hands of Chaos RPG on that playlist.
UMS was my ish too. I remember hero arena, mini games, risk, etc. so many good memories

I adored SC when it first came out, but man I could not keep up. f*** the Zerg rush.

Well it's Bethesda's biggest new IP since Fallout, so there's a reasonable amount of hype around the game. Personally I was more excited by the idea of the game than what they've actually shown in gameplay, at least so far. The gameplay reveal just looked generic and uninspired to me, but that was a very small sample. Hopefully going in with lower expectations will make the experience that much better if the game does end up being great.

Zelda 2 is a choice
Not in my favorite 20 games of all time, but far and away my favorite NES game. I know it has the reputation of being the black sheep of the franchise in the US, but I love the feeling of adventure, I love the game feel of Link (very momentum-based, similar in this aspect to N++ which is the most obscure game in my top 10), and I think it has the best combat of any game from its era. Soundtrack full of bangers as well.

I would give my left testicle for a friend who lives near me that can hack the crazy difficulty level of N++ for co-op.

It pains me to see all the solo levels completed on my profile tab but the co-op levels basically barren except for the early introductory ones.

Golf Story.
I f***ing loved Golf Story. Seeing my friend play it, is was what pushed me over the edge for getting a switch, since I had already beat Breath of the Wild on the WiiU.

Really too bad about it's sequel though. Hopefully after some patches it's a good game.
