OT: Video Game Talk (oh, also the Week before the All-Star Break Pre-Game Talk "archive")

Because as the title suggest I assume new posts will be related to the games that were just played last week or the All-Star break/weekend. Silly me.


I do sometimes but I don't make somebody else watch me if they are not interested. That's the way this thread feels to me now.

What am I missing w/ the controversy around Hogwarts Legacy? If it's about JK Rowling, my understanding was that she pretty much was non-existent in the making of the game. And while she is--for whatever reason--on the weirdest ass mission to torpedo her goodwill & reputation in the HP community, I still enjoy the HP series for what they are, and I am also looking forward to the game.

The extremes of cancel culture think all of the things related to any person they think should be canceled needs to be exterminated.

It really is unfortunate what's happening with 343. It seems like the engine for infinite is just too hard to develop for. There should be no reason It's taking this long to add new content for infinite's multiplayer. It's crazy they haven't even added a single new gun yet. They haven't even added the gun that we're available in the beta and that are highly requested into MP. Switching to Unreal should do wonders for putting out new content for Halo 7. Every dev seems to agree that dropping assets and creating on the newest version of Unreal is incredibly easy.

I could never make a list like that. Between Halo, Ocarina of time and Metal Gear Solid 3 I would have a different answer depending on what mood I'm in.

Infinite's single player was great! But the MP really dropped the ball. They had all they hype in the world, but it shouldn't take THAT long to add new maps, modes and weapons. So I don't think they need a reboot. I bet switching to Unreal will help immensely.

I switched to primarily PC for gaming back in 2010 and have been that way ever since. Only keep the Playstation for exclusives/NHL. I'm happy with the new PS5 controller but the Xbox Elite 2 controller is still better. Have a SteamDeck as well but I've probably only used it like 3 times since I got it which was like 6-months ago. I don't like it much to be honest.

I never played the earthbound/mother series. I keep meaning to boot it up (I actually own the SNES cartridge) but back then I was too into Super Mario Bros, Street fighter 2, Kirby, a link to the past and Smart ball.

I've put hundreds of hours in Persona 4 and 5. Love those games. I wanna play Persona 3, but they only seem to ever update the mobile version for some reason.

I find it kind of lame that it only plays some Steam games natively.

I ended up switching my gaming machine to run linux after getting the Steam Deck showing that it can run all the games I enjoy with Proton. Honestly runs the catalog I play better for me than Windows ever did.

The only game that doesn't run great for me on the Deck has been Ghost Recon Breakpoint, but apparently that's because I have the Ubisoft Connect version. From what I've seen the Steam version works okay. But I'm not going to buy it again when Wildlands was better and that runs fine.

But I know most people play more MP games than I do, so fighting DRM can be a pain depending on what it is...

As I expressed in the series thread, if you don't like Pokemon I am not sure if you'd like this game. Very similar game mechanics even if this game has a lot more to it besides just walking around as you do in Pokemon.

The longest tutorial I think I've ever played in any game, pretty sure that @sethro109 can relate to this as well lol.

First off, I'm primarily a PC gamer and would rather just play on the PC for most things (games run way better, look way better). Second, I don't travel nearly enough to take advantage of a handheld and even if I did, good luck with getting any significant battery life out of the thing. Also yeah, there's a ton of games that just won't run on it (mostly games that are on Steam but also require another launcher.

P5R is in my top 3 games ever along with KOTOR 1 and some other game I would have to do a deep dive on...maybe Halo 2 or RDRII or ME2 or something else I am not remembering. I don't necessarily recommend using a guide for your first playthrough, doing what you want makes the experience much more enjoyable. However, I highly recommend knowing certain features before playing. You can be caught as a deer in the headlights if you've never played a Persona game before.

E: There are a ton of "things you need to know before you play Person 5" articles out there.

1 - Yeah it's JK Rowling's IP (even though I don't believe she's involved in the game at all). Some people can't separate the art from the artist.
2 - Apparently, I haven't read the actual plot of the game just what I've heard, Goblins are written very stereotypically Jewish. And in Hogwarts Legacy the main villain is this horrible greedy, child murdering, goblin. So therefore the game devs clearly hate Jewish people.

Goblins are just inherently greedy and love their gold/treasures, similarly to Dwarves in LoTR universe. If anyone wants to draw comparisons to Jews, that’s on them
