What Armstrong has accomplished is impressive. He managed to take all his expiring UFA's he didn't intend to re-sign and convert them into futures. Normally as a seller you end up missing out on a trade and getting stuck with an expiring asset or two but he cleaned house very effectively. Unpleasant part of GM work but the Blues are now set up well in terms of draft capital and potential long term solutions.

Really like picking up Dean, organizational depth at center behind Thomas and Alexandrov was light so this helps.

Yeah that's not happening barely ppg in the Q in his draft+2 season getting outscored by a 18 year old defenceman on his own team. Smart move by Vegas to trade a prospect that isn't trending well and get value. More team should do this instead a holding on to them til they have no value.

I'm not THAT pessimistic... But yeah, Dean is, at best, the 3rd best NHL prospect on his junior team (which is actually my local junior team), and the two players that are cleary ahead of him (Luneau and Kidney) aren't even total locks to establish themselves as NHL'ers either.

The guy is 20 years old and barely a point and game player in the junior league. Bad trade for St.louis
He’s got 1.3ppg….

Jesus some people have no clue what they’re talking about.

He's producing way less than his teammate Riley Kidney, who was picked in the 2nd round of the same draft, who most Habs fans don't even view as an NHL level prospect
Kidney isn’t close to as good a prospect as Dean with regards to an NHL future.

Dean is the most NHL transferable player on the Olympiques roster, by a sizeable margin.

If you think Kidney is a better NHL prospect than Dean, I have no clue what to tell you.

The guy who has played 15 more games has 14 more points? Well that is Shocking.

Also he has 38 games played and 49 points. 49 P÷38 GP=1.289 PPG%. Little bit better than barely over a point per game.

This is a solid trade for the Blues. Dean is a good prospect. Surprised he wasn't part of the Knights offer for Meier

Plus the Q is different now. The thermostat has been adjusted.

Dean's numbers have stayed pretty much the same through 4 years in the QMJHL. That's a tell-tale sign that he will likely top out as a good AHLer. Vegas wins this one.

Points per game went from .80, .87, 1.11, to 1.29. Goals per game went from .32, .43, .45, to .63. There’s a clear trajectory here. It’s not amazing stats by any means, but it sure isn’t stagnant either.

He a defenceman and a year younger. This is b prospect at best and isn't trending very well. Show me a player that was under 1.3 ppg in their draft+2 season in the Q that turned into a top six which the person I replied to stated let alone NHL regular (very few have). You can't Nicolas Roy is the closest comparable I could find looking back to 2015 and he outscored him in his draft+2 year. Maybe he is a outlier but that is a hell of a gamble. Almost every forward drafted in the first 3 round has outscored Dean in draft+2. But you know he has intangibles.

Not sure I understand Vegas here, trading away quite a good youth player who plays centre for a rental is absurd. Great pick up by the Blues.

Wasn’t there a thread that said a 1st and a 2nd…I guess it is more of an or….late 1st or early 2nd. I don’t know enough on the prospect beyond where drafted to evaluate that.

Teams do this when they want to win the cup.

As though Dean is an offensive only prospect. He’s not going to be in the NHL as a scorer. He’s a very good energy player, who can play in defensive and offensive situations depending on the need.

The guy plays the shutdown role with Cormier and Savoie. Great PKer. Great forechecker. Relentless motor. Can pass, shoot and keep up with talented players.

He’s a player that NHL teams love, even if he isn’t going to be a top line player or 50 point player. That is worth much more to NHL teams than a 100+ point player that’s going to struggle to transition to an offensive only role in the NHL.

A very good bet to be a 500+ game, 15-35 point guy with special team play on your energy line. Players of his ilk find their way into rosters.
