Biggest loser today. The Oilers. Drai is going to bounce this summer after another run that ends before even reaching round 3.

Time to find a club that will be able to compete and pay him as the top paid guy in the NHL... at least until McDavid signs his extension with Toronto.
How is Drai gonna bounce? He has another year on his contract.

Uh. Ok. Sure. Enjoy it. For now, is all I’m saying. Tell me Knights fans aren’t going to care in four years when they are bottom feeders.
That only happens if they get their contacts wrong. Vegas has a roster full of players that can get them back futures if need be. They have also proven to trade popular players to shake things up. So far it has been very successful and kudos to Vegas for having the guts to make moves like this.

Because the Oilers will trade him when his value is maxed out... this summer. That's not a guy you keep as a self rental.

He'll let them know he's not going to resign so they'll painfully move on. Restart those Zegras ++ rumors once Vegas bounces the Oilers in round 1.

They're still reaping the benefits of a advantageous expansion draft that brought in a boatload of additional picks. It's easy to score when you're immediately put on third base.
Keep telling yourself that.

The rules weren't in their favour. They were offered table scraps but they were extremely proactive, making 17 trades in June and July 2017 and outsmarted several GMs like Bob Murray and Dale Talon. It was amateur hour for some of those GMs, who had an easy job, but failed.

Full credit goes to Vegas for the way they initially built their team.

if this is the deal

we have seen the 30th pick traded for a late 2nd and a 3rd--how can the nhl allow this

Bob Murray had a plethora of D-men the team developed and were coming off one of the best seasons in Anaheim's history. What else should he have done??

Uggh, it's not even that Vegas is exploiting the salary cap loophole but that every team they trade with just seems to give away their players to them at below market value.

Opposing GM's secretary: "Sir, there's a Kelly McCrimmon on line 1 for you."

Opposing GM: "Oh, well, I guess that's it. Cancel my 3 o'clock, Susan, and bring me a full tube of KY."

Seriously.

Drai is going to get ~$14MM per year is my guess so it's gotta be someone with cap space or Bettman's favorite team, which doesn't need to be cap compliant like the rest of them.

But when the Oilers go out in round 1 to these Nites of Vegas... the chance Drai resigns in Edmonton this summer drops to 0%.

Retaining on a 6 year deal is asinine. The Sharks are a horrible franchise.
But Greer got a late 1st round pick for 6 years of retention on his 1 C.

Can Greer do basic math? Asking for a friend.
