Vegas plays on Hall of Fame mode while everyone else plays at Pro. Not only will they do this, they will probably get a better return than this if it turns out they can't keep him when the cap counts again.
well that explains how they managed to get SJS to include 2 3rd round picks in addition to Hertl in this trade. Since I would have thought Hertl at 6.75 M AAV would have been worth the equivalent to 2 1sts by himself.

Goddamit Grier, trading one of my fav players to my most hated team. And we only get a late first and a kid whose ceiling is probably third round center.

IMO - good on Grier for getting Hertl to a contender and getting some assets back. Retention for that long is going to suck - but it's 100% the right move for the Sharks.

Valuewise you don't love SJ throwing in a pair of 3rds, but ultimately getting out of Hertl's contract & getting the two 1sts is a positive move for the organization.

SJ's just in a tough spot, they are going to be bad for awhile.

If your an SJ fan I think you just want to see a clear path out of this tunnel, and not become the next Buffalo.

He misses an average of 20 games a season, and that was in his 20's. How many games will he miss a year for the next 6 seasons in his 30's after tearing both ACL's and having another knee surgery this season?

Oh noo... they might have to

LTIR him. The horror

This all started with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015.

And when they did it, the GM brought it up to the table at their next annual meeting in Boca Raton.

The league ruled that the loophole was legal and that they were not going to close it.

End of story.

Can’t blame Tampa Bay, Vegas or any other teams moving forward.
Pretty sure the Canucks did it in 2011, activating a couple guys around the start of the playoffs. If I remember correctly, their D corps was very pricey when all healthy. (Of course, they were all injured as hell/absent by the time the SCF happened, but that’s a different story.)

I hope they have good fans. SJ IS the new Buffalo. Itll be over a decade before they get out of this

I mean... these players are legitimately injured. It's just funny how they seem to magically recover for the playoffs.
Mark Stone is a beast, even coming back to play injured, he averaged over a PPG (and 0.5 goals per game) over the entire playoffs last year, better than his regular season scoring before he went on LTIR! His first series again WPG, he had 8 points in 5 games!!! He actually plays better when he's injured, compared to when he's healthy! I heard he intentionally threw out his back in the pre-game warmup before the final game, which helped him score a hat trick!

Miraculous recoveries? Give me a break.

Stone has a lacerated spleen and Hertl just had knee surgery.

They aren't faking injuries here. If they play in game 1 they'll almost certainly be playing injured or not at 100%.
Did you see this lacerated spleen with your own eyes ? Yes or no

Wtf I don't understand many things

#1 How can Vegas afford that considering their other trades and the fact SJ won't retain on a 6 year contrat
#2 Why would Vegas want Hertl for so long?
Has this trade gone through registries yet ?

The only problem I have with this deal for the sharks is the retention it was foolish. Although considering the length of his contract I feel San Jose did well as this opens up a lot of potential options in the long term future.

It could be a decade for sure, but Buffalo is on their 2nd rebuild (atleast). SJ hasn't even put their first core together yet.

I guess the big advantage Buffalo had is they were able to move their core players, and had more younger-ish players. SJ had so much deadweight & no prospects, hard to replenish the pool quickly.

Vegas has basically one draft pick left over the next three years and Brendan Brisson. I get doing what they're doing but I just hope the fans stick around when things get ugly. I can see first hand with SJ how difficult it is staying attentive during the down times.
Until next year, when we trade Mark Stone for 25 1sts as other GM's rush to take advantage of his injury proneness. :sarcasm::laugh::laugh::laugh:
