Until Dawn is basically a choose your own adventure slasher movie. Can be tons of fun and replayable. Actually quite a bit of fun to play as a group.
I can attest to the fun of playing this in co-op or as a group. My significant other and I regularly play this type of "narrative choices" game, and this one really shines because it leans into its campiness and slasher / high school movie stereotypes.

Our absolute favorite narrative choices game though is "The Wolf Among Us."

I got like 1/4, is that good?

How is one of the ones you haven't played Counter Strike? The only thing we had to do to check that one was go to middle school.
I didn't really touch PC gaming outside of Doom, Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem, StarCraft, WarCraft, Diablo and Baldur's Gate until later in life.

Neither have I, really. Not a fan. Mostly Civilization. Some Roller Coaster Tycoon and The Sims. Eastside Hockey Manager. And the excellent SWAT 4.

Hogwarts Legacy reviews starting to come out, and it looks like it's getting pretty good ones.

I'm still excited for it, am buying it, will play it, and will still be supporting the trans community. As already mentioned in this thread, Rowling already has her money from licensing the series in general. And yes, while she'll inevitably make money from this game, as Hench pointed out (and The Good Place also pointed out), our world as it is right now, it is very difficult to not be financially supporting some sort of corporation that has evil & shitheaded viewpoints.

Yep, love to see it. The hate for this game was so comically short-sighted. Can't wait to play
TBH I can understand the guilt that some are feeling.

For so many people, of all walks of life, the HP series just represented something better than this world. The idea that no matter who you are, your class in life, who you love, etc.; the idea that no matter all of that bullshit, YOU belong, YOU are worthy, etc. It's such a pure/good story, and to be undone by someone who's showing themselves to be sort of the antithesis of all of that is very hard.

But...what can you do, really? If you support the causes that Rowling rallies against, then you can still support them and love the series for what it is, in my opinion at least. You can still rail against her shitty viewpoints while upholding the values that were within those books and within that world.

I can't, to be honest. The controversy just feels so selfish...like people recognizing an easy target so they pounce on it to feel better about themselves. Where's the call to boycott all of the outlets that sell HP books, movies and merch?

My boiling point was reached once various virtue signalers started taking gameplay clips out of context to pile on and make the game look worse than it is on socials. It's being conveniently ignored that Avalanche employs dozens of LGBTQ+ developers, only for them to see their work be dragged through the mud. They're the ones being forgotten in this discourse and I feel for them the most. They get enough hate in their daily lives to have even more mud slung their way by so-called "allies." I can't imagine what they're feeling right now. And not only that, but the only ones who will face the consequences of a boycott won't be JK. It will be them and the rest of the dev team.

I'm probably a cold person here, but I really don't get it at all. It is a game about being a wizard. If the wizard was going around beating up trans people and developing a manifesto, then by all means hate away. But it is just a game. There is just so much vitriol and hate for anything. And I mean anything. Just take the controversy over Mr Beast paying for surgeries to help blind people. I'm not a fan of the dude or his clickbait stuff, but he literally did a great thing and people find a way to hate. People need to get outside more.

I don't disagree w/ any of this. I'm talking more about the guilt that an HP fan may feel if they truly support the inclusiveness that the series in general always espoused. If they live their life in that way, it can be tough to look past what Rowling has sort of become (or perhaps has just revealed herself to be).

Since she has no direct involvement in the game, it IS the developers that will face the most consequences of any sort of boycott, you are right about that.

What is kinda crazy to me is growing up, banning books and ideological repression was a terrible thing. One of the greatest books of the last century Fahrenheit 451 is basically that plotline. Yet... here we are trying to do just that.

Well sometimes properties grow larger than their creators and I certainly feel as though that's the case for the world of HP. If I encountered anyone who felt that level of guilt I'd implore them to simply take it back for themselves. There's nothing stopping them from maintaing that their own vision of the Wizarding World be as inclusive as they see fit...and that's honestly the best thing any HP fan can do to take it back from JK. Sadly this whole discourse has done nothing but signal boost her and her shitty views.

I love all of the Dark Pictures Anthology games, but I haven't played The Devil In Me yet. House of Ashes was the best of the first three games in my opinion.

The Quarry (same developer but more mainstream) was really good, with an A-List cast. I had to replay the last 20 minutes twice because I got a dramatically different ending due to screwing up a quick time event at the very end of the game. :madfire:

Reminds me of when my gf and I played Until Dawn for the first time. She had fun watching and helping me make the occasional decision. We managed to make it to the very last scene of the game with only one dead, until I had her make a split-second decision that ended up killing just about everyone lol. That's one experience I won't soon forget.

I see some people simply haven't played Shenmue enough.

Agreed on all accounts. Just play the f***ing game and have fun. Life is too short to bitch about everything. It is in the same vein of all the PC BS we deal with now. Sure, a lot of it is fair, but we have taken things to an unhealthy level.
